2nd optical drive, XPS 8700

I bought a 2nd optical drive that is the same model as the first provided with this desktop computer. It's a TSST SH-216DB.  How to remove the bezel flat black plastic on the front of the new command and then how do I remove the frame of the 2nd slot empty on the PC (which I guess goes down with a spring when opened as the 1st disc) and attach it to the new drive? Whereas when I'm actually, two optical drives look alike on the outside and work in a similar way.

Thanks for any help.

Thank you, Bev.

Yes, I review the owner's manual. What it does not cover becomes the front, flat, plastic front ("bezel"?) on my new 2nd optical drive (same model as my first original album, which remains in place) and then be able to join this new drive an attractive drop-down spring I assume (hope) is currently in the 2nd, empty the unit housing, so that the new player looks forward as 1 and works like it with a drop-down menu, attractive spring. I did not open the folder again, so I don't know if an attractive spring is here for the 2nd, currently empty location or not.

Can help you with info on the change of drawing the plastic on my new 2nd drive?

dcc197

Yes, it is already there and there should be an opening 2nd 5.25 "for the reader, what you need, is remove the metal plate 'Break-away '.

My experience with computers Dell optical drive 'Gate' of the flange spring is already here and there is nothing to do, except install the player, because when the disc is ejected, the optical drive tray operates the door automatically.

All you need, are two M3 X 1/4, phillips, or hex head screws are needed to install the drive in the Bay and a 18 "SATA data cable, it should there be spare power supply connector SATA already inside the case.

Respectfully that you remove the cover and the frame before checking things.

Bev.

  • Aurora R4 install 2nd optical drive

    Hello

I have the R4 Aurora comes with the drive BlueRay Combo DH-12E3SH. I want to burn a BlueRay disc so I tried to install drive BlueRay Asus BW-16D1HT. I encounter the problem that he recognise only one optical driver in the BIOS, even though I tried to swap the two optical driver, update to the latest version of two drivers and update the BIOS of the A10 A11.

I feel, there is something wrong with BIOS setup but cannot understand. I used the default settings now. • 2nd optical drive in HP 700-074

    First time poster.

I more or less decided on the HP Envy 700 - 074 as my new computer. My question is this:

I would move the Blu - Ray Burner I have in my current system in this new model, but the eject button on the drive is at the bottom of the unit, instead of just above the bottom, as it is in most of the readers. I had to remove the slab to my Dell for this player, because he would not contact with the eject button.

I'll be able to use this disc in the 700-74, or do I have to buy another drive that has the well-positioned eject button or buy an external hard drive?

    Thanks for any input.

    Clay

As the eject button is in a different position (thanks, LG), using Windows to eject the disk is an option. The player is around 5 years, however, and I have my eye on a nice USB 3.0 external drive, so I can go that route.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Hello

I installed a Segate Barcuda 3 to hard drive as my 2nd HDD in XPS 8700. I connected the Sata 2 port (sata 3).

In the BIOS, I can see that, under SATA 3, there is a 3 TB drive. But, when it comes to Windows 8, OS does not recognize it. In this regard, any help is appreciated.

For Windows to recognize the second hard drive, it must be partitioned, formatted, and received a letter from reader, using Windows Disk Manager.

But the new '' runs on Windows 8.1.  I can't upgrade the old hard drive to the old computer died. Someone at - it ideas how I can get my info from my old to my new drive?

I tried to install the old disk until the 2nd hard drive but the system does not recognize it.

    Any help would be welcome.

    Thank you

Hello and yes I have an answer.

Also, I had a second drive win 7 ult and it went out to install in my new 8700 XPS thing is that I already formatted the disk to work to the point 8.1. He came to light, a UEFI system installed, may fail to start if a secondary drive is attached that contains logical partitions. Of course, this should be an MBR disk configured, but if it has at least one primary and one extended partition, it will stop Windows 7 and Windows 8 start.

To correct this test facility 2nd main drive, then use a boot disk to get the computer running then access the disc to remove files.

