  I connected a new 500G portable hard drive to a front USB port on my HP PC (with an AMD Phenom X 4 image processor), under Windows Vista Home Premium.   A new drive must be formatted. That is why it is sjowing up as disc 1, unknown, uninitialized.

  It is not transferable

  How did you add it? Where's the hardware mounting hard disk? In any State of cause, assuming that you have installed a hard drive was bought, it would be empty and needs be initialized (mounted) and formatted. To find computer or this PC in the right click menu... Choose manage, disk management and you will see a Visual representation of the hard drives. It can automatically prompts you to initialize the disk. Once do you that and format it in ntfs and assign a drive letter and the name of the volume, it will appear in the computer as a lettered drive.

  If there is no second SATA connector on the motherboard it s not possible to install 2nd HARD drive because you can t add such a motherboard connector.

  As far as I remember there are other threads on A300 and 2nd drive HARD here in the forum and the point is that all A300 using the same case for laptop, but the mothers are different. So you can have a 2nd HARD drive Bay but not connector.

  I think it was just plugging in the cable needed to be reinstalled.

  I confirmed that the drve was good with an external cable.

  I made the stop while holding down the SHIFT key.

  Once it did not work.

  Then I took out the cable and put it back making sure to he went in the port exactly how is HDD - 1.

  This time, he appeared in the windows Device Manager. I already made the partition, format, assign the drive letter.

  Everything is good to go now. I'm glad, that I have a lot of storage space on my laptop.

  HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx Notebook upgraded to Windows 7 Vista fm. Try to add nine more fast (7200 RPM) HDD (Seagate momentus 320) 2nd drive Bay. Can hear both drives running. Doesn't appear in disk management.

I would use the 2nd internal hard drive of our mac mini server (end 2012) for storage (in fact, I'll things rsync from a remote server to here. but this is not the point here.).
