2 1 modem from comcast networks, cable ISP using 2 linksys wrt routers

I need to have 2 separate networks my comcast cable modem.

I expected to plug a hub 5 ports on the cable moden, then plug the wrt610n both the wrt54g in the hub. Seems that only routers will get an ip address assigned from comcast.

Is it possible to have a cable modem ISP and create two home networks with both routers linksys, so two networks independent serperate?

Network 1: i ' public use and family (wireless computer laptop Jane, domestic PC etc.).

Household/enterprise network 2: private and separate from the family public network (Wireless laptop / company PC, server multimedia not secure).

Thank you

Your ISP only allows you to have a single public IP (i.e. a single active internet connection) at any time. This is part of your contract. If you want to use two internet connections at the same time as you need to update your contract with your ISP. Then, you can use two public IP addresses.

Otherwise, it depends on how 'independent' you want. The best and complete separation of networks is exactly the way that you set up for the moment.

You can get a separation in chaining the two routers. A router default configuration does NAT (network address translation) which makes it basically on the side inaccessible LAN from the internet side except if you configure the router to do otherwise (i.e. set up the forwarding port or UPnP or similar).

So, you can connect a router to your ISP modem. The first router using LAN IP 192.168.1.1 and has the public IP address on the internet. All connected to the first router is your network 'public '.

Then, you change the LAN IP of the router address second of 192.168.1.1 192.168.2.1. On the side of the internet, the static value IP 192.168.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1 subnet and DNS 192.168.1.1 (or your DNS servers of the ISP, for example check the first router status page). All connected to the router second is "your" private network.

Because of NAT private network is inaccessbile from the network 'public '. Any connection to the private network must be initiated by a computer inside the private network. It's how any internet router protects the LAN from the internet.

Of course, the 'protection' does not work the other way: anything either in the private network can try to access anything in the public network. With this type of installation you cannot protect the public network on the private network. But this kind of separation is usually enough for people.

There is a certain security risk for the private network as all internet traffic through the public network travel and the first router. The first router should be very well protected, i.e. use a router password very strong (instead of the default "admin") and the wireless should also be very well protected (i.e. use WPA2 with AEA and a password strong). The router password is the only thing that protects the router configuration. There is no other coverage, on the side of the router LAN, for example there is no locking if you are trying to connect with the password three times. Thus, the web interface of the router with the password is vulnerable to brute force attack or dictionary. If someone is able to decipher the router password from the first router, it is possible to Flash a custom firmware to analyze all your traffic network, including the internet traffic of the network private. Maybe it's a more theoretical security threat but you should keep in mind that it is possible with this type of installation.

If you want to have separate private network, as well from the public network, you can use three router configuration, i.e. the modem connects to the first router. First router connects to the router to second and third. Now the 'second' and 'third' LAN are entirely separate. The security risk that is mentioned on the first router remains valid.

However, there may be some disadvantages with chained routers: first light passes through two routers. If a router is slower, then the second, it can slow down all of the network connections. For example if you have 50 Mbps internet connection and one of your routers can handle 25 Mbps internet high speed, then all through this router won't be able to use the full speed of the internet. You need to test if there is a problem in your case.

Furthermore, some people have problems with disconnects or Internet unstable when you use a router chained configuration. It may be necessary to restart your routers to get again to the internet.

  • How can I set Up Airport Express with an existing router/modem from the ISP

I have a wireless modem/router ISP and I want to get the ability to use Air Print using a non-Airprint but the USB printer. I suggest you to connect the printer to the Airport Express A1392 Epson) via a USB port to enable the AirPrint features.  However, I guess the Airport Express must be an ethernet to the modem/router ISP connection and then use the Epxress airport more convenient than my wireless router.

    Issues related to the:

    1. do I need to turn off the function the ISP router's wireless when I plugged as stated above? So I wait.

    2. as the Airport Express only has one ethernet port I assume that I can connect my other ethernet connections using a hub 4 ports connected to the Airport Express Terminal.  It will be always possible to use other ports ethernet on the modem/router ISP as well?

    Doug

I have a wireless modem/router ISP and I want to get the ability to use Air Print using a non-Airprint but the USB printer.

You may have received incorrect information, because a non-AirPrint on the USB port on an AirPort Express Terminal... or any other router from Apple also printer... do not make the AirPrint-compatible printer.

