16 GB of ram in my XPS17 (L702X) NO 3D

Hey everyone, I got my XPS 17 (L702X) NON - 3D for several months and she benefited so far. When I bought it I ordered it with 4 GB of ram with the intention to go to 16 GB. I was told by 3 different people of Dell, when I was ready to move to 16 GB of ram, I would have no problem. Later, as everyone knows, this was not the case, only the 3D version had 4 DIMM RAM. So when I got my laptop, one of the first things I did was put in 8 GB of ram and it happened very since.

Recently, I received an email from Newegg on a "FRIDAY ONLY: ULTRA-SECRET Black Friday Deals!" which adds that they had some CORSAIR memory 16 GB (2 x 8 G) DDR3 1333 for sale. When I got my laptop I searched 2 to 8 G sticks and could find anywhere I was really supprised when I've seen elsewhere. I went ahead and ordered it, because it was only on sale for 24 hours, I thought that if it didn't work I could send back or ebay it. Anyone know why they would not work? Thank you

I have this laptop, only two slots using 2 8 GB DDR3 SODIMM and non - 3D version.  They are adapting PATRIOT sticks.  It works fine and no problem with 16 GB of Ram.  The specifications of the Intel chipset says it supports up to 16 GB and it is true when you use 2 or card mother connector 4.  Honestly, I have not tried 4 sites with 8 4 GB SODIMM because my system on a both.  I also have this work with two external displays and the screen at the same time internal.  I started with them all connected and it works using the 555 M Nvidia card.  Intel turns off.  Best laptop ever.  I like it.

  • XPS17 L702X 4 beep code when the 2nd module of RAM is installed

    Hello

It started as a month ago, when I tried to boot my laptop but instead, I was getting this code 4 beep (RAM read/write failure). What I did then was remove/switching modules memory until I found one of them did not (the one on the DIMM A slot). So, I order the new RAM, install it and laptop works very well for about two weeks.

Just today, I tried to start and got the 4 beep code again. Same old same old: remove a module, test, replace the module, test... but this time, whenever I fill the slot DIMM A laptop does not (4 beep code of course). Can I use any of my RAM sticks DIMM B and the computer works perfectly, which means that my memory sticks are bad.

I would be grateful all the ideas,

    Thank you

    -Pablo

FYI, I have 3 modules of 4 GB of RAM, 2 of them are the Corsair RAM I bought recently and the other came originally with the laptop (Hynix)

Sounds like a memory wrong - turned support, you will need to replace the motherboard.

  • XPS17 L702x Windows 8 drivers

I installed my L702x to Windows 8 and everything works well with the out of area or Windows 7 drivers however I noticed that Dell has listed all 8 compatible updates on the page Windows drivers and downloads for the L702x so I thought that I would like to download and install.

Well, more than 24 hours later, any attempt to download only the update files generates an error.

For downloads of single file, I get the error:

Sorry, the requested file could not be downloaded

Attempts using Dell Download Manager, I get a big red X and:

    File not found

Seriously? How is it, you must go through this every time as Dell messages of updates on the site? You would think that they would have expected strong demand for the files or just after the public of Windows 8 version and not the list of files as 'available' on the site if they are not actually on the server ready to download.

    Way to go!

    Please see my solution here.

  • What is the maximum capacity of the hard drive replacement for L702x xps17

I have a Dell xps17 702 x with service NOTE from the ADMINtag: maintain the label removed according to the rules of confidentiality > and get warnings from the race. More disk space. I had hoped 2x500GB tthat would be enough, but photos and your music take up much space.

What is the largest capacity of hard drives that I can put in my laptop? I would also change the boot disk for one SSD.  I looked on the Dell site for my service tag, and it offers only 640GB HDD 500 GB SSD, which is not sufficient. I can't find anything that tells me if there is a theoretical maximum capacity.  For example, I could put a 2 TB drive in?

Fits all current portable players that will be physically the system will work - to the 2 t the only drive that will fit is the Seagate/Samsung Spinpoint M9T.  It's the 2 only 9.5 mm t there.  All other readers 2 t (and especially more than 1 t) is 12.5 mm or more large drives that will not fit in the system.

  • XPS - L702X 32-bit drivers necessary?

Hello, anyone knows where to find the drivers at least networking, so I can update the window 7 ultimate in windows update... Reference Dell seems to think that eveyone wants to only 64-bit, and I don't have any software a lot of 32-bit software and 64-bit... I didn't know dell was off 32-bit of myself when I bought the laptop so now I'm stuck with no software but a very fast computer with nothing to do with it. This is the 17-2860 purchased in April 2012...

