Hi gcraighammond, I just noticed that you had a problem, a right-click. To change the search engine, click with the left button on the icon and a list of search engine options would fall down.

Yet once, it doesn't until you move the search box back to the toolbar AND to exit to customize the view.

Somewhere, probably due to a recent software installation, Yahoo turned my new tab behavior and I can't have the tiles in new tab I could do before, when I create a new tab or a new window (ctrl-t or ctrl-n). I have:

1A changed the subject: config entry browser.newtab.url to about: newtab; It was www.yahoo.com.
2 deleted Yahoo in the list of search engines and ensured that Google was at the top.
    3. follow-up process to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-new-tab-page but I can't find the icon of the rack on the page new tab since I can't get a tab with the tiles (that is, I can find the new tab called commands on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hide-or-display-sites-new-tab-page).

I would really like my back tiles.

It seems that your localization of Firefox no longer has the default Yahoo search plugin.

Scroll down to 16. Key drivers and select the search plugin from Yahoo appropriate for your locale.

  • Something still change my Yahoo instead of Google search engine.

I noticed tonight that my search engine Yahoo instead of Google. I changed to Google and ended the browser and then open it again and he had rekindled me to Yahoo again. I also noted a toolbar a day or 2 ago that showed Yahoo. I think it was called Obit. I turn it off. I went to manage addons, etc.. I noticed this Obit thing and completely removed and restarted my computer. The Yahoo search engine is back. How can I get rid of it forever?

    Thank you
    Maurice: Cowden

    Hi cowdenff,

You should take a look at article in the Knowledge Base using the search in Firefox bar. I also want to make sure that you completely remove this addon Obit and the Yahoo! tool bar if it is installed as well.

If this does not work, you should look at article unsaved Preferences.

    Hope this helps!

  • Why Yahoo is hijacking my search preferences despite my repeated reset of the preference and the removal of Yahoo?

Other users seem to have the same problem but I do not see that they are answered (apart from some people succeed after the installation of additional software to remember their search preferences).
    My problem just started today.
Something is wrong and I am trying to determine what happened. I changed the preferences of search to google three times today and in the process remove the option of google. Or at leasts, I chose the option that allow me to highlight and see this line removed when I clicked on a button remove the notice.
When I restart my computer and open Firefox search preference goes back to yahoo. The first time, when this started today it also put back my yahoo homepage, but is not appeared so far.

Some think, Macs are safe from unwanted software, but it is not true. Bad modules can sneak in with other software that you install. Uh, thank you for your information system, which shows the extension Searchme and other shit.

Please try to disable all non-essential or unrecognized extensions on page modules. Either:

    • CMD + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, in case of doubt, disable (or delete). Especially Searchme.

Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

  • New tab uses Yahoo as search engine - how to use Google?

I changed my default Google search engine; I use version 35. When I opened a new tab and type in the search I get results in a Yahoo Search page. How can I change this so that Google is the default search for the new tab search engine.

Thank you someone to help with this.

You probably have some adware or toolbar that has changed the page used for a newtab.

The addon installs, modifies settings and to uninstall. But you may need to remove the adware or which could change the settings again.
BUT Note If you are using Firefox (American) addon resets to Yahoo as en-US search engine and you will need to manually select the Google later.

Whatever the selected search engine to be used for the search toolbar must be used in other research including the address bar Firefox and the new tab.

All the few weeks that I have to update Firefox to get rid of the box that asks me to set Yahoo as my default search engine. But it already is and I click Yes or no I always wonder. It's more than annoying. How to solve this problem?

If you want to get rid of this "nag" - get rid of this extension of the Yahoo toolbar, which is clearly the source of this message. Or see Yahoo support to know how to remove this message within this extension.

I have a Macbook Pro and need advice for the resolution of this problem on my Macbook Pro, not a PC. Can you help me?

As a result of one of these points, a possible culprit would be an extension. If you prefer a little troubleshooting before using Refresh...

You can view, turn off and often remove unwanted extensions or unknowns on the page modules. Either:

    • Command + shift + a (Windows: Ctrl + Shift + a)
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, take a critical look on the list on the right side. All extensions are optional. When in doubt, turn off.

Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.
