12 c grid rhel6 iscsi asm Storage Infrastructure

I'm working on the construction of my 12 c Grid Infrastructure database by using the following:

  • RHEL 6.6
    • node rac1
    • node rac2
  • I use Synology NAS storage Oracle Clusterware RAC shared storage. The following objectives were discovered by node rac1 and rac2. (/ dev/sda/dev/sdb/dev/sdc)
    • LUN/iSCSI shared CRS 10 g
    • LUN/iSCSI shared DATA 400 G
    • LUN/iSCSI shared FRA 400 G

My question is?

How do these iSCSI disks for ASM 12 c?

Should I format each drive on each node and then oracleasm create discs?

Please notify.

BECAUSE two-node Oracle 12 c Grid Infrastructure installed on RHEL6

Shared Storage for laboratory: Synology NAS which I created three LUNS/iSCSI devices:

1 for the CRS

1 for DATA

1 for FRA

Each node (initiator) discovered and connect on the objectives, the DATA and FRA

I then used fdisk/dev/sda and/dev/sdb, / dev/sdc, which created

/ dev/sda1

/ dev/sdb1

/ dev/sdc1

Initialized oracleasm on both RAC nodes and created the CBC records using the oracleasm createdisk CRS/dev/sda1

Then oracleasm scandisk

Then oracleasm listdisks

And CBC, DATA and FRA discs seem to be working now.

  • Nested ESXi 5.1 and iSCSI Shared Storage

    People:

I am unable to get my ESXi servers nested to see the iSCSI shared storage, that I put in place for them. I use iSCSI for the ESXi host, who holds the guests of ESXi, so I have a successful iSCSI configuration to use as my reference.

Here's what I have for the host network config:

    iSCSI targets

+ IP1: 172.16.16.7 (subnet for host IP storage)

+ IP2: 172.16.17.7 (subnet for storage over IP comments)

vSwitch associated vmnic2 on NIC IP storage

+ Port "IP storage" group containing virtual NIC both ESXi hosts

+ VMkernel Port for iSCSI host connections: 172.16.16.28

Here's what I have to config network comments:

+ The highest virtual NIC group of ports "IP storage".

+ vSwitch with only a VMkernel port for iSCSI of the guest connections: 172.16.17.38

From the iSCSI host, I am able to ping 172.16.16.28. However, I am unable to ping 172.16.17.38, and here's the really confusing part - I am able to get an answer ARP of that associated with the VMkernel port with the correct MAC network CARD! This eliminates all kinds of potential configuration issues (for example means bad NIC, bad IP, etc..)

The firewall on the host indicates the software iSCSI port outgoing 3260 Client is open. Capture of the target iSCSI host package reveals no. TRAFFIC from VMkernel IP guest when updating to storage adapters.

There are various products that you can use. E.g. Openfiler, Starwind, open-e or VSA from HP. For the last HP offers especially for VMware Player/workstation demo version.

  • Change the Cluster File System-> ASM storage mechanism? Options?

Currently I have set up RAC 11g to the following address:

    * cluster of 11g two knots on Red Hat Linux 64-bit on Oracle VM Server 2.1.2 E5
    * a node 11g in Oracle VM used for NFS share for the two nodes of Oracle on Red Hat Linux E5 64bits

Could I take a node 11g in Oracle VM and reinstalling Red Hat Linux and allows to create ASM storage? and how could it be shared for two other nodes? Thank you

    Hello

Ricardo brings a good point. I understand that you currently have an HR / node Oracle VM running as a server NFS, NFS to provide storage for RAC database.

Given that you have no support for your system - because it's a test system - and you have your 2 node RAC running on the same physical machine (same Oracle VM host), then you can use the local storage of the physical server as a base for ASM. If there are not enough local storage on your system, this could be a problem. In all cases, instances of ASM should run in the Oracle VM hosting the RAC instances.

