10 gr 2 ODBC 64-bit Windows 2008 EE (64-bit) to sql server 2005 (32-bit)
Hi all, I have a problem with the creation of a 10 g 2 64 bit Windows 2008 ODBC connection to sql server 2005 Windows 2003 32-bit1. I create a listener.ora following the 1521 port is for oracle DB and the 1522 is for sql server
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1)
(= Extproc PROGRAM)
)
)
SID_LIST_HSODBC_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =

)
)
HSODBC =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp (PORT = 1522))(HOST=localhost))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = HSODBC))
(HS = OK)
)
3. I created an inithsodbc.ora like that
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = hsodbc
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 0
4. I have also set up the dns system and successfully tested.
5. my link of database look like
CREATE public DATABASE LINK "hsodbc.
CONNECT to 'sysdba' IDENTIFIED BY 'masterkey' USING 'hsodbc. "
6. when I run my select I get the following error
Select * from dual@hsodbc

TNS-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
AMT-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
AMT-00530: Protocol adapter error
Windows 64-bit error: 2: no such file or directory
You have defined 2 separate listeners:
The first is called listener and uses port 1521 which contains the DG4MSQL entry in the SID_LIST_LISTENER. The second listener is called LISTENER_D4GMSQL and is listening on port 1511 - but this listener has no section of SID.
Your tnsnames.ora contains as port 1511, so when you try to use the link data base based on tnsnames.ora alias dg4msql connection is made to the LISTENER_DG$ MSQL (as this one is listening on 1511). But this listener does not have the SID DG4MSQL and so the connection fails.
You can now change your configuration by editing the tnsnames.ora file by ensuring that you use the listening port that serves the DG4MSQL SID:
dg4msql =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp)(HOST=localhost) (PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = dg4msql))
(HS = OK)
)
# SIDE NOTE: Make sure the LISTENER named listener has been started and serves the SID DG4MSQL
or by modifying your listener.ora file name change
SID_LIST_LISTENER to SID_LIST_LISTENER_DG4MSQL
Afterwards please, STOP and START the utility LISTENER_DG4MSQL lsnrctl listener.

update of sql server 2005 service pack 3 error code 6D9E Windows update security does not accept the update
Hey lasdj,
Thanks for posting in the Microsoft answers site!
If you receive Windows Update error 6d9e while installing SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 by using Windows Update, it means that the installation folders and directories are compressed or encrypted.
To fix this problem, make sure the folder locations where you are installing the service pack to aren't compressed or encrypted, or specify a different folder and then run Windows Update again.
Therefore, remove the compression of the DATA directory and run together to the top again.
Remove compression from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder and see if you are able to install the updates without any problem.
See the links below for more details:

Hello
Is there a link that indicates that the SQL 2005 SP3 is supported on Windows 2008 SP2?
I can find a link that indicates that SQL 2005 SP2 is supported on Windows 2008 SP1 (http://www.microsoft.com/Sqlserver/2005/en/us/system-requirements.aspx). But I want to make sure that you document somewhere that Windows 2008 SP2 is also supported.

Hi RTsheba,
Your computer is on the field? If so, you probably haven't privileges to download and install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706)
In most cases, these errors are caused by temporary problems caused by very slight interruptions in communications between the computer to update and the update to download. These questions are usually self-healing. So, before you try the troubleshooting, I suggest you follow the suggestions below.
Suggestion 1:
Temporarily disable all security software and try to download the update. Follow the steps mentioned below
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software
Note: Allow all security software after downloading and installing the update.
Windows update General troubleshooting
The following describes how do to stop the services related to the update of Windows, rename system folders, save the associated DLL files and then restart the services mentioned previously. This diagnosis is generally applied to all Windows Update related issues.
Suggestion 2:
Stop Windows Update services
1. click on start, click principally made programs, accessories, right-click on command prompt and select run as administrator.
2. If you receive a user account control notification simply click on continue.
3. at the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command.
net stop wuauserv
net stop bitsnet stop cryptsvc
4 Please, do not close the command prompt window.
Proposal 3:
Rename Windows Update records
1. at the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:
2 ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old
3 ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
4 Please, do not close the command prompt window.

Windows Update continually wants to install Sql Server SP3...
I have a 64-bit system running Sql Server 2005 (64-bit) and Sql Express (it seems that it is 64-bit).
Windows Update said I needed sp3 for both versions, but after making a stop, I always get the message that he wants to apply the service pack.I went out and manually d / edition and installed the service pack for both servers, but Windows Update is not in agreement that the service pack is applied.
This makes my machine windows 7 have a stop for 5 to 10 minutes every time because it's think it's to apply the service pack.
Someone please tell me how to stop that!

Update Windows SQL Server 2005 Express Edition cannot install KB2463332
I use Windows XP Professional and I'm unable to install the most recent Windows Update KB2463332 for Windows SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP4
I am able to download... but when it runs the installation of locks. Microsoft has released about 7 updates recently and I was able to install all except KB2463332
Why this update lock on installation?
Thank you!
Hi BarbE52,
1. you receive messages or error codes?
2. have you tried to install the update manually?
Method 1:
You can read the following article and try to reset the Windows Update components and check.
How to reset the Windows Update components?
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058
Method 2:
You can try to download and install the standalone update package.
a. download the update from the Microsoft Download Center:
http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/en/
Also check out the link:
How to obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2005
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/913089
b. double-click on the downloaded file.
c. you can either click Run to start the installation or you can click on save and save it on the desktop and run the installation once the update is completely downloaded.
Hope this information is useful.

I'm Zenith one 733F error Code when I try to install the latest Windows Vista Update, which is an update to SQL Server 2005 (Service Pack 2 KB970895). This update has failed several times now.
I followed the advice given in a separate post in this forum at Ramer49 to perform a selective startup with msconfig to try to run the update with all Microsoft Services disabled. This does not solve the problem.
I spent reviewing the logfile under C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\SQL9_Hotfix_KB970895_sqlrun_sql.msp.log. The problem highlighted is that the Services of Services SQL2005 database program did not start. Here is an excerpt from the log file...