You want to continue nevertheless to check that this is true?

The AirPort Express can connect to the network wireless router using a wireless connection... or... it can connect to one of the router's Ethernet ports using a wired Ethernet connection.

Wired connections are always preferable wireless if possible for your Express.  Turn off the wireless router is not necessary if you want to connect to the Express using an Ethernet connection.

    Hello Verashanley

    Since how long did begin?
You have added a new software or hardware to the system?
If the issue took place recently then you can try the system restore.
If you have recently added anything to the system (hardware or software), then remove.
If the system restore does not then check in Device Manager and verify that the network card is considered and no errors appear.
To open Device Manager, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click performance and Maintenanceand then click System. In the hardware tab, click Device Manager.
Check the type of network card you have and that you try to update the drivers from the hardware manufactures Web site.
Also, check the connection for the network adapter. Do you see any physical damage. When you plug the NIC saw all the lights on the network card lights up? If not, then you can deal with a hardware problem and need to contact the manufacture of the system and see about obtaining the card replaced.
Let me know the results. Thank you.

A router is a device that connects computers (or other type of computer
devices) to each other on a network and you can send files
from one computer to the other. It does not connect to the internet, and
you need a device called a modem vaguely to do this. The modem also
connects to the router and allows the computers on the network
(those connected to the router) to connect to the internet.

However, note that there are some available devices that are
router-modem combination. If your router is of this type, you do not have
    need a modem.

  • AirPort Extreme can disappear from the network

I have an airport Time Capsule 802.11ac 3 TB, implemented as my router, connected to a cable modem Comcast.  I also three units AirPort Extreme 802.11ac connected via an Ethernet cable and configure in Bridge mode.  The settings were all made with Apple AirPort Utility, using the default settings.  All devices are new, and have the latest version of the (7.7.7) package.

My problem is that one of the SSA keeps disappearing from the network.  The AP utility shows all devices, but unity of the 'room' is still "missing in your network.  When I restart the device by unplugging the, the unit seems to work fine for a little while.

Because the problem occurs on a unit, I think not that it is a question of ISP or OS.

Has anyone else had a problem like this, and understand you?

    It is not uncommon.

    1. your names are too long and contain spaces.

Use any short names, without spaces and pure alphanumeric characters. Names must be less than 10 characters... all names... both network name.

See Pondini for questions that arise with more long names... and that was before Apple changed network SMB.

    2. the WAN port on the AC model TC and AE are not reliable.

In bridge, what do you do better move the connection to one of the LAN ports...!

    3. you have an unreliable ethernet cord or if it is installed in the wall a bad Jack which is down to... This happens especially in that self installed ethernet... and even the ordinary electrician has problems... sometimes wrongly wired a pair of broken. You should test all ethernet correctly and make sure have full gigabit connections.

    4. use static IP via both a dhcp on the TC and AE reservation jumpered on the internet tab. Least IP moves the less work THAT DNS must do to stay.

  • SOLUTION for your HP printer disconnect and/or constantly disconnecting from the network

If you are having a problem printing, scanning or fax with any HP printer because of this be disconnected and constantly disconnecting from the network, here again is the fix!

I thought that this all after several failed attempts with HP Support, my Internet access provider and various troubleshooting tasks including reinstall the HP software and more and more.  Well, through self teaching on internet and exhausting search for 6 months, I FINALLY thought to it.  OMG!  I'm a paramedic (not IT) and a little computer but far not an expert.  I have all of you here!  Nobody seems to have the answer, but I'm sure that I'm doing it to 97%.  Whatever it is, if it please answer and let me know that it worked for you!  :-)

It doesn't matter if your printer is installed cable or wireless.  You don't reinstall your software, no recycling power of your printers or your router/Modem.  Your printer is unstable on the network and continues to log out or disconnect from the network it is NOT because the software is glitched, it isn't a firewall problem by saying, is not a router problem, is not a problem with your power cord, because most networks use a 'Beach' and IP addresses for security reasons This kind of "cycles" the IP addresses of the devices to reduce the risk of an attack.  A printer is not a threat, but the 'network' don't own human intelligence, so he does not know this.  Here are my step by step instructions on how to basically your printer address IP (static IP) instead of change back through a cycle so drop your printer on the network or disconnected.