I think I need 32-bit realtek PCIe BE controller family driver and or driver 32 bit centrino 6230. ?

Why is dell so anti-32 bit?

32 bits is gradually removed on newer models as they have usually more than 4 GB of RAM. The 32-bit OS can use 4 GB of RAM. So if you have a system with 16 GB RAM and 32-bit Windows 12 GB is wasted.

Most 32-bit software can run on Windows 7 64 bit. It's perhaps easier to install a 32-bit virtual machine in virtualbox for software that will not run on 64-bit Windows.

I guess you are looking for the Ethernet driver, avoid the link. Use one on the site of Dell ftp under legacy network adapters http://ftp.dell.com/network/R306842.exe

You may be able to find a set of drivers for the OS 32-bit here (L702X) http://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/Laptops/XPS/XPS%2017%20 / under the standard category driver, otherwise see pilots legacy.

I guess there is only one slot (pinout) and it is probably welded in.

    No, they were serious

I'm about to buy a macbook pro. This is the model of 512 gigabytes, 3.1 GHz, 8 GB ram. I want to only install windows to play spintires and that would be it. If I install windows and steam then spin tires it will the macbook running slower?

rotating the tires to the requirements

    CPU: 2.5 GHz Dual Core
    RAM: 4 GB

If you install Windows using Boot Camp Windows wizard will use all your computer RAM, 8 GB, when you start in Windows. It's more than enough RAM for Windows and a spin the requirements that you have posted.

If you boot into OS x, OSX will use all 8 GB of RAM.

  • Font managers of the RAM and fonts

    Hi all

I feel that the ability to enable and disable individual fonts using font (font book or third party) management software is designed to eliminate RAM memory (or at least somehow the unloading of the treatment of the Mac).

I also believe I read that he mentioned somewhere that all fonts placed in the user/Library/Fonts location are always active in the RAM, and this is perhaps why it is important to not just throw hundreds of fonts in this folder.

    I wonder:

    -If above are true?

-If you use third-party font management software to disable a font placed in the folder User/Library/Fonts eliminates actually he RAM memory (as is probably for policies outside the system of appointed police records)?

-If none of this is true, then why even should we use font management software to disable or deactivate fonts - why not just let them all turned on if they are not in the RAM?

I want to make sure that I fully understand. I hope that this will help me make more informed decisions about my workflow of font management.

I'm under El Capitan 10.11.6, although I don't think that this specificity is relevant.

    Thanks for the informed answers!

I don't think you are quite correct, I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong but here is my assessment of the situation...

All installed or active policies are not loaded in RAM at startup because it would be than a useless on memory limited to Macs. System fonts will be loaded into memory as they are usually required.

I believe that certain police functions get cached, such as previews of the fonts that are used in some applications, these selection committees are often written cache files stored on the drive that I can tell.

Installation and activation of the thousands of fonts may cause some problems as apps may need to generate previews of these fonts - for example MS Word has its own custom selector of fonts that use the real font for names selection. Some design apps can analyze or search fonts when opening certain documents with the related font styles. Other applications such as TextEdit, Mail system use based Gatherer so that they benefit the plan puts large fonts in cache.

The reason of FontBook is to assist in the management of fonts. OS X uses the 'library' system to allow multiple levels of abstraction, by example/System/Library is for OS-level files (stuff own apples), / library of the third parties who rely on the scale of the support system, ~/Library for user specific files. There is even in charge of resources to be stored in/Network/Library for use with a server on a WAN.

Manage all this complex without a central application. In my view, that order preference is the user on the highest levels, so your own user fonts folder is selected on the system if you named the same way fonts. Part of the idea is also that you can export fonts in your own home library without affecting the other users of the system.

Third parties also have police managers this attempt to 'do the right thing' based on what documents and applications you use. These are for most major design offices that use custom fonts or is needed to deal with versions of specific fonts, variations and even if the fonts are licenses for specific customers etc.. Fonts dynamically loading & unloading can cause headaches depending on what software you use.

I do not think that average users need to think about fonts on OS X (beyond adding their favorites occasionally), you may be overthinking it unless you're in lots of design work.

If you are concerned about running out of RAM, you probably need to install more, get a better Mac or run applications less. Just keep in mind what OS X tent now to use all the RAM available most of the time if not what is the point of installing it?
