2nd Z600 CPU installation

I have a HP Z600 workstation with 1 x E5570 cpu.

Can I install a 2nd type processor x 5570 on the motherboard?

What is the difference between E5570 and X 5570, and if so, which is best?

Thank you

Caspian Sea

The Z600 features of two processor on the motherboard ready to go, as with the xw6400 and the xw6600.  So, it is much easier and cheaper to add a second processor for the Z600 for a Z620 which requires a 'minimotherboard' separated to add to the top of the main motherboard before you can add a second processor.

Here is information on the naming conventions names to the processors, to the low position for E vs X:

/T5/workstations-z-series-XW-series/Z600-CPU-upgrade/m-p/6649124/highlight/true#M18367

I saw the HP list some X processors as an E processor when Intel and the rest of the world as a x lists... follow the convention of Intel and the surefire way to know exactly what processor you have is to take off the heat, remove the Processor heatsink, clean it and check its code sSpec laser engraved on the top of the processor stainless steel cover.  You must at least be comfortable with this process before thinking to add a second processor.  Dough thermal costs for both is useful if you have two processors.

Note the orientation of the processor before carefully remove you it... There is a corner triangular gold on it which is oriented to a corner of the plastic of the decision threshold, and you can see that, after that you turn to the top of the stainless steel on its hinge fixing.  After you have added the thermal paste very carefully put the processor down on delicate pins with it's interface.  I hold the processors North-South, not East-West... with North being the hinge of the hold down.  In lots of light here and note that tasks molded into the plastic of the socket to align with the edge of processor corresponding to tasks... together down gently, then check alignment, then close the hold down.

X 5570 has a single code sSpec, SLBF3, and that should be easy to find. It's a max 95W TDP processor and you can buy new Intel for about $1400.00 USD today.  Or, for about $35,00 or even a little less off eBay.  I only buy used Xeons and had a bad on about 50, and the seller has sent a replacement free of charge.

You want to match a heatsink / fan new / used eBay for what you have, and the part number will be on the radiator you have.  I recommend to use Noctua thermal paste, and only a nice little dab is needed to get a good thin layer on top in stainless steel before replacement and reassembly.  I extend it with a finger gloved latex in a circualr motion to cover the flat top surface, where was the laser engraving.  You want pretty thin... not so thin that they are able to see through, but close to that.  You screw the radiator on sequentially across, opposing live a few laps at a time, until they just gently... the bottom but do not turn the handle downwards beyond.  It is fine to do walks back and gently bottem them again to get all too tight 4.

Upgrade to the latest version of the BIOS first, and only a reboot may be necessary to work with the new processor.  The latest version of the BIOS gives you the last HP "microcode", a hidden part of some updates to the BIOS, and which includes the list of specific processors that HP has certified to work with your particular workstation.  For example, you might see a processor that works in your computer in one of the QuickSpecs, but if you do not list your BIOS firmware, it won't work.  I do not think that HP ever pulls a processor from the list of firmware when it moves forward with a workstation... compatible motherboards X56xx should be able to run all X55xx older processors.

Partners, it is important to know that there are two main versions of the Z600, with the latest version capable of running with some processors than the earlier version cannot.  By combining your second processor to exactly what you already have you don't need to think about this question, but if you want faster dual processor completely new, you will need to do more research in this forum about the revisions, which will be held with the two main motherboard reviews and the fact that you can use "performance" heat sinks if you go with the processors the "." more hot.

The last QuickSpec for the Z600 (v51) covers X56xx and processors E56xx... QuickSpec is for the new revision of the motherboard.  You can search in the HP to find their searchable list of all prior QuickSpecs and see which processors have been certified for your motherboard probably original review.  Based on this research, you can choose to move to two correspondents faster 95W X55xx Xeons, but only get those who are in the list QuickSpec from HP (and get the latest not if there are several codes sSpec) for everything what install you on.