Funny, if you're someone who has had the elements in your print queue, they will not print, and you turn your printer off and on again and suddenly your print... well documents, join my club.  The reason it works is that when you turn on the printer, it starts with the same IP address before cycle.  If you are someone who is sitting there for a while and all of a sudden your printed documents without changing you something... it is because through the cycle of change of IP address, it hits your printers IP address and the network would allow him to print.  Not very funny, I know.  It took me forever to figure out why my printer would print sometimes, but not always.  Since I thought at this point, I can SCAN, PRINT, and use all the features of my HP software installed like HP, Photosmart Essentials Solution Center.

On your printer, go to menu/Setup/network and press OK.  In the network menu, print a "network configuration page" so you can see the IP address and other settings of your printer.

Now, back to the main menu on the screen of your printers.  Or you can go to your web browser and type the IP address using decimal numbers too and this will take you to the web page of your printers.  Choose: setup\network, then press OK.  Look for the IP settings and press OK. Choose "manual" instead of "automatic". Manually enter the IP address it as well as the default gateway that you can see the Network Setup page you printed earlier.  Note: If you manually set the IP Address of the printer, make sure that it is outside the range of your router's DHCP. Otherwise you might encounter a problem with IP addresses on your network duplicate. (If you don't know how to do this, write back and I'll explain).  Don't forget to click "save changes".  Now, restart your computer, and print just what you want.  :-)

A trick I often use with DHCP network printers:
In printers and faxes, right-click on the printer and select "Properties".  Click Add a new port.  Choose standard TCP/IP port configured for the host name of the printer. Read the host name of the network printer configuration sheet.

Using my method means that you always connect to the printer even if its IP address changes (which can happen with the dynamic configuration). This does not jeopardize the security of your network.  It shows just your printer to stay put and stop traveling the highway of IP address.  :-)

The DHCP range is the range of IP addresses that the router distributes automatically as devices to join the network.  The DHCP range is determined by the router and each brand has a range that is set at the factory (which can be changed by you).

Default value for the DHCP of your D-link is 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199.  Thus, outside the DHCP range est.2 a.99.200 a.254.

Is a handy cheat sheet attached.

You can change this interval by entering the router settings page - type the router's IP address in a browser, enter the login information and access the DHCP parameter area (varies depending on router, hunting around).

  • Startup gets "Network cable unplugged" on (new) wireless mini-PCI card

Repost in the previous topic was locked, but has not been resolved. Original post below, please see previous post for more details

I recently installed a Netgear DG834GT wireless router and now have intermittent problems connecting my Tecra 9100. If the 9100 has been off for awhile (like overnight), when I restart I get always "Network cable unplugged" for the wireless connection. Reboot several times (anything from 3 upwards) I finally get connected to the router and everything then works fine for hours. Even a quick restart at this point (that is, once that the wireless adapter is connected) does not cause a problem, but as soon as I leave the stop of the machine during a time he fails again on restart.

There are no errors in the event log.

I am using wireless mini-PCI cards and have already updated to the latest version of the driver.

Any ideas gratefully received, for now every morning is a 20 to 30 minutes of rebooting frustration trying to get my connection work.

    (Running Win2K professional)

    Hello

I have the same problem if I stand for laptop and access point at the same time. If the access point is already in use, the connection is established shortly after. First the access point must establish a connection to the modem. Now the wireless connection is not available.

I guess after the second reboot, the connection between the AP and the modem is already finished and you can use the network wireless successfully.

    Good bye

  • Problems connecting to internet - says network cable disconnected, not sure I have the correct driver installed.

Had a big storm - got the new modem.  but they said that my drivers where missing or damaged.  Downloaded Marvell Yukon of gateway - to the GT5432 model. Always says cable unplugged network. However, Bishop says peripheral device works correctly. Don't save: no update-unable to connect to the internet.  I uninstalled and reinstalled; rebboted, etc. - still nothing. It has a problem with the PCI connection - no driver, but I don't see anywhere to down load or know what to download. Oh and another adapter on - think 1394 - when I turn that on and off the wonder; It shows the signal for the 1394---400 and does not say his unplugged, but still can not connect to internet.
The "old" computer to try to find information; noticed that said, unplugged network cable but it allowed me to connect to the internet. When I disabled the 'extra' adapter message there went, speed signal only at 100 than at the 'old' calculation is not any other PCI devices connection listed.

I'm not sure of what continues.