  • XPS 8700 2nd hard drive Bay access

I want to install an SSD in my Dell XPS 8700 system. Once I opened the side panel, I noticed there was a Bay that said second hard drive. Exactly how you can access this Bay? You cannot mount the drive, sliding to the rear, because the power supply works in the way. Then of course, she must cross the front. You physically remove the front panel of the computer? I hate doing this, because something always breaks i.e. clips, some son gets snatch etc. I guess I could remove the power temporarily.

    Thank you

Please refer to page no. 40 in the link below to remove and replace the secondary hard drive on Dell XPS 8700.

  • XPS 8700: Issue of drive configuration

On my 8700 XPS running Windows 7, I intend to use an external drive connected to one of the SATA motherboard ports eSATA occasionally, but the external hard drive is not permanently attached and running.  Which of these wirings of disk configuration is not OK:

    Scenario one:

    • SATA 0: hard drive
    • SATA 1: eSATA, but normally no drive connected.  Sometimes an external drive would be attached. (this should be enabled/disabled in the BIOS every time?).
    • SATA 2: optical drive

    Scenario 2:

    • SATA 0: hard drive
    • SATA 1: optical drive
    • SATA 2: eSATA, but normally no drive connected.  Sometimes an external drive would be attached. (this should be to be enabled/disabled in the BIOS everytime?).

    Thank you!

    Hi Lone Star,

It should make no difference. However, you can assign a drive letter on the external drive, so it does not change other drive letter assignments when you connect the eSATA drive.

  • Adding a DVD - RW drive for a XPS 8700.

I just bought an XPS 8700 provided with Windows 7 (my choice) and one disc of 12 x DVD - RW. This machine replaces a decade old Dimension 8400.  I want to add a second DVD disc to avoid the shuffle of disk by making copies.

The last time I did was when they were still using old PATA drives where the drive data cable was the old ribbon cable and you used a splitter to the power cable.

I have never installed a SATA drive so I have a few questions.  When I order my second drive, what wires I need to complete the installation - or is all the wiring already in the computer?

One last question is the format used in the 8700 XPS and how to remove the coup de grace in the drive Bay?

Thanks for any advice - Tom

You need to buy a DVD/RW SATA drive 5.25 "similar on the drive shown here:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16827106289

A data SATA 18 "cable is necessary, there should be a spare cable/power connector SATA inside of the case for a second optical drive.

One end of the SATA data cable is connected to the optical drive and the other to a SATA connector located on the motherboard [page 13].

Two 6-32 X 1/4 screws are necessary to install the drive in the Bay.

The installation procedures of the player can be found here:

You can use the same instructions as given for the hard disk, on page 42.

  • DELL XPS 8700 - adding a new hard drive

    Small question:

Is it possible for me to add another internal hard drive of my computer XPS 8700? If so, other than the new HDD, is there other additional parts that I need to buy?

    Thank you.

You should be able to, you may need to buy an additional SATA III (6.0 GB/s) cable to connect the drive (if the drive you buy is not equipped with a cable. Also, until you buy make sure that you have a SATA port on your motherboard.

    (2) the MBR, this storage 5 TB disk boot disk will be TPG. Do I have to keep each partition of the disk of 5 to less 2 TB or I can exceed this size for one or more of the partitions?

    Hi I456kle9p,

Yes, it should work provide your Intel RST is the latest version. And with GPT, you can keep one big partition. Worst case, a car cheap controller will allow any player to work.

  • XPS 8700 adding Second hard drive

Hello - I bought recently for a XPS 8700 and I would add a second 1 to HDD - like this:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16822148840

This HARD - ST1000DM003 - drive looks identical to the factory installed HDD in my XPS 8700 - SCSI\DiskATA___ST1000DM003-1CH1CC47

Is - this HARD drive identical or close to my OEM HARD drive?  That's fine with me.  I didn't need a lot of space - just need a backup disk.

1.) do I need a HARD drive caddy any?  I did not open the folder again. I do not believe after looking at manuals online, but wanted to be sure.

2.) these screws will work to set up the second HDD in the cage?

3.) cable SATA which should I buy?  Manufacturer, length, type, etc.

4.) is feeding OK with respect to capacity with a second HDD?

    Thank you. !  Sam

Update - I installed the internal hard drive, which I purchased from Newegg.  8700 XPS recognized the drive.  All I had to do was to format the drive.