Searchable QuickSpecs for Z600:

Later and probably the last, is v51.  The PDF link get you more later.  The HTML link offers you the most recent, but also a drop-down list in the upper right to use to go back in time:

http://WWW8.HP.com/h20195/v2/GetHtml.aspx?DocName=c04110961&search=Z600

From there, you can create a chart on all previous processors available and choose what you want.  I recommend doing a chart for only the fastest and the second more fast X55xx processors in each QuickSpec and check eBay for the price.  A step down from the fastest often gets you a large drop of cost.   If you do this work, please report it here to help others.

  • Update, Z600 CPU

I have the following HP Z600 and I want to upgrade to the current Intel Xeon E5520 processor to E5650, E5660 or X 5675 processors. The two basic questions I have are:

    • Is this possible?
    • If so, what exactly should I do?

Implicit in these two questions are:

    • The chipsets on the motherboard will build the latest processors?
    • Current heatsinks for E5520 processors will work or it will be necessary to replace them?

    Thank you

    Bob,

    Correct prefix of these processors is (x 5650, x 5660 and X 5675)

    No no model part
    x 5650 WG731AA
    x 5660 WG732AA
    X 5675 LB215AA

I also mentioned technical information below the means of these prefix.

    Letter prefix:

    X = Performance
    E = Mainstream (editing)
    L = optimized power
W = Workstation for up to 2 processors per motherboard.

The letters also refer to the numbers of power consumption of the processor in question. Note that the numbers associated with the letters are for Xeon "Nehalem"focus on the family and the older Xeons who use letter designations have different values of TDP, associated letters."

L = design power thermal (power draw scheduled with a 100% CPU load running a normal software) of 60 watts or less. These are the chips 'low voltage '.

E = 80 watt TDP. Intel refers to the Xeon 5500/5600 s with this prefix letter as the ' base' line, and thus, the draw of energy to sleep on these chips is often worse than any which of the other series of chips, despite the other chips may have a higher full-load power draw.

X = 95 watt TDP. These are the chips 'premium' as their TDP is not excessive that they are difficult to cool in a server rack, but their standby power consumption is much lower than the E-series chips.

W = TDP of 130 watts or more. What are the fastest Xeons and the hottest made and they are designed to be used in work stations and servers base cooling better than an average rack 1U or 2U server.

  • Pavilion dv6t-6100 Quad Edition (2nd generation) CPU upgrade

I have pavilion dv6t-6100 Quad Edition laptop with one of the 2nd gen i7 processors. What type of upgrades to the graphics card and CPU can I do?

    Hello:

Here is the link to the service manual for your laptop.  Intel processors supported are listed in Chapter 1, page 2.

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c02842252.PDF

Graph cannot be upgraded, except if the card mother set is replaced.  Support Intel motherboards with various graphics solutions are in Chapter 3, beginning on page 27.  You must also pay special attention to the fact that the jury is for a processor dual core or quad.

I would also add that the financial costs and monitoring of personal work to exchange the motherboard and the processor upgrade, would exceed the cost of buying another laptop with the processor and graphics card solution you're looking for, following the sale or your trade.

I got a Qosmio G20-139 and I want to install 2nd HARD drive. How can I go about it? I don't want to mirror the 1st HARD drive I just that it runs as a HDD separated for more storage. How do I set up and format?

I'm using WXP MCE any help received with gratitude, keep in mind, I'm no expert actually I'm a fool to the village that of been inbreeding so take me through in easy to understand steps that even I can follow.

    Hello

That s just to change the BIOS settings in the BIOS!
I think that the BIOS settings are placed in the last page of the BIOS (3).

Try setting the 1RAID-0 on the first HARD disk and the 2RAID-0 the second HARD disk.

It worked well on my laptop.

By the way; information on the RAID configuration found in the user manual.

    Have a nice day ;)

  • Additional CPU installation

    Hello

We bought a license for VMware Essentials and an extra CPU to add to our server. My question is this: should I install the license key before or after the addition of the CPU?

    Thanks for any info,

    Stem

I think it either is working fine.  I install the CPU, make sure that everything happens correctly and that the CPU is seen and then install the new license.

  • 2nd question of installation SSD

MSI MS-7525 mother HP Compaq Persario SR5410F-Boston map

I checked my BIOS settings to see if I have the opportunity to change SATA to AHCI settings for installing a SSD.

