4 node RAC, and services

Hi all

We currently organize 5 databases on a node 5 RAC... 11.2.0.2 IG and a mixture of 11.2 and 10.2 databases. Obviously, services are defined for use by the application based on the load on each node.

I see something strange...

CLV1P_COMMON is a service created to run on the instance of CLV1P2, but in my tests over the weekend, the service went up on different node every time... Why is this behavior? Should it? My understanding is that the service should only run on the node that services... and where you specify PREFERRED in several instances, he uses them to chance... (load balancing)

Anyone can guide me please?

Thank you

    Hello

It depends on what you want to achieve.

If a service is running on 2 instances (command 1), while already connections between customer first are spread across 2 instances.
If a service runs only on a single instance (command2), then all connections of clients will be will to the same instance.

If the instance 1 fails, then the scenario will take place as follows:

1.) only 50% of users will recognize the failure and TAF will apply to 50% of the users. Users connected on 2 instance are not affected at all (almost... There may be an impact on the performance of small due to reconfiguration).
2.) will affect all users. But TAF will switch to the new instance (which can be ORCL2 or ORCL3) of all sessions

  • Oracle RAC and replacement of equipment

    Hello world

next year our Oracle RAC (hardware) servers will be is more supported. We have a 2 node RAC (SE) running on Linux 5. For you, what is the strategy easier (and safer) to replace the equipment:

    • Reinstall complete with database exports / imports.
    • Adding new nodes to the cluster with new servers and delete 'old' (but it seems that the same version of operating system is required in accordance with the documentation).
    • Clone of the cluster according to the Oracle documentation on news servers.

Thank you for all your ideas. I googled a bit, but I've not found much info.

    Carlos.

    • Adding new nodes to the cluster with new servers and delete 'old' (but it seems that the same version of operating system is required in accordance with the documentation).

It's what I strive for. If your time with new nodes in the cluster is short (less than 24 hours), and you stay on the same distribution (i.e. OL5 to OL7), then several times, this isn't a problem. If you still have concerns and do not feel comfortable with this recommendation, then I'll recommend another avenue. I often used it when I was doing something similar for the production system was too critical to take no risk.

    1. Up new servers in a cluster. You can even start with the version of grid Infrastructure more later/more big who can save a future update maybe you.

      1. It will take a new OCR and voting disk new configuration.
    2. Attach the storage shared on the new cluster. For a short period of time, you will have storage mounted to both old and new.
    3. Install the RDBMS software on the new cluster. Wear on all the config files you might need more... tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora, etc..
    4. When you are ready to drop the database on the old cluster, cutting on the new cluster.
    5. Use "srvctl database add" to add the database to the new cluster.
    6. Use 'srvctl add instance' to add the instances to the new cluster.
    7. (Optional but normally a good idea), use 'srvctl add service' to add services to the new cluster.
      1. Steps 5 and 6 above usually use the same name of db, same instance names, same service name.
    8. You now have the database running on the new hardware. Stop the old servers

The only other sticking point would be handling the SCAN and traditional VIP. When I made this drive, I usually my network guy change the SCAN VIP and traditional dignitaries to be alias in DNS that point to the new VIP.

If you do your homework and have everything ready to go, the downtime can be less than 15 minutes for this approach.

    See you soon,.

  • Connection speed slow on one node to a node RAC 2 put in place

    Hi all

Having a little trouble with one of the nodes in a node 2 CARS set up
We have sent traffic directly to the node in question (using a service that runs only on node 1)

Forced connection to this node (sqlplus) since an application server remote takes 3 times as long does if we force fitting to the second node RAC.

If I try to connect locally - connection speed is instantaneous-

There is NO problem with the server performance

There is NO problem with the perfromance instance / database - it is only noticed when the initial connection

I've been in the network of the node and can see nothing wrong - so I was wondering if there was anything you guys might have experienced while the connection time is slow for a single node only (949 ms - compared to 247 ms on node 2)

If anyone out there is interested or falls on this issue

The problem has proved to be the mount point options MP Linux Volumes

I had configured them as part of best practices for RAC / NetApp / Direct NFS - hjowever I also got the binaries for both nodes in order to have greater availability.

Thereffore I would have had the Mount for NŒUD UNIQUE options.

