Windows8 pro upgrade

Still do not see the cd/dvd drive after Upgrade to windows8 pro, any other ideas?

The drive is visible in your Bios?  If there is perhaps not a hardware fault, perhaps an eventual disconnected wire etc. ?

If you wait a few weeks Windows Update 8.1 will be available on the Store, and this update might solve your problem, if it is not hardware related.

You could try to go back to Windows 7, or whatever you upgraded.

Most of the new machines come with a recovery partition, allowing you to return your purchase, you will need to check your user guides (or the manufacturer's Web Site) for instructions.  Choose this path requires you to save all the data first.

You can then retry the upgrade if you can see the CD/DVD drive in Windows 7.

My solution was simple - I was really taking the wrong approach. I wanted to spend 8 Win Home Premium to Win 8 Pro and I was using the Windows 8 Pro pack which includes the 32-bit versions and 64-bit disk. They are intended for upgrading from a previous version of Windows to people. I need to take a different approach and "add features to Windows 8", which does not require a disc, as all features are already in 8 Win Home premium, they just need to be unlocked. All's well that ends well, as they say!

  • Accidentally deleted Windows 98 when trying to reinstall XP Pro upgrade.

I wanted just a fresh reinstall of XP Pro, so please help me with my specific problem if you can.  I was using my version of XP Pro to re-intall upgrade.  Instructions for reinstalling confused me and I inadvertently selected an option that has removed the original 98 OS during installation process.  Given that my copy of XP Pro, is to install an upgrade not a complete new OS, I can't proceed because my 98 files are gone: (...) (but perhaps not fatal?)  I stopped the process as soon as I realized that the option I chose was probably not the right, but it seems that it was too late.  Using my XP Pro upgrade cd installation could not proceed when I tried again because the original 98 OS files are now missing. :(

I got this computer set up with a legitimate 98 and XP Pro upgrade for several years.  I can't find my original of 98 (I can't find it in stock and gives me an injury so I can't dig for it, also, it could be anywhere).  So the problem is this: I need to restore my 98 operation system somehow somehow (without my cd), so I can use my XP Pro updated to get back to where I was, a work computer XP Pro.  That's all.

Is it possible to do, either by MS support (I was registered through Windows Genuine Advantage or just what it's called so I guess they can check that my BONES were and are indeed legitimate) or can they help me with another installation of 98 so I can re - install usimg my upgrade back to XP Pro? Or another solution? Somehow to restore the deleted files? Please note: I can not afford to buy anything right now, I am out of work right now, so thank you very much in advance for any suggestions and the reasons to buy Windows 7 or buy something else, but these solutions are NOT viable for me right now, but thank you again if you were going to think that.  What I really need help's suggestions as to what can be done to help me get my current system facing up and running using what I have on the spot.

I appreciate sincerely any help you can offer!

  • How can I use my HP OEM W98 cd "System Recovery" on a new processor & hardrive (not HP) so that I can have W98 to use my most later bought XP Pro upgrade cd?

I bought a HP with W98 OEM desktop computer installed about 10 years ago. Then about 5 years ago my company offers an XP Pro upgrade for a good price. When I upgraded, first of all, I reformatted the drive, but then XP would be not be installed because it could not find existing W98.  So I reinstalled W98 using the HP cd "HP System Recovery" & "HP Application Recovery", then with the XP Pro upgrade.  Question: I want to build a new computer for faster components (case, CPU, motherboard, hard drive) 10 years old HP processor is suffocating under the weight of applications & today virus scanners.  On a new cpu & hard drive, I can use the "HP System Recovery' (&"Application recovery"if necessary) to repeat the process to get W98 installation so that I can then proceed to Windows XP Pro?  Or is the only "HP System Recovery" will install on a card mother HP and W98 vintage cpu?  I just can't justify rebuying the entire operating system again and I like XP Pro, but I need new hardware CPU and more/more fast disk drive.

    Hi BuyOnceUpgradeOften,

Thanks for posting. As you said, you will need to install the 98 upgrade for XP. As for the installation of 98 on another machine, it may or may not work. You will need to contact HP and see if this is or is not against the terms of the EULA, they you provided, and if you can or can not install it on another machine.

  • Can I use my Win 7 Pro Upgrade to upgrade my laptop running Win 7 Home?

I bought the Windows 7 Pro upgrade before realizing that I had bought the wrong upgrade to what I had on my computer. I ended up having to buy a Win 7 Home, then update to Win 7 Ultimate, so I could keep all my programs in tact. Now, I'm about to get a laptop. If the laptop has Windows 7 Home installed, can I use my Win 7 Pro upgrade for the version of Win 7 Home upgrade? If not, what version on the laptop do I need if I can use my already purchased Win 7 Pro Upgrade? There is no other computer autour who can't use my upgrade, it seems, because I ordered the version of 64-bit operating system, so I guess that laptop must have an operating system 64-bit as well.

Anytime Upgrade using year already bought Retail Pro/Ultimate key

In Windows 7 Home Premium, type Anytime Upgrade in search programs and files box on the start menu, and then click the Windows Anytime Upgrade.  From there, you can enter your product key of Windows 7 Professional/ultimate retail and perform a simple upgrade. All programs and files will remain on the computer, there is no drive necessary and it takes about 10 minutes.

  • Windows 7 Pro upgrade for reuse

My last computer was shipped with Vista Home Premium. I bought Windows 7 Pro update for this computer. The death of this machine, I bought another HP with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. I reused my disc of Windows 7 Pro upgrade successfully. I have Windows 7 recovery discs that were created before the installation of Windows 7 Pro upgrade. Now, I pre-ordered Windows 8 Pro. When it happens, I would use my Windows 7 recovery discs (Home Premium) to bring the machine to its original state, and then install Windows 8 Pro Upgrade. Then I would use the disc of Windows 7 Pro upgrade to upgrade to another computer that is running Windows 7 Home Premium. Will there be problems reusing this disc again?

    Hi flnettles,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community.

If it is a full license or upgrade retail - Yes. You can move it to another computer as long as it is installed on a single computer at a time (and if it's a Windows 7 Upgrade version the new computer must have its own XP/Vista license qualification). The previous installation of Windows 7 on the old computer must be in the format / deleted. You will have to perhaps call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete activation. Turning it on the second computer will automatically be in effect 'disable' the license for the first computer. The key works with 32 and 64 bit, but can only be installed at a time.

If it is licensed OEM - No.
OEM licenses, including Windows preinstalled on a computer before purchase and Windows purchased separately, are related to the first computer, they are installed on and cannot be transferred to another computer. To install Windows on another computer, you will need to buy another copy.

Call Microsoft use the manual phone Activation

If you have trouble activating Windows 7 you can call Microsoft to activate it by following these steps:
    1. with the operation of Windows, click Start, then in the search box type: slui.exe 4
    2. press enter on your keyboard
    3. Select your country.
    4. Select the telephone activation option, then dial the given number and hold for a real person.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.
