DELL XPS 8700 - adding a new hard drive

Small question:

Is it possible for me to add another internal hard drive of my computer XPS 8700? If so, other than the new HDD, is there other additional parts that I need to buy?

Thank you.

You should be able to, you may need to buy an additional SATA III (6.0 GB/s) cable to connect the drive (if the drive you buy is not equipped with a cable. Also, until you buy make sure that you have a SATA port on your motherboard.

Hi, I have e9180t and I'm considering adding a new hard drive.

Can my office manage 3 to/6.0 GB/s 64 MB Cache SATA internal hard drive?  I get my full performance out of it?

I read the possible combinations (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01817977 specification page

Is there a limit to the capacity of the hard drive?  (up to 2 TB)?

    Can handle a 6.0 GB/s transfer rate?

I currently have 2 hard drives in the following:

    1 TB - Barracuda (st31000528as) 7200 RPM 32 MB SATA 3.0 GB / s
    500 GB - Maxtor DiamondMax 21 (STM3500630AS) 7200 RPM 16 MB SATA 3.0 GB/s

If I buy 3 to/6.0 GB/s hard drive and use it as a hard drive, will I use these two hard drives as a secondary hard drives?

    Thank you!

For those who might be interestd, this is what I found after some digging and calling:

Since the motherboard that comes with e9180t (ipmtb-tk) is SATA 2, its speed is limited to 3.0 GB/s.   When 6.0 GB/s hard drive is connected, the speed will slow down to 3.0 GB/s.

You can only use the full 3 TB capabity if your motherboard bios has opportunity to support UEFI interface.  However, most of the motherboards built before 2011 doesn't have this option.  ipmtb-tk is one of them.  However, there is a work around.

    1. go in the bios and check that the interface is set to AHCI (non-RAID).

    2. when the disk partition is loaded, you will be able only to the 2 TB partition.  another partition 750Go seems a separate partition that you cannot change.  Partition the 2 TB the way you want to and install Windows 7 on it.

    3. after that excavation is done, download Seagate Disk Wizard.  Later one of their homepage did not work, however.  You must download this one:

    http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/downloads/discwizard/DiscWizardSetup-14382.en.exe

I don't know why they don't have this default link on their home page when you go to download DiscWizard.

Once the wizard disk is installed, it will pick up the 750Go that you weren't able to before partition as a new drive and now will allow you to partition.   (Keep the MBR instead of TPG setting, format it to NTFS)

Once you partition using the tool, Viola!  a new drive with 750 GB of space has been added as a new drive.

  • Adding a new HARD drive

Never have cloned a tough, a few questions.
My computer is a Dell GX620. The current HARD drive is a SATA 80 GB. It is shown as drive 0 in the BIOS.
I want to install a 160 GB SATA HDD and clone the content of 80 GB (about 30 GB) on the 160 GB drive.
I am aware to configure things in the BIOS to enable the SATA port to recognize the new hard drive.

Y at - it a particular order as to which HD goes first and the second on the power cable?
Will be the 80 GB hd still remain as main, even after cloning?
I guess I need a clone pre-installed for this program?
    Bill Noyes

You will have problems if you try to clone with two drives internally and then Exchange.  The way to proceed is to clone via a cable of usb drive and then close and install the new largest disk in place of the old drive.

  • Adding a new hard drive for HP Pavilion 15-E016TX

I own a HP Pavilion laptop 15-E016TX... n I was wondering if I could add an additional hard drive...?

it dosent matter if its ssd or the regular disk... I neeed jst little more space

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

There is no space for a second hard drive somehow "ordinary". There no second SATA slot as in the Pavilion 17 inch models or for a smaller drive of WSSD mSATA as in the Envy series. The only way to do it is to remove the optical drive (DVD burner) and install a second drive in an optical drive adapter device. Your laptop uses the slim type optical drive (9.5 mm) and this device would not work.

    https://www.jacobsparts.com/items/HDDBAY-02/

See Page 47 of the manual for instructions to remove the existing DVD player. It is very easy. You can exchange your façade above so that no one could say that the laptop has been changed. I almost never use my DVD burner on my laptop, anyway. But I also never fill my hard drive. You have it fills a terrabyte? You cannot unload some of them to an external drive or the cloud?

If you do, just put a hard drive into the adapter and plug it in. The seller, jacobsparts, also sells portable hard drives and would be happy, I don't know to send you both in a single shipment. Disclosure full jacobsparts is in my hometown and I bought some stuff from them years but have no interest in the company. They are good people, I can testify.

  • Clarity on a Dell XPS 8700 with 2 TB SATA + Intel® SRT 32 GB SSD Cache harddrive

    Hello

I am buying a Dell XPS 8700 with a SATA hard drive with a 32 GB SSD cache. I want to know if the SSD is a separate physical disk SATA hard disk, it will be the M.SATA chip on the motherboard.

Please it is confirmed; I can by adding a larger 256 GB internal SSD, with the o/s re installed on the SSD with HDD as storage of 2 TB.