    The change was to

    -stop the instance

    -unmoiunt binary files

    -change the following on fstab

              NFS rw, bg, hard, nointr, rsize is 32768, wsize = 32768, tcp, to = 3, timeo = 600, actimeo = 0 0 0

    TO

NFS rw, bg, hard, rsize = 32768, wsize = 32768, to = 3, nointr, timeo is 600, tcp

-start the instance and repeat on node 2

#ASM instance on Cluster via Public Cluster SCAN, i.e. the new 11g method to connect to a cluster

    (PORT = 1521)
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ASM)
    )
    )

The good thing is that a TNSPING to my client to all the 3 entries above, succeed

Q1. Name of the Service don't know '+' i.e. that why for the + ASM1_VIP and _ASM_SCAN entry above, I could put neither ASM the SERVICE_NAME and not + ASM?

Q2. I presume that for the method of 10g - the name of the Service be indeed ASM and not ASM1?

Q3. If LAB4 should fail, my other node, LAB5, would inherit of the LAB4 VIP

    Thank you

    Jim

    Hi Jim,.

SCAN is for the client computer access to the clusterdatabase without having to know which server in the cluster is to serve the db. SCAN is for your normal databases NOT the asm instance, your customers do not need to access.

To connect to your instance asm on each node with sqlplus and get an output of:

    See listener parameter setting

It will show, that asm has local defined listener and will register with the listener node running on your virtual IP address. It will not appear an entry for the remote listener.

For your no - ASM databases, you will find set remote_listener parameter and pointing to SCAN listeners usually via an entry in the tnsnames like this file:

    MYDB =

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = your-rac-scan-name)(PORT = XXXX))

    (CONNECT_DATA =

    (SERVER = DEDICATED)

    (SERVICE_NAME = mydb)

    )

    )

    lsnrctl status

-> you will get the output of the listener node

    lsnrctl status LISTENER_SCAN1

-> you would give the output of the listener to scan if SCAN1 runs on the node of your ssh shell is sitting.

  • 2 node RAC - administrator managed on the basis of ORpolicy-managedDatabase - what is the best

We intend to build a GR 2 2 node RAC 11. I went through the documentation and found that datbase managed administrator is better when the number of nodes are very less.

Need your input on what we are still in the design phase of the installation.

    Shashi,

This all goes back to your goal. As you said, it's two RAC nodes and I assume that you will use this database cluster for a single application. If this is the case, then go with administrator managed the database because then you will have more control and be configured in less. Policy management is more useful when you implement a solution true grid where database is used as a service and multiple applications accessing data through services based on data provided within the system of large real application cluster. When I say database as a service, people may want to consolidate smaller databases in a RAC system to reduce costs and operational overhead while providing the same level of access to data for applications.

So to answer your question, go with administrator managed RAC. I hope that I have you provided enough information for your decision :-)

  • Routing connections via a single node in a cluster 2 node RAC

    Hello world

My client has the following requirement: a RAC cluster active/active (for example/node1 node2), but with only one of the nodes being used (node1) and the other sitting there just in case.

For things like services, I'm sure it's pretty simple - just have the value preferred on node1 and available on node 2.

For connections, I guess I'd just the VIP in order in the file of tns, but with LOAD_BALANCING = OFF, so they go through tns entries in the order (ie the node 1 and node 2), then this would allow even the vip failover if node 1 is out of service.

What sounds right? Did I miss something?

    Thank you very much

Why? What is the reason for a node ' + just in case + '- and how and when is "turned on" when this situation of just-in-case?

It is not much any sort of sense of sight high availability or redundancy.

For connections, I guess I'd just the VIP in order in the file of tns, but with LOAD_BALANCING = OFF, so they go through tns entries in the order (ie the node 1 and node 2), then this would allow even the vip failover if node 1 is out of service.

Does not work on 10g - may not work on 11g. The listener can and don't transfer connections, according to what say the TNS connect string. If you do connect not via a SID entry but through a SERVICE entrance, and this service is available on several nodes, you can't (and won't often) be connected to instantiate on only one IP address that you have used in your connection to TNS.