Under Settings Advanced SATA ony a 1 option, turn on or off there is no option for: SATA in the BIOS settings that allow him to be on the RAID, AHCI or IDE.

Flashing the BIOS is updated to version 5.22 (only update available), I now have this option for one SSD instalation?

    Hello @Larry1946,

I understand you are trying to install an SSD in your HP Compaq Persario SR5410F. Unfortunately, the HP Compaq Persario SR5410F don't have AHCI capabilities. You can still install the SSD on your system, only it runs in "IDE Émulation" mode, a kind of compatibility mode that replicates the functionality of the old interface ATA "Integrated Drive Electronics". While your SSD will not display its potential performance or be able to take advantage of all the latest features SATA, it will still be able to run on your system.

I hope that I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • HP workstation xw6200 model number: DU937AV 2nd Hard Drive installation

    Hello everyone

I am owner of a workstation XW6200 renovated with a HUA721010KLA330 of Hitachi (1.0 TB) 3 1/2 "7200 RPM SATA 3.0 GB / s. I still own one of these I would like to install in my machine.

I did years ago (my state of the art machine had a 1 GB HD at the time!), but things have changed since that time.

I'd appreciate your advice on how I should go about it.

Thank you very much for your help.

The manual States that you can have 2 Sata Serial ATA drives. See the Manual.

Refer to article 69 pg 19 and 20 for the Sata data headers. See pg 100 for the hard drive Bay.

The PSU has 2 Sata power cables, so all you need is a Sata data cable. Just imitate existing lead.

  • install an SSD in Workstation Z600.

    Hello

Description explains it, I thought to replace my current HARD drive to an SSD.

I did a lot research on this myself, but thought I would check here just wrap there are any falls known issues/pit with a ssd in z600 workstation installation, I will look at adding a 1 TB ssd.

    1. installation of the material? the 3.5 inch z600 caddy would not accommodate a SSD, HP sells racks that will fit the z600?

    2. compatibility with the workstation? are there types of SSD that are best suited for z600 workstations?

    3. how to install and set up? is it as simple as connect via a cable SATA SSD and installing the OS? The Bios settings?

    Any information would be appreciated,

    Griff

Installed a Samsung 500 GB SATA III Evo in my z600... and it works perfectly.

Installed last week and have been installing programs and saw the general use of it without any problem. I wanted to test properly before posting a reply. It would be possible that I have problems with it later, but I would of thought that if she had problems I would be this topic now.

My SSD reads to 282 MB/s and writes to 270 MB/s - write random shuffle (IOPS) (IOPS) 51612 47395.

Being a SATA II gen workstation his don't reach only the full potential of the SSD to 540 / 520 MB/s writing but reading what I read, you won't notice the difference even its so fast... and I accept CC suite, mozilla, (did not install 3dsmax yet) all boot in seconds compared to the minutes on the old HARD drive.

Just to note that does not use a HP recovery disk to reinstall the OS. I have used a .iso official windows 7 and booted from USB (although it has some things useful, I didn't HP bloatware) drivers installed perfectly smoothly. Windows serial on bottom of Tower

    1. installation of the material? the 3.5 inch z600 caddy would not accommodate a SSD, HP sells racks that will fit the z600?

"Via Scott comments, look for the version of"needs-tool"in the post above, mine cost £8.50 and takes every 5 seconds to fit the ssd for the z600. I would not buy the version of the tool-less sugguest... unless you have no hands and a lot of money. »

    2. compatibility with the workstation? are there types of SSD that are best suited for z600 workstations?

"Yes, they are HP approved detailed SSDs in, but the post above, I had no problem with the class of consumer SSDS, but you dice with what brand." The Samsung EVO 500 GB, no problem. You can use a SATA III ssd, but you can get questions as warned by HP as their firmware does not support certain types (so basically if it doesn't they don't help you) ".»

    3. how to install and set up? is it as simple as connect via a cable SATA SSD and installing the OS? The Bios settings?