    Best regards & Thanks Sean

    Hi Sean,.

Yes, it's an mSATA SSD and scalable. You have the option to install the OS on a bigger mSATA SSD if you choose to do.

  • Added raw lun mapped as a new hard drive, but VM does not see it.

ESX 4.0 with two Windows Server 2008 virtual computer running.

Created with SAN volumes and put at the disposal of the ESX host.

I went in with my client vSphere virtual machine settings and added a new hard drive > mapped raw lun, stored with VM, physical and everything seems to set up correctly after hitting good. I also increased the size of the other two disks on this virtual machine. I rebooted the VM and connected to the server to find that he does not see the new drive, or he does not see the new size increases for other readers. I rebooted the host and yet, nothing new.

What have I done wrong? Why these changes are not recognized by the virtual machine?

After the increase in the size of disk or adding new disks, you must go the the VM Windows disk management and resize or format/partition/boot disks.

  • XPS 8300: Install new hard drive 3 TB BSOD results after imaging but not after Win7 clean

I have a XPS 8300 and the original Seagate 2 TB hard drive is dead. Because being forced to install a new HARD drive, I opted for 3 TB and bought a WD because I had horrible luck with Seagate repeatedly.

Anyway, I installed the new HARD drive and booted from the Windows 7 64 bit Pro installation disc and attached my external drive to backup and choose the backup image to the new disk. It completed without error, but when the computer restarts, I get a blue screen of death with the 7B stop code. I tried to put the HARD drive in a box and attached to another computer, and all my image files are there so I know that the computer was able to write the image to the new HARD disk. How to fix the BSOD errors? I set to update to the latest version of the BIOS (A06) but always the blue screen. I tried to install the latest Intel drivers also and which does not seem to do anything.

Frustrated, I installed Windows 7 clean on this drive and I am writing this message from him. The drive appears in my computer as a 2 TB. Disk Management displays 100 MB System Reserved Partition, Partition C: of 2047 GB and 746 GB unallocated.

Why a new installation does not seem to work (I know that I would have to format the 746 GB to use it and to give it a new drive letter) but the imagery that the disc breaks down. What Miss me?

I've seen a lot of posts on using Intel drivers to solve similar problems. These drivers get breaths during the imaging process? Should they be installed before the imagery of the backup? (Thought that I did, but maybe I didn't do it right - their installation can be verified before the disk imaging?) Tried to call Dell and Windows support... am no where in a hurry.

    Hi LG1382,

You cannot start Windows 7 on a 3 TB drive. You can use it for data, but not as the system drive. Windows 7 can only start TPG on systems with BIOS UEFI, which does not the 8300.

  • Dell Inspiron 3520 - hard drive failure - how to install Windows 8 on the new hard drive

I bought Dell Inspiron 3520. My hard drive has stopped working completely. It was stated as dead hard drive by diagonstic center.

I have now bought a new hard drive but have lost data and windows 8 preload on the original hard drive. Dell did not provide any recovery disk for Windows 8 pre-loaded on portable hard drive. How can I then install windows 8 / 10 on my new hard drive?

The .iso image file official 10565 has only:

    • Overview of the House of insiders
    • Overview of the Insider Pro

Unfortunately, there are 5 editions of Windows 10 and so 3 are missing. If your key is not automatically entered and accepted, it's probably a simple language edition or edition N.

When Microsoft release 10586 - TH2 - 1511 Version they will probably have an .iso that contains all 5 editions in 1 .iso or alternatively 5 .isos distinct (I hope as the first case that it will make Windows installation much easier).

Just installed a new hard drive in a N5050 Dell laptop. I have no WiFi signal and the antenna is running. I guess that I have not installed a driver or something. I have the CD Driver provided with the laptop originally. There are only 2 choices for drivers. On East Realtek RTL81XX PCI - E card WLAN - I installed but it seems that this is not a wireless driver. It keeps saying that I have a loose cable. The other on the CD is 1525 Wireless Atheros WLAN Mini Card computers desktop, but when I try to install this one I get an error of installation DW: Setup cannot run on this platform. Please select package for your operating system. Should which driver I?

Hi all, hey just a note to say I've set. Since she had no internet signal I have download the drivers on a memory stick and then try to install on the laptop, but I kept getting errors in digital signature. What I ended up doing was restarted the laptop and press F8 to keep me my Start menu. Once there, I disabled the verification of signature. Rebooted and then the pilot had worked. Once I had a driver to work, I was able to connect to Dell, enter the number of my service and it looked all good drivers I need and install. After this, I restarted and press F8 and reactive the verification of digital signatures. It now works like a charm. Might have been a long journey around him, but I'm back in business. Thanks for all the ideas, they have certainly helped.

Depends on the model of WD drive. Nevere use desktop/laptop (green, blue) readers and do not use the NAS (red) drives. Only certain versions of readers RE are provided by WD to work on Dell DCs. So, if it's not a disc RE WD States are working on PERC controllers, and then use the readers of Dell. Also, for future use, don't order disks directly from Dell.