Please, take a look at the updated recently in the CANTON "[Oracle Real Application Clusters environments Oracle VM |]» http://www.Oracle.com/technology/products/database/Clusterware/PDF/oracle_rac_in_oracle_vm_environments.PDF] ", which has a section on the storage configuration update.

Thank you for choosing Oracle VM on VMware!

    Hope that helps. Thank you

  • How to compare premises, iSCSI and storage NFS for VMware ESXi 5 with IO Analyzer?

    Hello

I have 2 hosts ESXi 5.0 with a few virtual machines running. I would compare the IO throughput for my local storage, iSCSI and NFS vmware storage store. Can someone point me to the right direction? I read the documents and tutorials, but I'm not sure how to compare tests from these 3 options.

I have a need to compare the following storage options.

Local disk on the ESX host

    iSCSI on QNAP NAS device

    iSCSI on EMC e 3100

    NFS on QNAP NAS device

    NFS on EMC e 3100

IOmeter seems to be good tool based on reading, but still not clear where to make changes to pass tests of storage to another.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sam

If you use IO monitor, then you must simply vmotion the VMS to the data store for the device you want to test, and then run the test (and Records results). Can vmotion for the following data store and repeat.

  • iSCSI - performance iSCSI Lefthand storage

    Hello

I have a virtual machine with a number of iSCSI disks. I'm looking to analyze disk performance in vCenter.

In the performance chart legend come objects to disk as "LEFTHAND iSCSI disk (naa.6000eb3710 etc...).

My question is how do I find which drive is if that makes sense?

    Thank you

    PM

This is a limitation of the graphic performance, there is no graphic available with store data and this device name. We have to note the name of the data store and the ID of the corresponding host-> Configuration-> storage device and match with the column of the object in the performance table.

The graph button "Pop-up table" far close Save, Refresh icon and print, you can pop up.

    1. I'm unable to connect to DB XML through ftp or http protocol. Can someone help me with the steps about connecting with xml db!

    2. Once connected via Enterprise Manager and looking through the XML database resources;
I can see all the other xml db, but not/sys/asm files. Why this missing file in xml db and how do I get it there?

  • ISCSI connected storage / access it from windows / backup

I have successfully created a cluster of ESX Server images computer virtual running of a LUN iSCSI on the network plan. However to support this until I need to be able to access these images from a windows machine.

I installed the windows on windows iSCSI initiator and connected successfully. However, windows cannot read the formatted file as its VMFS3 system.

IM only using standard backup for the moment software and intended to stop the VM machines one night to do it. However with no windows is unable to read the file system I can't.

Read VMFS I need special backup software running or have I missed something?

    Thanks for the help

    Hello

You will need to have VCB (VMware consolidated backup) installed on the Windows computer, this will help you in the backup.

  • storage iSCSI with UCS

    Hi all

Can I ask a question regarding the connection of iSCSI storage for use with UCS. Look at us with Nimble iSCSI based storage & want to understand best practice recommendations on how to connect it to UCS to get the best level of performance & reliability / resilience etc.

Another issue is more closely how VMware deals with loss of connectivity on a path (where double connections are the installation program from the warehouse to the tissues), would he re - route traffic to the path running?

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Hello Kassim,

Currently the agile iSCSI storage is certified with UCS 2.0.3 firmware version.

  • iSCSI storage presented to the hosts managed by different vCenter Server - questions?

I currently have three hosts (esxi 5.0) that are managed by vcenter server 5.5 U2. The hosts are attached to iSCSI LUNS (data warehouses) 10.

I'm migrating to esxi 6.0 U2. For this, there are three new hosts have esxi 6.0 installed and managed by vcenter server 6.0 U2 U2.

The plan is to detach/remove 5.0 5.5 U2 vcenter esxi hosts. Then import it into vcenter 6.0 U2 (a new cluster will be created). Once imported, uninstall the 5.5 vcenter u2. Then turn off the resident VMs imported esxi 5 hosts and move them to 6.0 esxi hosts.