"Make sure that your BIOS is set to RAID + AHCI (mine was already setup like that)." I used the samsung Wizard tool after installation and it will say that your PC is not set to AHCI, but I just ignore it. As long as ORGANIC and firmware are up-to-date, you'll be fine. Use a blindmate card to install the ssd (see above messages). Make sure you get the latest firmware on a USB before installing SSD, it should be the first thing to check after the installation of the SSD. You don't need to change cables SATA from II to III that the cables are retro-compatible... anyway have a SATA III in a z600 will limited you to speeds of SATA II (which compared to a normal HARD disk are ridiculously fast). Just plug in and install OS. It can be interesting to read about boring SSD, the magician of samsung suggest some things to do, but not all are necessary, either its life expectancy more performance... defintely deserves to be read to the top, if it's your first SSD as it was for me. »

Upgraded high hand the best I've done to my workstation and very simple to do. I'm glad that I waited for better support and cost down on the SSD before using.

You want to say a big thank you to Scott Harrison for his help on this. I nagged him much but really appreciated his advice! Congratulations to Scott and anyone else who posted help.

Enjoy your SSD, I'll do it.

  • Upgrade CPU laptop CQ60-211DX

I have a CQ60-211DX laptop.  It uses a processor Intel Celeron 585 2.16 GHz core simple.  It is a processor Socket 9.

I want to know if it is possible at this level to a processor Socket 9 better, such as the Pentium Dual Core or Core 2 Duo.  My main concern is what families of processor will support the motherboard.

My research so far indicates that the Celeron has a max of 31W TDP.  The Pentium Dual Core T3200 (2.0 GHz) and T3400 (2.16 Ghz) have a max TDP of 35W and the Core 2 Duo has a maximum TDP of 10 w.  So, the Pentium Dual Core would generate a little more heat than the Celero, but I think he might be able to handle the additional 4W?  The Core 2 Duo, on the other hand, almost cold.

The Celeron and Pentium have 1 MB of L2 cache, but the Core 2 Duo has 2 MB.  The Core 2 Duo has a pace much more slow clock (1.5 Ghz), but I understand that it is still faster than the Pentium with the effectiveness of the architecture.

I don't know how the FSB affects things, but the Celeron and Pentium are 667 MHz while the Core 2 Dio is 533 MHz.

There are several other statistics I do not understand.  A large part of the information I have just the pages that follow.  Also, I have confirmed with a representative of Intel Celeron 585 is, indeed, Socket P.

    http://Ark.Intel.com/compare.aspx?IDs=35583, 37160,33920,36681,

    http://Ark.Intel.com/search.aspx?q=socket%20P&t=ProductGroup

    http://Ark.Intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?series=28964

    http://Ark.Intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?series=23517

It seems that Intel does not often stated that a processor is Socket P, but Sockets supported including the PPGA478 seems to be what I'm looking for.  Not entirely sure, though.  There seems to be the T7000 and T8000 T9000 series processors that support PPGA478, also.

    http://Ark.Intel.com/product.aspx?ID=27255&processor=T7200&spec-codes=SL9SF, SL9SL

    http://Ark.Intel.com/product.aspx?ID=27256&processor=T7400&spec-codes=SL9SE, SL9SK, SLGFJ, SLGFV

    http://Ark.Intel.com/product.aspx?ID=27257&processor=T7600&spec-codes=SL9SD, SL9SJ

Although T8000 and T9000 models all have much higher FSB speeds.  Yet once again, I don't know enough to understand what effect this has on compatibility, so I guess I should stay with 667 MHz.

Finally, I guess the U7000 series is more advanced than any of the T series, but other TPD and VID lower voltage max quantity, all other specs seem lower (FSB, clock speed, L2 cache memory).

Soldering is not a problem.  I don't know if my processor is welded on or not (have not yet cracked open and will not until I know that it is worth), but even if this is the case, I have a soldering iron, solder Wick and the skills to remove the welding without damaging the components.

So what I've been able to reconstruct so far.  If someone could let me know which processors can handle the motherboard on my laptop, I would really appreciate it.  If someone could suggest what processors would offer the best performance gain, would be great, too.

