Your device is using an outdated driver is no longer supported by Windows Media Player.

What is the solution to this problem?

Hi Johnny,.

This problem can occur when the device driver (sound card) is obsolete compared to the latest version of the driver available on the website of the manufacturer of the computer. In addition, when an external device is connected when you run Windows Media player on the computer, it will access the device when you navigate to the files in the driver. In this case, it will check the version of the driver for the external device. If it has not updated or not installed correctly, you may receive an error message.

I suggest you to update the version of sound card by referring to the manufacturer's Web site and check if it solves the problem:

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Update-driver-hardware-isn ' t-work correctly

Also if there are any external device connected, please remove the devices (except the keyboard and mouse) and check the status of this issue.

    Hi bbdunford,

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file.

You may encounter this error message for the following reasons:

    (a) the file type is supported by the drive, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the player.

    (b) the file might have been encoded with a codec that is not supported by Windows Media Player. If this is the case, Windows Media Player cannot play the file.

Windows media player will play only the files and videos only if it supports this type of file.

    Method 1

Check if the video file format is supported by Windows media player using the link below.

Information on the types of media files that supports Windows Media Player

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/316992

If the files are not supported by Windows media player, then you will need to use a few players from third party that supports this file format.

    Method 2

  • Why Windows Media Player Encoder auxiliary continue to use more memory, almost crashing my computer, and how to fix it?

Whenever I use the Windows Media Player on my computer, the Windows Media Player Encoder auxiliary uses memory more and more every second I have Windows Media Player, no matter what I use Media Player to open.
in any case, she continues to use more memory the computer almost to the point of freezing, trolling, and I do not know how to fix it.
The reason why I know this has to do with the memory usage is that when I open the Task Manager, it usually gets above the point of using 300 000 k memory usage before I can put an end to the task.

    Hi Bbdunford,

O what is the file format?

O if it works well before?

Today, there are hundreds of audio and video codecs in use. Some were created by Microsoft, but the vast majority of codecs have been created by other companies, organizations or individuals. By default, the Windows operating system and the player includes a number of the most popular codecs, such as MP3, Windows Media Audio and Windows Media Video.

There might be times, however, when you want to read the content that is compressed with a codec that does not include Windows or the default player. In many cases, you can download the necessary codec on the web for free or for a fee. And, in some cases, the player can automatically use the codecs installed by other reading programs and the creation of digital media on your computer.

You may encounter this error message for the following reasons:

    1. the file type is supported by the drive, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the player.

2 - the file might have been encoded with a codec that is not supported by Windows Media Player. If this is the case, Windows Media Player cannot play the file.

You can try the steps and check if it makes a difference.

    1. in order to determine what codec was used with a specific file, play the file in the player, if possible. When the file is playing, right-click the file in the library, and then click Properties. On the file tab, look at the sections of video codec and Audio codec.

2 download and install Codecs by clicking on the PLAYER tab and check. To connect to the Internet and automatically download Codecs player

    3. configure the protocol settings

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Network tab.

In the Streaming protocols area, select all the check boxes Protocol.

When connecting to a server running Windows Media Services, Windows Media Player tries to use all selected protocols.