My query is regarding regarding storage.

At present, three new guests see all storage the old 5.0 esxi hosts to see (guests are not in the cluster. "I'm still trying to put things up). That's because the new hosts were deposited to the same group on the side iSCSI initiator storage. Now things, data warehouses are visible by the hosts with esxi 5.0 (managed by vcenter 5.5 u2) and also the esxi hosts 6.0 (managed by vcenter 6.0 u2). The only VMs residing in esxi environment 6 is vcenter 6.0 u2 and update manager 6.0 u2. These are in a data store that is not any other virtual machines.

That's no problem during the migration? I have not created a cluster for the esxi 6.0 hosts yet and plan to do after obtaining your entries.

    Thank you!

No problem whatsoever, regardless whether if you do or that you add no vSphere 6 hosts in a HA cluster.

If you temporarily enable EVC on the vSphere hosts 6, once all hosts are connected to the same vCenter you can VMotion all VMs to new hosts even without any stop. Clear CVS once the migration is complete.

  • The upgrade to ESXi 4.1 with storage iSCSI software to ESXi 5.5

I intend to upgrade ESXi 4.1 with which I have attached to ESXi 5.5 iSCSI software storage

I've updated all my guests who were on the SAN storage with no problems.

I would like to know that if it there's nothing I should take care before I update the host connected iSCSI to ESXi 5.5, as for the hosts with SAN attached storage I made to remove the cables of SAN before upgrading the host.

Also, if all known problems, you will be informed during the upgrade to ESXi 4.1 to ESXi 5.5 with iSCSI Software storage, please let me know?

If there is no different process to upgrade coz in ESXi 4.1 I do not see this link ports of iSCSI vmkernel ports software iSCSI but I know in ESXi5.5 we have to or I just launch a procedure of standard upgrade via the Update Manager and everything will be taken care?

    Thanks in advance

With ESXi prior to version 5, linking ports had to be done via command line. However, if it has been configured correctly, you should be able to upgrade to ESXi 5.5 (assuming that the host has not been previously updated since version 3). BTW. the last time that I disconnected the host of storage for an upgrade has been with ESX 3.0.

  • Differences between the ISCSI connections to the storage in vSphere 4.1 and 5.0.

I'm in trouble of setting up the connections of storage in a new VSphere 5.0 test environment. In our environment VSphere 4.1, it was possible to create a virtual switch add two Broadcom NetXtreme II 5709 NIC. Set assets. IP Hash value as load balancing. (LACP Etherchannel on physical switches) This configuration uses a grain port and a single IP address. Then add our NetApp NFS storage and ISCSI Equillogic storage. In VSphere 5.0, I can't create this same configuration. I have to create separate with separate IP addresses vmkernal ports? The idea was to have redundant connections to the storage and flow of these two NETWORK cards. Possibly adding additional if necessary to the futuer NETWORK cards. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

How can I work around this:

"VMkernel network adapter must have an active link exactly and no waiting rising to be eligible for the iSCSI HBA connection."

I can certainly say that the way which allows you to configure the iSCSI Multipathing is incorrect.

The main idea is to let Native Multipathing Plugin to decide what network path to choose, not the vSwitch.

At the level of the network layer, you must have 1 VMK by a physical NIC.

This technique applies as well for vSphere 4.1 and 5.0, but with the 5.0 it is configured easier and more quickly.

Here's a very brief consequence of steps

    1. get 2 VMK interfaces and assign an IP by each VMK.

    2. set each VMK to use only one physical NETWORK adapter

3 GB with storage iSCSI software adapter, turn it on and bind your VMKs 2.

4 connect to your iSCSI storage space

5 rescan devices, create the VMFS datastore

    6. set the desired load balancing VMFS method or just set up a prior default create new VMFS

and it is strongly recommended to read this guide - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-50-storage-guide.pdf

It is to install and configure (run the configuration wizards) to support Oracle Cluster (RAC)