    Thank you!

    Luke

    Hello

What follows is a listed one CPU upgrade CPU option for your product.

Processor Mobile Intel Core 2 Duo T5850 - 2.16 GHz (Merom-MV, at 667 MHz front side bus, 2 MB cache level 2 total, taken Micro-FC-PGA, 35W TDP, 65nm)

If you plan to upgrade limit you your purchase know CPU compatible and functional. This way you will save yourself the disappointment of an incompatible CPU installation.

As notebook BIOS do not have many options tweakable, which disqualifies basically anything but what the manufacturer offers for upgrades in option.

the CPU I have listed and linked to is probably the best you can do for your laptop.

    Kind regards

  • Windows 7 64-bit clean installation failure. Error code: 0 x 80070017

    Hello

I'm having hard to install Windows 7 64 bit on my desk that I had built two days ago. They do not have install my OS. they just put everything together. I go home, turn on the computer, start Windows and right in the middle of installation (file extension), the outage. I start the computer and start the installation, and after Windows copies the necessary files to develop, this error message appears: Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupted or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0 x 80070017. I looked at the answers related to this error code, but none seem to fit my situation. The operating system I have is an OEM System Builder Pack, which has a copy of Windows 7 64-bit. Anyone know what I can do? I hope that I have not buy another OS, because one I have is bad.

I had the same problem installing my win 7 pro 64-bit, had the same error code, retried a couple of times and was stuck to the expansion of the files windows to 72% the most. I was trying to intall with RAID, I abandoned, reinstalled windows XP home and pulled out one of the reader, here I reformatted the drive with windows XP that was ready to be installed, after the successful installation of XP, I then installed windows 7 and failed 2 times before expanding windows files is passed to 100% after it past this 2nd line in installation everything went well. You may need to make some changes in the configuration of the BIO.

    Good luck

  • Intel i3 use win. version 7?

    Good day people,

I have posted before, however, I have another question this time. I got a laptop HP 6560 b, w / an intel i3 2350 m, 2.3 GHz. He got the victory. 7 pro. Now, I now get a 650 HP.  It has a intel i3 2nd gen CPU @ 2.4 GHz. It is a model G4U96UT #ABA. Currently Win. 8 pro. Why I can't, (I CAN) format and reinstall Win. 7 on this system? Please, ANY input would be appreciated! Thank you!

    Hello

Thanks for posting in the HP Support forum.

Good news - you can install Windows 7 Pro.

-HP supports Windows 7 drivers for your computer

-If you have a Windows 8/8.1 Pro license, you are allowed to downgrade and use Win 7 Pro (if the license is not HP OEM, but full product FPP or Preinstalled)

Otherwise, if it is HP OEM lic for Windows 8, you will have a separate ICA for Windows 7, but technically Windows 7 can be installed and is supported on this computer.

Here you can download Windows 7 If you do not have the installation media:

  • G6 - 1191ev: HP Pavilion g6 - 1191ev

Hello everyone and thanks for the help with this forum,.

I am owner of a g6 Pavilion - 1191ev.  About two days ago, I was working on my laptop and suddenly it crashed it upward, frozen screen and it started beeping out of control, so I pressed the power button turned off, after waiting until 10 seconds it could possibly release. Later, I tried to turn it on again the phone but the Windows 7 to my laptop would not be responsible. A screen that says that perhaps a change on the material from the laptop or failure generally happened initially appears on the screen.

In addition, there are always two options: the first option (which is presented as the recommended) is to have the blackout which took place has been fixed by windows, but when I choose this option, windows is loaded up to a point, a screen lights up, it says on a black screen: "REM could not perform the screening because could not detect 2 hard drives on this system.

However, the second option suggests a normal load of Windows 7, as usual and this time loading led again in the first screen that appears with two options.

After a bit of research on the forum, I decided to run the "main hard drive than self test" on the configuration of the BIOS, and a mistake "305" appeared on the screen. I also ran the "memory test", which was adopted with success. When I select 'system recovery' on the menu of the BIOS Setup, then the same screen appears, like the screen which appears after the first choice of the option, with "2 hard drives.