    Basic example:

// note that this TEST-RAC alias refers to a single specific IP of a cluster, and use
    // SERVICE_NAME as the request
    /home/billy> tnsping test-rac

    Used parameter files:
    /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/sqlnet.ora

Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST= 196.1.83.116)(PORT=1521)) (LOAD_BALANCE=no) (CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=shared)(SERVICE_NAME=myservicename)))
    OK (50 msec)

// now connecting to the cluster using this TEST-RAC TNS alias - and despite we listing a single
// IP in our TNS connection, we are handed off to a different RAC node (as the service is available
    // on all nodes)

So we have connected to the node RAC 196.1.83.116 - and this listener we handed over to node RAC 196.1.83.127. The GR 11 2 earpiece seems to behave differently - it does not have a transfer of work (based on a quick test, I did on a RAC 11.2.0.1) in the above scenario.

This question-how do you deal with just-in-case situation? How do you get the clients to connect to node 2 when node 1 is out of service? Do you rely on the virtual IP address of the node 1 be set on node 2? It's a safe and 100% guaranteed method?

It may take a while (minutes, maybe more) for an address virtual IP switch to another node. Meanwhile, any client using this virtual IP address connection will fail. Is this acceptable?

I don't know - I don't like this concept of your customer to treat the RAC nodes as a sort of database waiting for a situation of just-in-case . I don't see any logic in this approach.

  • Stupid question: what is the difference between RAC and Clusterware?

    Hi all

I'm about to start experimenting with the 11 G RAC Setup (to begin with, is that a cluster of a node, will try to add another later).

I am reading the docs... I'm on that of clusterware installation, and it seems to indicate that the clusterware and RAC are two different things?

    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B28359_01/install.111/b28263/prelinux.htm#BABJHGBE

With quotes like "UDP is the default for Oracle RAC interconnect protocol and TCP is the Protocol of interconnection for Oracle Clusterware. You must use a switch for interconnection. Oracle recommends using a dedicated switch. "

Can someone tell me the difference? I know it sounds stupid, but it's confusing me, and I'm new on this.

You can make your http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clusterware/clusterware_for_unbreakable_linux_faq.html#7 understand

What is the difference between the Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters?

In case of failure of the system, put in cluster guarantees availability high for users. Redundant hardware components, such as the additional nodes, interconnection, and discs, allow the cluster to provide high availability. These redundant hardware architecture avoid the single points of failure and provide exceptional resilience fault.

In environments Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), Oracle Clusterware monitors and manages Real Application Cluster databases. When a node of the cluster is started, all instances, auditors and the services are started automatically. If an instance fails, the clusterware automatically restarts the instance, so that the service is often restored prior to the notice of the administrator, he was down. In this sense Oracle Clusterware is the base of Oracle Real Application Clusters.

In these environments CCR ensures the continuous operation of the database, but also scalability by running several bases of instance data at the same time, usually one on each node in the cluster.

  • the value node id and baud rate by lss (CANOpen)

    Hello

for a research project, we try to use 2 volume CAN flow sensors (http://www.hydrotechnik.com/english/QT106_DSEN.pdf) . For use in our network CAN I first set up the node id and the baudrate of each of them. The manufacturer told me to do it via the put layer Service (LSS). (How) I can do using Labview?

I can use one of the following cards, NEITHER CAN: NI PCI-CAN/2 and NOR-PCI-8512.

    Thanks for the tips.

    Greetings,

    Thomas

Unfortunately, none of your interfaces are compatible with CANopen. You will need a PCI-8531.

The flow rate in baud rate and node id can be configured easily with the library OR industrial for CANopen communication .

  • Stop 1 node of a 2 node RAC how to move DB

I need to stop a node of a 2 node 10g RAC for server patching.  All fine judgment, but the PB is still running on node 1.  When the server is stopped, it will move to node 2?  Is there a way to move to node 2?

    Janet

A "database" can never start. Revisit the terminology.

An Oracle database is nothing more than all of the files on the disk. These files include data files, tempfiles, control files, online redo logs, file settings and if used, the password file. The database provides permanancy. That's what persists when the machines are turned off.

The instance is the collection of memory and the processes that are running on the server. Process as PMON, SMON, etc and memory as the SGA and all its components.

When you start something, you start the instance... or in the case of Oracle RAC, start multiple instances. You never start the database. The database is never running. Technically, users cannot connect to a database, they can only connect to an instance.

    Now to your question...

