XP - cannot install a Service Pack

I can't install service pack 1a or sp2.  I just finished a new reinstall of xp home edition and the two service packs to hang at different locations.

    Intel Core 2 Due CPU 8400 @ 3.00 GHZ w 2 GB RAM running (Windows Home Premium 64-bit).  Service Pack 1 is installed.

    Buy windows 7... tried last month upgrading Vista however the updater doesn't install not service pack 2. (KB948465).  kept trying to install it but would get to the end and fail, and then seeks to restore to the previous version and I would then have to start in safe mode.
    Spent the last day trawl through all instances and followed each piece of advice out there, but still no joy.
    Manually install the update for Windows (KB947821).  Uninstalled all antivirus & anti-spyware (AVG & Norton were both running).  Ran System File Checker & Windows Install CleanUp and say that everything is OK.
    Each reboot the computer in order to start the installation it restarts.  must select Safe mode with network... so going directly in "installation of the Service Pack: stage 3 of 3" arrives at 100% complete but then message comes up saying "Service pack do not have. Tom

    Uninstalled all antivirus & anti-spyware (AVG & Norton were both running).

    I just noticed the above your first post. You had AVG and installed NAV and loading at startup? What were you doing thought? Not surprising that SP2 or Win7 upgrade would not install!

    You must have an installed AV 1 and loading at startup. Chances are that AVG or Norton worked properly.

    You have 2 choices:

    1. back up your personal data (of which none should be considered reliable) and then format the HARD drive and do a clean install of Vista. or...

    2. make a "custom (Advanced) installation" of Win7 and then delete %system%\Windows.old <=this> . Do not even think to transfer the data from Vista to Win7. ~ Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (that is to say, mail, security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ WARNING: MS MVPs represent or work for Microsoft

    Hello

    Please join Microsoft Community where you can find the necessary information on Microsoft products!

    You can not install Vista Service pack 2 and get the error with code 800f0a09 and the message that there are problems with the driver for dell latitude.

    The problem may occur if some of the components of the update are corrupt.

    What is the full error message that you receive?

    I suggest you follow the steps mentioned below to check if the problem is with the update components:

    Method 1: Reset the update components

    See the site:

    How to reset the Windows Update components?

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

    Warning: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/back-up-the-registry

    Method 2: Run the system update readiness tool

    See the site:

    System update scan tool corrects errors of Windows Update in Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/947821

    Method 3: Turn off the antivirus software

    See the site:

    Disable the anti-virus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

    Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    I hope this helps. If the problem persists, let know us and we would be happy to help you.

    Hello Steventomaryn,

    You need to remove all previous versions of the .net framework from the computer and then you will have to re - install on the computer.

    To remove all versions of .net frameworks of the computer download and run the .net Framework Cleanup Utility from the link below:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/attachment/8904493.ashx

    Once you have deleted all the .net framework on the computer, restart the computer, and then run Windows Update s and it will start to install all updates to update .net framework.

    This should solve your problem. Please answer me if it helps.

  • Cannot install the Service Pack

    After a fresh my Windows vista 32 bit OS and before reformatting to install all programs, I am now unable to install Service Pack 1. Both in standalone or through windows update.

    At the beginning of the phase 3 installation of 3, the computer screen will corrupt (black with white verticle lines) and remains corrupted for 10 hours. Eventually an interference between step 2 of 3 and my graphics card/driver? If I turn the system still works between 3 to 10 hours and boot mode safe, corruption will go and step 3 of 3 will start 35%. If left at 100% he inform to me that he couldn't install and restoration of the changes.

    The PC is a Dell XPS420 standard with upgrade G-card (GeForce 9800 GT) using the latest drivers and ram upgrades.

    I had no end of problems with windows update. Indeed, I reformatted the OS simply because windows update was previously impossible to install SP2 (missing error element) I tried everything recommended on the net by the countless times (checksur/fixit/sfc/autonomous/safe mode) for more than 20 hours and am about to throw the pc out the window.

    There is no virus programs or indeed all running programs and the windows firewall is disabled.

    Anyone who reads this may have a similar problem could try to uninstall the driver graphics card by going to Device Manager, find the graphic card and uninstalling the driver.

    It is possible that this is what I should have done rather than reformat or try to repair, sfc, fixit or checksur my operating system scan when I found myself unable to install SP2 a few days ago.

    If you are in a similar position, use a GeForce 9800gt and consider to reset your Vista operating system to the original image, give this a go first.

    If you are a microsoft engineer and are pondering ways to improve the experience of vista, I would suggest removing the reccomendation "solution found - go to the NVIDIA website and search for the latest version of the driver" who appears almost instantly after the re-establishment of a system like mine to the factory settings and suggests instead that they are downloaded all updates first using windows update. One of these updates (after SP1) seems to have included a functioning driver for my graphics card and now it seems to work normally when installing SP2 successfully.

    Now if only I could get these 30 hours of my life back...

    If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

    It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons). +

    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

    Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11, Acer is normally Alt + F10 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s since the Partition of recovery in case of hard drive failure or System Crash, when you are replaying the ad.

    .

    They will tell you how to do this.

    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, Acer, recovery disk/s etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
  • Impossible to install Vista Service Pack 1
    Hello. I have tried everywhere looking for a solution but does. My computer will not install Windows Vista Service Pack 1. I don't get the error messages. I click Download and install via Windows Update. To install the service pack. I am asked that it can take an hour or more. Then I have to click on the acceptance contract. After clicking on these screens, a new windows update screen pops up saying update installed successfully. Said the same thing in my history of update. After windows update closing and reopening, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is back to the list of updates to install. This happens every time. The system makes no effort to install the update and doesn't give any error message.
    I tried to start in safe mode, but it still didn't install. Reinstalling Windows is not an option, because other users of this computer would be panic. I defragmented the hardrive and did an error check. Also ran CCleaner and one analyzing antivirus and ad-ware/malware. Nothing works. I know a lot about computers, but this one me stem.
    I also tried update readiness tool. Someone suggested that to me. A took about 25 minutes to install. He then said 'Installation '. I liquidated it and tried the service pack. Still a no go. So I rebooted the system and tried to install it then. It has not yet installed. I don't really know what did Update Readiness Tool.
    I also tried to install the stand-alone version. He has not installed and said that Windows update has encountered an unknown error. This is the version of 5 language pack.
    Please help me! Thank you
    What application or antivirus security suite is installed and your current subscription?  What anti-spyware (other than Defender) applications?  What third-party firewall (if applicable)?  Who were these applications that run in the background when you tried to install SP1?
    A (another) Norton or McAfee application has already been installed on the computer (for example, a free trial version which is preinstalled when you bought it)?
