  My mid-2012 retina Macbook Pro running El Capitan (v 10.11.5) won't shut down or restart. Taken to the Apple store where they ran diagnostics on it and can't find anything wrong. Suggested I have reinstall the OS. I reinstalled, then backed up with Time Machine. The problem persists.

  I think I can get a report of incidents which may be helpful, although I've never shared before. To include or omit any information would be helpful.

  I would appreciate if anyone could help out... my mid-2013 13 "Macbook Pro became unusable. It is slow to start, slow down open apps, slow to react and the spinning beachball at any time, there is an action of the user.

  I can't attach the degradation to something specific, that I expanded my RAM several months to 16 GB, with no observable effect.   Here are a few steps you need to take before moving on to the latest version of Mac OS X.

  First, run the software update or the App Store and install all the updates available for the operating system you have now. The system must be in good working condition. Do not expect an upgrade of the operating system to repair a computer that is abnormally slow or unstable. More likely, the upgrade will make the problem worse.

  First comment: you attach a lot of RAM for external applications.

  On the PC, you allocate 2 GB of RAM per CPU and 4 CPUs, but you're only allocate 5 GB of total RAM for After Effects.  It does not match.  Allow at least 8 GB of RAM for AE, but preferably more.  I might try your PC to 12 GB for AE (4 GB for external applications) and see what happens. I'd probably also 6/8 CPU cores.

  I don't know if that's how it is supposed to be or not. But I thought it would be a common sense that should the keyboard lit up as the Macbook Pro lights up on the login screen, but this one isn't. I wonder if this is supposed to be having no light until I logged in? If not, then how can I fix this to where the keyboard will be turned on when I turn on my Macbook Pro?

  Your saved apps and files are stored on the hard drive.

  That said, it is always advisable to back up your computer before performing any type of software or hardware upgrade.

  What is the best bang for the buck? Where would my money better spent? Should I treat with a non-retine and push the SSD for somewhat better habitability or get a new Headrush?

  Oh, and in terms of how to use it? Mainly FCPX, which is not too bad now, but if I ever want to throw first or After Effects on here, it takes at least as RAM. Games is saved for my turn to Windows.

  Your mention of an optical drive tells me you have a MBP non-retine.  PCI and PCIe SSDS are NOT compatible with your MBP.  You can install a card standard 2.5 "SSD in your MBP and still experience a significant increase in performance.  I suggest OWC SSD and Crucial.