So I guess, I have to change my hard drive no doubt, but I'd like to take your opinion too.

Is there something else I could sort to do before paying money for the new hard drive?

Also, in the event that unfortunately, I have to buy a new hard drive, on what must I pay attention when I'm about to buy the new hard drive? I noticed on some posts on the forum, some say that the new hard disk must be equal at least ability with the previous, but not below.

Also what type of a new hard drive do I need? And what are the parameters I should do after placing the new hard drive in the laptop, in order to get my phone working again? Should I buy something else than the drive?

I realized that the process of replacing the hard drive of my laptop is relatively simple. Is this fair?

Following are the features of my laptop:

    purchase country: Greece

    installed processor type: Intel

(As noted above) OS: Windows 7

Unfortunately my laptop is out of warranty HP since the October of 2011.

Thanks again for any help provided in advance!

Would be happy to hear your opinion about my problem!

    Hello

The error code that you mention - 305 is a scalable disk Self Test (DST) failure - would indicate that you need to replace the hard drive and this is also compatible with the startup problem you describe.

Regarding replace HARD drive, you are not limited to any particular drive manufacturer, but the recovery media allows you to reinstall the operating system on the new drive probably will not work on a drive that is lower in quality than the original - a bit larger is fine.  ( Note: this restriction does not apply if you choose the 2nd option of installation described below).

Your laptop is listed as coming with a 640 GB hard drive, but as there is no real difference in cost, you can replace with a 750 GB HARD drive and get a little bit of space - the player on the following link is an example that would be perfect for your laptop.

    750 GB hard drive.

The procedure to replace the hard drive starts on Page 54 of your & Maintenance Guide.

    *********************************************************************

Regarding the reinstallation of the operating system on the new HARD drive, there are two options available.

    1. You can order a set of replacement recovery disks using the link below - it will reinstall the operating system, all the drivers, and almost all of the original software (the exception being often tests of MS Office).  They will also recreate all of the original scores, including the recovery Partition.

    Order HP recovery disks.

    2. Another option, you might consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the Disk Image correct ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn offerings) to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write that an ISO on a disc is here.  The source of the Windows Image is Digital River.

    Windows 7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the label of the COA at the request and once the installation is complete, use ' 'phone Method' described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system -this made method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want to just have a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally comes with OEM installations.

    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-Windows-7-by-phone.aspx

You may need, additional drivers and software are here.

  • LabVIEW for linux (Ubuntu 64-bit)

University of Helsinki uses a centralized managed linux installation on all linux workstations.  The distribution is based on Ubuntu 9.10, and it is considering moving to 10.04 LTS.  Almost all of the facilities are 64-bit, only a few old machines (> 5 years of age) are still using 32-bit installation.

In the Physics Department, there are about 500 machines and about 30% of those who are linux workstations.  We strive to get LabVIEW for Linux installed on our desktop, then run under Ubuntu 64-bit.

1 problem (not a problem): For some strange reason, the installation media does not CD/DVD use normal files (iso9660) system, but the media is formatted with the file system "Mac OS X HDF +".  It works under linux, of course, but has been a source of mild confusion.  It would be wise to change the normal file system to the next version.

2nd problem: The installation under Ubuntu does not work.  Namely:

First I mount the media with the "mount-t hfsplus/dev/sr0/media/cdrom0" and try running the installation script
    CD/media/cdrom0/Linux/labview-2009
    sudo knew
    . / INSTALL

Installation is not going smoothly.  According to the error message, the script is not found the library libbz2:

/ Media/cdrom0/Linux/LabVIEW-2009/bin/rpmq: error while loading shared libraries: libbz2.so.1: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory

However, the library is in standard place:
    $ ls/lib/libbz2 *.
    /lib/libbz2.so.1 /lib/libbz2.so.1.0 /lib/libbz2.so.1.0.4

I know, "support of the distribution" list only include Mandriva, RedHat, and SUSE.  The version of LabVIEW is the latest version of the fall of 2009.  Does anyone have any ideas what to try next?

    see you soon,
    Pekko