Here is the result of my 2 node RAC cluster:

    ORA.resp.db ORA... se.type online ONLINE host01

I have stop just one instance:

    [oracle@host01 bin] $ srvctl stop RESP d resp1 o-i immediate instance

    Now we see the result:

    ORA.resp.db ORA... se.type online ONLINE host02

So from the point of view of your original question... the database is now on the second node. To be precise, it is the _basededonnees resource_ in the sense of the OCR. All it means is that the resource database is available. Why it lists a specific host is beyond me because it comes to Oracle RAC and to be even more precise the database resource is available on all hosts that have instances that run on it for this database. Should be addressed on the State of the database for more information.

    [oracle@host01 bin] $ srvctl status database-d RESP

Resp1 of the instance is not running on the node host01

Resp2 of the instance is running on the node host02

Resp3 of the instance is running on the node host03

See... two instances on the other two hosts. The output of crs_stat could have easily showed the resource online on host03 as well.

    See you soon,.

  • Disable the single node rac 11 GR 2

    Hello

We have 2 node rac 11r2 aim to test how to disable a node oracle 11 g 2?

    Thank you

    Hello

Still not very clear, but what I understand is -.

"We have 2 node oracle rac 11rg r2 for the objective test when running on the database of the two node 1 & 2 we must restart the node 2nd server sometimes." What happens to the databases and cluster? "

As you're running 2 bow TIE, if stop you the instance on node 2, db will still be available for access that users can connect to the instance on node 1 1. If take you down the instance and the cluster on node 2, node always 1 and 1 instance will be available to the user.

  • How Oracle Clusterware Oracle RAC and 3rd-party Clustering with them

I have some questions on how Oracle, Oracle RAC and 3rd party clustering CLusterware fit between them.

Q1. My understanding is that the Infrastructure Grid Oracle Clusterware is Oracle's Clustering solution that allows applications to cluster? that is, it is a general clusterware solution to compete with those already on the market. Is this correct?

Q2. So why CARS is necessary for the Oracle cluster databases? An Oracle database is not just considered one application like any other? So why can not just use you GI / Clusterware to gather what you would do for any other application? Why so you need RAC to the Clusterware Summit?

Q3. Is it is possible to combine an Oracle database using 3rd party of clustering and not use Oracle Clusterware and CARS at all that is can you say cluster, an Oracle database using say Sun Clusters, Clustering AIX or Linux native same clustering?

Q4. If the RAC is purely for Oracle Cluster databases - what is with the title "Real Application Clusters"? What's real on this subject?, what to ask?

Q5. I also read that RAC can use 3rd party of clustering. However if you decide that this is the case, then you need to install Oracle Clusterware when even (I think for interconnection must be created to allow the merger with Cache between Instances of node?).

Is this the case?  If yes why never bore you with 3rd party clusters? -Since you will have to install Oracle Clustering anyway - and I probably have to license (all I can think about is the scenario that you already have a cluster of 3rd party in place and you decide that you need to use the same material for a database cluster)?

    All wisdom greatly appreciated,

    Jim

Yes, with 10g, you had to use the CRS, and with 11g, to use the GI.  For 9i RAC, you would use Verits Cluster and Sun Cluster or anything else.

11g RAC to GI.  As above, you can use clusterware extra if needed.  I gave the example above where to a 10g RAC we used the CRS to the cluster database/listener/vip and allowing groups of volume and filesystem in HACMP cluster.  File systems were not shared, but could switch to another node failure node, who has been treated by HACMP.  The volume of the groups containing the raw devices were shared volume groups.  For 11g, I never used extra clusterware on top of CRS and have always used ASM which is part of the GI.

The application provider only certified database to run on 10g on AIX with raw devices.  What is strange about that?  It would be unusual that you probably expect to use ASM instead of raw devices, but it is what it is.

See the following Note of Oracle for more information: using Oracle Clusterware with vendor Clusterware FAQ (Doc ID 332257.1)

It is perhaps easier to explain if you can explain what problem you are trying to solve?

This command is the full backup or a backup of level 0?

    full backup as compressed backupset
    data include current controlfile more archivelog deletion entry;

We use command below for the full backup of database.
    database backup incremental level 0 FORMAT ' / backup/RMAN_Backup/rman_bkp_%U_%d_%T_DATAFILE_LVL0_%D_%M_%Y'
    include current controlfile
