XOOM Wi - Fi connections

All,

I looked around the site and have not found a real answer to this question.

I don't want to buy the 3G version of the XOOM and get linked to a contract.  Can I connect a USB network adapter to the XOOM, if I'm not in a Wi - Fi connection box?

Also, there is a lot of discussion on the connection of a hard disk, some say Yes and some say no.  Can do you and how easy is it to end, I guess you have to the root of the XOOM, which I have absolutely NO IDEA how do.

Thanks for all the help.  I'm really trying to decide which one to buy, I know with certainty that I DO NOT want to fall into the hole of the Ipad.

I don't know any way to connect to the xoom to do, but there is a Zoom modem for 70.00 to staples that allows you to plug in your USB dongle and use.

It does not work as I bought it 2 weeks ago.

  • XOOM McDonalds WiFi connection problems

I could not connect to the WiFi at McDonalds because you can't see the final screen where you OK connection. When you go through the process, you click on 'Connect' and then you go to another screen you OK but it does not show on the XOOM. What you get is a pop-up message from the browser and not McD that says you must press the Ok button, problem is I can't understand how to display that. Just OK'ing the message does not work.

If you call technical support and ask them to manually connect, it works fine. Depending on the type of tech support the Xoom comes as an Android device, and he managed to connect manually. It seemed that it was a management problem of the popup with the browser.

  • Camera Connection Kit for Xoom

    Well, Noob question here!

I just bought the new camera for my 32 GB 4G Xoom connection kit. I have a Samsung WB210, but can't seem to get it to upload photos on the Xoom. Isn't this possible? It only serves to put pics on the Xoom from a computer? Please help and be nice.

It is not hopeless! I had the same experience and was very disappointed when the Xoom has not responded to the connection of the camera. Then I noticed that a menu jumped on my camera (Panasonic Lumix) who offered me a choice of using USB or "Pictbridge" When I chose the latter, everything worked perfectly and import took but a click. Other cameras may offer slightly different choices, same "printer." Try them all and if your device is quite modern, it should have the capacity you need.

  • What is the best way to connect the Xoom to a desktop monitor?

I would like to power mirror my screen xoom on a desktop monitor for presentations by small group to the site.  I've seen some of the threads on hdmi to vga, hdmi/DVI and hdmi to hdmi, but I'm a little confused as to what is easier.  It seems that if you go with hdmi to vga you will need some type of converter, not just a cable?  If it was just a cable that would be perfect.  In addition, another option would be to hdmi for display port (published in December 2010), has anyone tried this? Thank you!

    @uberpixels,

I think the easiest way is using a HDMI output on the Xoom to an HDMI-> DVI Cable. or HDMI-> VGA Cable. I use an adapter at right angles (adjusted to avoid breaking), HDMI port which offers a complete female HDMI.

Here's the thread on this adapter:

    https://supportforums.Motorola.com/message/401234#401234

Then, connect a HDMI-> DVI Cable for the monitor. If you want to copy to VGA, you may need to add the + 5V using the applicator of tension mentioned in this thread:

    https://supportforums.Motorola.com/message/414527?TSTART=0#414527

I have a portable DLP I use with the Xoom and choose to use a small HDMI-> VGA Converter that meets my needs. Here's a thread on this configuration:

    Greetings ejb426,

Like drago mentioned, there are file BT and WiFi, sharing applications on the market, but they don't allow you to share an Internet connection. You need to attach or a WiFi area reactive on the device of source of data (your Razr phone in this case) to enable connection sharing. In fact, I have a Razr phone Droid myself (provided by my company) and three tablets, including the Xoom FE. Since my company has their own data plan, they allowed the reactive capacity of Droid Razr so I can connect the Xoom FE when I use it for business purposes (for example presentations customer, site travel sellers, etc..). It's the only legitimate (and legal) way to share the data between devices phone plan.

Please note the rules and political positions that bypass the agreements (e.g. sharing data from your phone without having to pay for the option).

  • Nikkon DSLR connectivity

Forgive my poor explanation technical but just enter this world of tablets and love it. Is it possible to connect a DSLR camera Nikkon with mini USB connection 5 PINs directly to my Xoom that has a Micro USB connection 4 pins and if the Xoom will recognize the camera and I want to download pictures. If technically possible any idea where I can buy a mini microphone usb cable or an adapter. Eager to take the Xoom on the next trip abroad and use it as support for camera.

    Welcome Ralphg,

Yes, you can connect your DSLR camera to the Xoom whenever two things are true; your device supports PTP connections (most newer digital cameras do, but check your owner's manual or web site of Nikon to confirm) and you use a USB OTG host for the connection cable. You can get the OTG directly from Motorola cable on the following site:

    Brand cable Motorola OTG

Or a third-party compatible cable part here:

    Amazon OTG Compatible cable

When you connect a DSLR with PTP support using this cable, the Xoom will load automatically your images in the Gallery of the Xoom.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

  • Xoom does support ActiveSync and ESP?

