You want to install Windows 7 on a different partition... course Windows XP operating system

Hello

I want to install Windows 7 on another drive... I checked my system compatibility by Upgrade Advisor. He advised me to do a custom installation. But I want to keep Windows XP with Windows 7. Is it possible to install windows 7 without performing a new installation. This will affect XP.

Thank you

Windows Update has nothing to do with the upgrade of Windows. Please post future questions to 'modernize' a Windows XP to Win7 computer in this forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_install-windows_7

If you install Win7 on another drive or the boot drive, it'll still be a clean install.

    Hello

You cannot install Defender in Vista; It is already part of the Vista operating system.

    Read about Defender:

If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.

    There is nothing to worry.

Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.

If you are using one of the above AntiVirus programs, this Information from David O - Support Engineer shows you how to manually enable Windows Defender (disregard information from uninstalling; not possible in Vista):

"Go to start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Look for Windows Defender.

Right click and select Properties , ensure that Startup Type is automatic.

Once modified, click apply and OK.

Quit and restart your computer. Check the back take the same path to confirm that Windows Defender has started"

If you bought a laptop and you want to install Windows 8 Professional, can install you it directly or you must have a base like Windows 7 Stater license?

    Hello

The only FULL of Windows 8 Pro version would be the OEM System Builder... everything else is an upgrade...

Unlike Win 7 and earlier versions, Microsoft is not offering one COMPLETE Win 8 other than OEM package...

The difference is that the OEM version has no support from Microsoft... If you have a problem, you are on your own... Just enjoy the Forums and for any issues that arise...

Providing that there are drivers available for your laptop to win 8, it should work...

Original title: MS Office programs do not open after installation of Windows update to Windows Vista operating system

After having decided to install the Windows Update my computer told me was available all my software as my programs MS Offfice is no longer open.  I don't know what to do.  The only thing that still works is the Windows Media Player.  I can't open Word or Excel, I can't access my photos.  Open Internet Explorer is like a weird nightmare but I am able to access the Internet.  I tried reinstalling my MS Office software, which did not work.  I have no idea what to do to solve the problem, but I need my computer back. It was good except for its slow, when I open certain programs, now I can't access something.  Any ideas what I should do to correct the nightmare?

If you use Norton, disable it before using the system restore.

Press F8 at the startup/power and the list of startup options, use THE ARROW key to select Safe mode > and then press ENTER.

    Also:

    2. click on start > right click on computer > properties > Windows updates down the lower left corner > updates installed in the lower left corner in the next window

    > then click the one that you don't want > uninstall will appear at the top > uninstall it.

In addition, on the page where you clicked "Installed updates", click on change settings at the top left corner it

    > Change update settings in the next page of AutoUpdate to "check for updates but let me choose etc" > OK ".

When you take a look at pending updates, you can either download/install them one at the time, namely the update causing you problems.

    > or if you do not need an individual > right-click on > UAC prompt > hide it

  • If you have ESXi installed on a USB drive.  Where are the comments operating system installed?

I'm totally new to ESXi.  I googled this answer apparently simple like crazy, but couldn't find a solid answer.  If you install ESXi on a USB key or USB hard drive, where the guest os get installed?  On the same USB device because the ESXi OS is installed?

I have a 40 GB usb hard drive, I want to install it.  I don't want to touch none of the disks in my PC at all, but rather run straight from the USB key (similar to the live linux race).  It will work all fine without any problem? I use it only for the purposes of learning, nothing major at this point.

    Welcome to the community,

Unfortunately, this won't work. Virtual machines (i.e. the VMFS file system) are only supported on storage 'fast', i.e. the SSD/HDD or shared storage LUNs. You cannot create a data store VMFS on a USB device.

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)
Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:
The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.
(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

After the first reboot, set the BIOS to boot from the hard drive.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

  • Error in Windows Media Player, Windows Media Player is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled. You want to install the Player from the Microsoft Website

I don't know how or why it happened, but one day to another, WMP won't open. I tried to open an MP3 file, and he says that WMP has not been correctly configured "Windows Media Player is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the player from the Microsoft Website? ».

I assumed that since I had to make some updates yesterday, that he was at fault, it had installed an update/new version of WMP and it was either buggy or doesn't work do not, so I went to the Windows updates, but no recent updates on the list had a remote connection with Windows Media Player.

So, I accept the first proposal of the error message, and I'm headed to the Windows Media Player download page on the Microsoft Website. However, the version I should install (which was the one I already had) has Windows Media Player 12 for Windows 7. But this option is locked for me, and as I tried to install it, it says it is not compatible with my system. Not to mention, it's a whole package and not just the WMP installation.

I tried everything and nothing seems to work. It won't even let me uninstall WMP because it won't let me open.

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. And the error messages that I get to try to launch any WMP feature (the tool, the installation program, no matter what), opens an error window stating that "there is a more recent version of Windows Media (12.0.7601.18150) player already installed on your computer. It is not possible to use and more old (12.0.7601.17514) installation package to install files or repair your current version of the reader. »

Please, I ask for any intervention in this case.

This arises from time to time, but I don't think that there is a difficulty of 100%.

You can try (in no particular order)

    1. uninstall, reboot, reinstall WMP- http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/26107/how-to-reinstall-windows-media-player-in-windows-7-to-solve-problems/ if that doesn't help, try a SFC/scannow check - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
    2. There is this diagnostic tool - http://support2.microsoft.com/mats/windows_media_player_diagnostic/ that can help (from http://support2.microsoft.com/fixit/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0 )
    3. You could try a system restore to a date before the problem occurred to see if that helps - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/system-restore-faq#1TC=windows-7 and see if it gets a WMP work back
    4. Last resort, a repair install - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
    5. Or just simply forget about WMP and try another party 3rd multimedia player that you can install and uninstall at will, as free VLC - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

But it may be worth waiting a while to see if someone else has a better solution.

Do you remember the last time that your Media Player worked properly?  You can use the system restore (type it in the start menu to find) to go back on this point.  This restoration takes about 2 minutes and will not affect your files - no matter how far you go.  It simply restores your system files and settings.

The two big names of virtualization are Parallels and VMware. They have a sort of leap-frogging each other in terms of features. Parallels has a fairly seamless integration between Mac and Windows.
