Z210: Z210: RAID 1: failure of a disk. How to replace?

Hello

I got in trouble with an Z210 workstation. Initially, it was not possible to start, and the status of the RAID 1 was down. Without the ability to boot. A single disk (disk 1) was knocked out. The other (disk 0) was OK (menbre disc).

I tried to replace the defective disk (with exactly the same kind of drive) without success.  I want to say, the RAID controller detected a new disc and wonder for the reconstruction. The status was 'rebuild' and asked me to start windows.

After starting windows and after restarting the onther. I had the following status: disc 1 OK, disc 0 KB. No possibility to start.

Finally is there a procedure given safely replace a disk in this case? Where can I find documentation on how to rebuild a disk?

Thank you.

Hello

    Hello

    You can view these methods:

Method 1: As a first step, check to see if the hard disk becomes detected or listed in the Basic Input/Output system (BIOS). Also, be sure to change the boot order in the CMOS settings so that thehard drive is the first on the list.

Note: To learn how, see the documentation provided with your computer or contact the manufacturer of your computer.

Note: BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from configuration can resolved BIOS/CMOS settings. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

Method 2: If the manufacturer has installed the Recovery Console on your computer, perform the check disk to fix this.

At the recovery console command line, type:

    Chkdsk /r

When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.

Note: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

    Hey, @sumukhreddy!

I'm really sorry to hear about your WD drive problems. However, I recommend you to use Data LifeGuard Diagnostics from WD (DOS version) to test again and check on the health and the SMART State it. The DOS version of the utility will allow you to perform diagnostics without having to boot into any operating system. You should be able to find under downloads by product once you select WD Caviar Blue.  You can extend the WD software link and follow the instructions.

The drive is OEM and most likely came with your laptop, so I recommend you to contact the manufacturer and check the warranty of your laptop. It is always covered, you can RMA and they should be able to provide a repair and the implementation of the defective material.

Good luck! I hope I've been helpful! :)

  • replacing a drive RAID 1 failure in PowerEdge T710

I just got the disk(146GB) of replacement for one of the disks RAID 1 has failed. I would like to know what the best approach is to replace the defective with the new one (same size), now that the spare drive (300 GB) is used by the raid. I want to get the bigger drive and re - assign as a global hot spare, by the original configuration is possible without disconnecting the server?

    Here is my config:

    T710 Server (8 discs - 4 X 146 GB, 4 x 300 GB)

    PERC H700 integrated

    2x146GB drives - RAID 1

    2x146GB drives - RAID 1

    3x300GB drive - RAID 5

    1 x 300 GB disk - hot spare

    Thank you.

This should work for you. What it will do is essentially the same process I described. When you insert the replacement drive and implement the Member to replace it will fail then the immediate replacement and then start reconstruction on replacement.

Hello Datsuny, many times this error means that the hard drive has failed or the operating system on the hard disk is damaged.

I would tend to think that the hard drive has failed.

  • How do I get Windows to reinstall after the total failure of the disk?

I had to replace my hard drive, but how to get Windows Vista version licensed as was preinstalled on my broken drive?  Thank you

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Hard drive failure is imminent and must be replaced

    HP TouchSmart 610-1020 has

    Windows 7 Home Edition Premium--> Windows 8

Hi there, since a terrible week for me I started to receive the error message:

Hard drive failure is imminent and must be replaced

only when am re - / from my PC.

I made a backup already a few days ago (space available was already 85% - did not much), run all those disk cleanup, defragmentation, analyze and verify programs and there was nothing wrong. I ran all possible controls and it had nothing recorded. I've updated / installed Windows 8 which works perfectly without any problems, no computer crash or that it is, but only sometimes receive a message saying that I need to run/shedule a back, etc.

As I already mentioned, there was no disk error, no other problems known but still get the message "hard drive failure is imminent and should be replaced" and crazy!

    My questions are:

    (1) what on Earth is happening, there is always a problem with touch smart PC; should he stay away all in a desktop PC and just buy older versions - separate screen and tour, etc.?

    (2) I have no problem and continue to use my PC but wonder what will happen; It will be down, it's just a false error message, what should I do?

    (3) if I have to take it to a service, what should I take care of?

Thank you for taking your time and wil appreciate for your posts about.

    Hello

What has happened is that the CHIP system reports told you that your hard drive will fail little time. It is good that you have saved.  The fault lies not in all of your PC, but in a single component, namely the hard disk. You own your PC like one year standard warranty is longer.

You need to buy a hard drive with the following specifications. It of time to find your recovery disc as you need to recover your PC in its delivered State and then apply the upgrade 8 to win again. You can install it yourself or have done by a qualified PC store or from an HP Service Technician. The HP service center is the most expensive option.

You can avoid having to use the recovery disk and upgrade by a clone of your hard drive on a 1.5 TB external drive. You will be able to migrate the clone on the new diskette with a product commercially available as Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12.

Any plugged into USB drive must be formatted FAT32 (no other type of FAT as exFAT) or HFS +, IE standard Apple format.

How to replace a bad IDE disk with a USB Flash drive system - and have all the functionality of XP Pro SP3
Given a PC without hard disk...
How can you use a flash drive instead?
So, indeed, the USB key works as an SSD...
I saw online options that gives partial functionality of the system... and an option that is more than $100 (more than the system's worth)...
None of these options are acceptable in the circumstances.
It is an effort to create a machine for a particular use, built from a recycled pc for which hard drive was removed and destroyed by the original owner...
The criterion is that it must work just like it was a mechanical drive running xp pro sp3 with all updates, etc...
    Thanks for any help.

You can not install XP on a Flash as his unsupported drive. Your only two options are a traditional hard drive or Solid State Drive (SSD).

    Hello

Here are the different ways to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    ____________________________________________________________

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

    __________________________________________________________

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer
