120 GB disk full Win7 - windows a 30% & winsxs a 15%

I am very confused with the winsxs folder.
My SSD is almost full, and each tool and accounting I use said winsxs a 16.2 GB of files.
When I opened the files I see what are looking normal files (.ini, .sys and .exe) and the property file seem to indicate that they are hard links.
My windows folder Eclipse users and programs (both) records over 30 GB reported.
I need a lot of space for video and photo editing, but at the beginning is resembled my need that 30 GB of space to work on a 120 GB should work.

Number of messages says this record is special and the size is not right and we should leave him alone.
Several forum posts say these folders are created as a result of system or install/uninstall process restore operations.
I 16 749 files in mine with various sizes of 1.5 k in 2 250 KB.  In every way I have look at these files, they look like real files.
I doubt that I did 16 000 installs or has created 10,000 of restore points.  I have never done a restore or manually created a point.

From the simple math, I doubt that these are only created by intall/unistall and restore point process.
If I spent 5 minutes by install I have served 174 days 8 hours installation stuff in the past two years or 22 installs every day.
The problem is real, because the programs have problems running because there is no place.
The windows folder reports 26.9 GB after of many adjustments, cleanings, reductions of file page and FixIt operations.

Can someone tell me how ID a link 'hard '?
Is there a way to discover the disk space accurately and effectively allocated in NTFS?
My only real option is to reinstall the OS and start this process again?

Oh and isn't fun to have the two units of measurement of the disk space, GB and Gb or GB Giga without consistency similar in use.

Thank you

Type disk cleanup in the search above the Start button box and press ENTER. Click OK and after the calculation of space, you will see a window with a list of files to delete. Use the right-hand scroll bar to view the Scriptures further to the bottom of the list. Check the box before the cleaning of Windows Update and the Service Pack backup files and click OK

Not much wrote again on the cleaning function of Windows Update added to cleaning disc in October 2013. The first time, it is managed it can increase the free space on the drive by something like 4 to 5 GB. The free space on the drive back if you run after the subsequent monthly updates is not so dramatic, but significant,

Every time that you run this new feature when shut down you the system is reconfigured when stopping and when the computer is started then. This is similar to what happens when you install several updates of windows. However, the configuration can take several hours, which is much longer than when you have only updated. It is important not to press the power button configuration is underway. If you have a laptop, make sure that the computer is connected to a power source. Also the second time that stop you the process happens again, but this time after that configuration there is a reference to cleaning and when completed the computer automatically restarts on its own without any user input. When the computer has restarted the computer is available for use.

No documentation I've seen warns the user what to expect, and my first reaction was that something had gone wrong. It was not and should not as long as the user not involved not.

If you need not what either through the WINDOWS. OLD folder (and you have no place where to copy it offsite) - sure... delete it.  It was created when you re-installed Windows 8 or upgraded to Windows 8 (more likely).

Of course - if 23GB is PLENTY of space for you - you might consider buying a larger hard drive.

  • Message received from "Disk full" so he was trying to install 2011.exe SRIM. I can see 933 GB of free space when I display the properties of the operating system (c :)) help, please!

Original title: received message 'disk full '. I can see 933 GB of free space when I display the properties of the operating system (c :)) help, please!

    New computer - Dell Inc. 05DN3X (CPU 1), MS Windows 7 64-bit SP1, processor Intel Core i7 930 at 2.80 GHz, 6.00 GB Triple - Channel DDR3 @ 666 MHz, 977 GB Western Digital WDC WD10EALX - 759BA1 (SATA).

    Problem:
Downloaded a program (32 MB) (SRIM 2011.exe) commonly used to work and tried to extract it to a new folder on the OS (C :) - received message 'disk full'.) I can see 933GB free space when I discover the properties of the operating system (c) - Quota is turned off.

Have used the program mentioned above (SRIM.exe) several times before using different operating systems XP to work without problem...
    Help, please!
    THX

Given that this was written in 2011, I'm sure you understood something at this stage. However, the post also has much a views, so I think it might be a persistent problem, so I'll post my solution:

When I copied the file SRIM - 20xx.e in a folder of SRIM-20xx under Program Files, I had a "Disk full" error when trying to extract the files, even though I had a lot of space on my hard drive and without limits. After a bit of messing around, I like the solution is to move the SRIM-20xx folder on the desktop, and then unpack it. After extraction, which leaves you with a lot of seemingly useless files, double-click CONFIGURATION and the installation will begin appropriate. Installation will create a file under Program Files, there will be no need to make things happen later, simply remove the meantime extract the folder to your desktop computer.

What is the certificate of authenticity for Windows?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-is-the-Windows-certificate-of-authenticity

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:

  • I didt create a disk recovery for windows 7 Home premium, and I lost the original and the recovery partition

I didt create a disk recovery for windows 7 Home premium and I lost the original and the recovery partition, but I have still the product key and the same laptop that was originally installed with windows 7 copy and now im turning my laptop with a fake copy, how to restore the original copy of windows 7?

    Hello

You have certainly reduced your options

The only legal Windows 7 download available is now Microsoft, as Microsoft has stopped DigitalRiver Windows 7 ISO downloads.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery

But Microsoft only provides these downloads for Windows 7 keys to selling product at retail, not preinstalled OEM product keys (Dell, HP, etc.).

As you have licensed preinstalled OEM (Dell, HP, etc.), contact the manufacturer of your computer to order recovery media that they need to provide for a fee, if they still have them available.

Or you can also borrow the same exact retail edition DVD of Windows 7 and use your product key to reinstall.

    See you soon.

    Hello

Currently, I have a laptop running Windows 7 Service Pack. Yesterday, 1 tried to download Windows 10 for more than 10 hours then turned to install for centuries. So, I stopped the installation. I wonder... can I know - is it normal to take some time to download and install Windows 10?

    Thank you.

    Task of pre-required

When you make significant changes to your computer for example updated operating system, you must always back up. See the links to resources on the backup by clicking the link for each version of Windows you are using: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times and try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Do a clean boot, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both and try the installation again.
    • If you update via Windows Update, when download reaches 100%, disconnect the Internet LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, and proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
    • If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account
    • If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).