The 1st computer was working fine - then picked it up to move it to where it belonged to my office and that's when he went out-made no sense to me!

Because you seem comfortable opening your computer, have you tried re - a corner of the map (with power off, remove the card and reinsert it into the slot, be sure to exercise static precautions if you are in an environment of low-hu7midity).  If there is an empty slot, you can also move the map Marvell to another location.  See the comments below.

It's a long shot, because even if you did not provide the complete ipconfig output, the data that you have provided appeared to be normal, but...

Open network connections (start > run > ncpa.cpl > OK)
Right-click on the icon for your network adapter, and then select Properties
You should see a screen like this--> http://screenshots.modemhelp.net/screenshots/Windows_XP/Network_Connections/Local_Area_Connection/Properties/General/Index.shtml
    Issues related to the:
In the upper area, under 'Connect using' said 'Marvell Yukon 88E8039 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller?  If this is not the case, what does say?

In the second box, what are the items are listed under "this connection uses the following items"?

The only other thing I can think is that the Marvell Ethernet card was damaged in the same storm that got your original modem/router.

    *******************************************

According to Gateway, the GT5432 has 4 card slots:
    A PCI Express x 16 (GUI)
    A PCI Express x 1
    Two PCI Conventional

Your motherboard should look like this:

Orange, top, connector is the PCI Express x 16.  You probably have a video card in this slot.

The short white connector is the PCI Express x 1 connector.

Two more long white connectors are the standard PCI slots.

If I understand your installation, you should have the Marvell Yukon map into the slots of two down and your Agere modem on the other.  As long as you have the SMC1244TX PCI card, why don't just remove you the Agere modem or the card Marvell and insert the card CMS in one of the two PCI slots?  You are not using the modem and the working hypothesis is that the Marvell card does not work, so there is not much to gain by leaving a card in your computer.

Download the user guide and drivers for the SMC here--> http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?event=viewProduct&localeCode=EN_TUR&cid=9&scid=51&pid=238 map

Moreover, assuming that your open slot is the short PCI Express x 1 slot, you can buy another Ethernet card that will work in this niche: see--> http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100010064%20600016290&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=100

If I were you, I blow up the cheaper models and get the Intel EXPI9301CT $ 36 10 / 100 / 1000 Mbps PCI Express Desktop Adapter Gigabit CT.  Note that this is the same card with a similar name (with close to 400 customers) which sells for $29,94.  The price difference is because the cheaper "BLK" letters in the description, which means that it is "sold in bulk" and has no drivers, user guide CD or anything else in the box.  There are several negative comments from people who do not understand this difference and then had trouble finding the driver for the card on the Internet.

I found the problem (s), even if I am always left with a few questions.

During this process, I have disabled the firewall, but that did not help. However, I noticed 'tweaks' accessed via the tab 'Advanced' in 'Microsoft Firewall' which looked like, they must be checked in order to access the internet. I checked these and reintroduced the firewall. After I got things working, I unchecked them and things still worked so I obviously don't understand what these parameters.

    The solution:

    (1) I have to go straight from the modem cable to the computer. I can't have a cable modem, router wireless, computer, even if using hard wire, and even if this same configuration works with another computer. Also, I can't use a cable length to go from modem to the computer. So, it seems to have had a problem of cable length. Power problem? Only connected to this computer devices are the mouse, the keyboard and the Ethernet. Would not this be fixed with an upgrade of the power supply? Or is it due to the quality of the Ethernet hardware on the motherboard? It's a Dell Vostro 200.

    (2) in back and forth between configurations while following the problem, you must think to unplug the modem to reset between each configuration. You may have stumbled upon the solution, otherwise he's not shot. Also, I unplugged the cable from the modem when you reset data cable - do not know if it was necessary. • After a storm, my computer now says that a network cable is unplugged when plugged.

original title: a network cable is unplugged

There was a storm in our area recently and since then I can't access the internet.

I have cable internet via my modem which is also connected via my wireless router.  Both the modem and the router properly.  To make sure, I bi-passe the router and the modem directly connected to the computer.  I also bought new ethernet cables.  None worked.  My ISP says that there may be a problem with my NICK so I uninstalled and reinstalled and it still doesn't work.

NETWORK card: Realtek RTL8139/810 x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

    Modem: Aris Touchstone Telephony Modem

    Wireless router: D-Link WBR - 2310

    Thank you in advance.
