WMP 11 - if it's not broken why fix it?

Dear all,

Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but I mostly use my computer to listen to music and was OK when I was using WMP 11 on my old Vista laptop. It's dead, so I've upgraded to a PC with Windows 7 and WMP 12.
The problem is I find it difficult to edit new music, and worse yet, he seems to have removed from a lot of old songs that I know were there before.
They are always there if I go into properties and look at the external hard drive, but aside from the title of the song, the rest of the info (artist, Album, Genre etc title) has been deleted.
I long for the simple life and would appreciate any help.
Yours sincerely

PS - I think I'd be very happy to return to version 11, is this possible?

Open WMP12 > tools > advanced > restore media library... Restore deleted items from library...
