Windows7 with Windows XP to run earlier versions of the partitioning software

I would like to partition my windows7 notebook pc with xp to run earlier versions of the software.  My laptop is the Pavilion dv7-4177nr... someone has any ideas on how to do it without pain? (I'm a novice user with some smarts but rather)...

There is no painless way to do it, especially on this model. It is possible but takes a lot of work and struggle. It might be a better option to use Anytime Upgrade in the Start Menu to go to 7 Pro or Ultimate. Then, you can download and use the free XP Mode that MS makes available.