I'm assuming that the Xoom will support ActiveSync for manual users said that it syncs with Exchange 2007, however, anyoen knows if she supports the ESP? It is a requirement of my corporate security policy.

    I wouldn't think that immediately.

the last phone motorcycle all use motoblur to crochet for exchange active sync. MOTOBLUR has additional security features that Vanilla android 2.x does NOT.

So unless google has put several security 3.x vanilla EAS features it may or may not work-function server settings (for example what security policies the organization applies).

Some exchange servers are large open and will pretty much do anything to connect. Others are more like fort knox and require the device to be able to do all sorts of things.

Touchdown are available in the market - and I guess that it works on the xoom. It is a REPLACEMENT for the EAS built in support which has some of the additional security features THAT may require an exchange server.

Can someone help me on this? Internet connection of XOOM should work on the Wi - FI mode.

    Thank you.

After the update to ICS fron Honycomb, the Xoom does not have WiFi connectivity. He was strong on the day. Now I see connected, connected, dropped, linking in continuous models. My phone Droid 4 is strong signal. This Cisco WAP has great ability and is B/G/N. The Xoom is 30 feet of the access point antenna.

I use given Verizon now where in the past it was all WiFI.

Any thoughts on why this lack of solid connectivity?

  • about xoom update

people question that xoom now through their phones, and mobile hotspot has not activate their xoom by verizon are going to receive this new update?

Yes, you don't need to have a wireless plan. A WiFi connection (anywhere) will work. They organize the updates into groups, so your Xoom will let you know when the update is available for your device. The Xoom will automatically check when a WiFi connection is available.

  • Xoom slow and unresponsive liked (except fingerprints)

My plan is to use for the Xoom is relatively casual surfing while sitting on the couch. I expect to an experience free of pain. I was looking for, just for a restaurant on OpenTable reservation for tonight and throughout the experience was terrible. I use the full web version of the site not the mobile version. My Xoom is connected by a strong WiFi signal (-60dBm) with internet connection DSL 5 Mbps. It is not the internet connection, it is not the WiFi. Something wicked comes with Android Honeycomb because the browser is painfully slow.

I try to scroll to the bottom of the page and all I get are commonly the fingerprints on the screen. I click on a checkbox once, twice, three times, and perhaps eventually a checkmark... In the end, I gave up and I went back to my laptop.

I checked the memory usage: the browser uses 107MB of the 250 MB used. There are 250 MB of free space. What the hell is happening? Something is consuming a lot of calculation cycles. Y at - it an app out there that can show how busy the two processors are and what happens?

  • Xoom: sd card cannot rise

I have a Xoom internal memory 32 GB WiFi and Android 3.2. When I insert a micro SD card 16 G SanDisk 4 and the power to the top class, I can't mount the card. I go to settings > store and get an error with the option to Force Close message or send a report. Most of the time, the application closes without action on my part. If I insert the SD card while the Xoom is turned on, I get a different problem. I am able to get on the storage parameter, and there is an option to mount the card. However, using this option does not have nothing to take. The card is formatted in FAT32. I copied some files to it on my PC, and the files are there when I connect the card to the PC. I checked the Commission here and not see this problem being addressed. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

  • Taking my Xoom at the pool

    Hello comrades Xoom owners.

Doc here with the latest news from my lab. My kids love the pool now that it is open, but how can I take advantage of the afternoon without my Xoom? Taking along seems quite risky, because a good by a stocky teenager unsuspecting Cannonball could fry my electronic Sidekick. So I was very happy when I found this awesome watertight flashlight which allows me to enjoy my experience with Xoom poolside without a worry about the pool next Tsunami. As a bonus, I can now bring my Xoom along on my boat and watch the jet of the dance of the waves through the new case to my Xoom. I tested the touch screen through the sticky vinyl cover soft and I can honestly say there is no difference at ALL (really surprised me). I wanted to check how the hermetic enclosure could affect heat, so I ran my Xoom for two hours tonight in the Pocket without any problem of heat whatsoever. Of course, you can not connect cables (who would?), but BT, WiFi and 3G everything work perfectly (no change of signal). And both of my stylus pens work perfectly as well. It also comes with a strap to wear it around the neck, but I'm not much of a geek!

Here's the shelter waterproof daring all near the water source:

Angle of view of the envelope:

Notice the locks DOUBLE zip (they are heavy as well) that fold under the lid snap and velcro:

The waterproof bag comes with its own cloth zippered soft case, so you can keep it to get scratched when it is not in use. I forgot at the origin of this practical advantage, but I think it's an add-on to the manufacturer.

If you don't want to leave your precious home Xoom while sunbathe you by the pool (and read Kindle books like me that plays games for children), then check this for a simple $23,49 on Amazon:
