  OK, so my first HARD drive news was bricked because I didn't know that a locked BIOS would automatically lock a new drive.   I know now...

  Rule 1: a LOCKED bios will lock (read: brick) a new HARD drive

  
  So, what about the two rule. Would be a HDD then the lockout a BIOS otherwise Virgin locked?
  

  Inquiring minds want to know - (mine, anyway.  Hard drives get expensive when you have to buy them in bulk!)

  I is a computer technology way back in retirement now and my girlfriend son has a Dell Inspiron N5110 and she got the trinkets on the bios and some how locked bios and asks the password service tag. So here I am stuck and cannot lock this thing, she never recorded and the warranty expired, so I need to know what I should do to get this master password to unlock. Since she never recorded I advanced and recorded in my name and I am sure that this is not proof of ownership, but I did anyway. so if someone can tell me now that it will cost me for a lot for this code I would appreciate,

  I get the message on the application of hp support install Ganges Colorado V1.0 status update on my HP flow 8. But when I select Install runs for about an hour and then fails. It fails during the installation step after the success of the download. My windows update is current.  I tried this several times a week and always get that number. Help, please.

  Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! It's a good place to find the help you need, other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff. I understand that an update of the BIOS recommended by HP Support Assistant is crashes when you try to install it. I'm happy to help you.

  Note that in general the BIOS updates are not mandatory. It is not a bad idea to do so, but if everything works well, it is not necessary. That being said, I would suggest to backup your data to an external device before doing anything else.

  Then try a refresh of your tablet as follows:

  HP computers - refresh your PC to solve problems (Windows 8)

  See if the BIOS update will now work for you. If this isn't the case, then try a reset.

  HP computers - reset your PC to solve problems (Windows 8)

  Double-tap the up arrow. The button becomes white and you will be using the capslock. Double click again to turn it off.

  Your laptop is to produce a code hexadecimal halt which is stored in the ram as a 'one stop' and is recalculated after a reboot.  This indicates that you have a FRIEND bios later and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work - surprisingly, you can always remove power on password of the machine by removing the cell RTC (leave the connected Power Board) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before reinserting the RTC.

  The bad news is that the RTC may be on the 'wrong' side of the system board, so it will take some disassembly.

  I am 55 of the Thinkpad x140e deployment in a school, and I want to be able to lock the BIOS so that students will not be able to boot from other devices or other changes in the BIOS. I wonder if anyone knows of an app that allows me to lock the BIOS without having to do it manually on each machine. I'm their imagery with the same picture, so if there is an application that can be put on the image beforehand, it would be ideal. Someone at - it run in a similar situation or you know any solution?

  Lenovo has some scripts (and the documentation that comes with it) to the configuration of the BIOS via WMI available here:

  The X140e is not listed as a model of care, but it might be worth trying anyway.

  How you deploy the image? If you use something like MDT or SCCM, you would create a task that runs the script as part of the imaging process.

  Then run USB Image tool.

  Choose the flash drive, and then click RESTORE.

  Remove the flash drive after the restore.

  Insert a locked in a portable flash drive and boot. "If the HARD drive is installed remove before start".

  At C:\OUTPUT, type CD...   "And then press ENTER.

  HPBR of type "and then press ENTER.

  First thing is to save your settings.

  Select 3 # re-program.

  Press "S" to save the system information.

  Type HPBR and press ENTER.

  Given that your model is not listed, select "SHOTGUN".

  After the reboot, repeat 'SHOTGUN' a second time.

  I would like to know the result, so I can update my list.
