4K clips in iMovie export 9

I still use an old iMac 24 "(early 2009) and import 4 k clips of my Phantom 3 drone to create movies." I'm able to import clips and edit them in iMovie 9. Its sometimes jerky but doable. Then I export to 1080 p. So the extreme quality is acceptable but really could not compare it to nothing since it is the only application that I used for post-processing. I saw the vids in the forums of people who have a higher quality. I guess they use a better app pro and office job better. I recently recorded clips 4 k on a large body of water and noticed obvious mediocrity for most of the water. It is grainy and pixelated. Is it because of the bad conversion of 4 k in 1080 p by iMovie 9? My iMAC does not support iMovie 4K. If my question is indeed due to iMovie 9, is there another app that I can use with my old iMAC that does a better job? If not and I have to upgrade my desktop computer, then I will just check-in 1080 p for now see if it would be better.

iMovie 9 is not completely compatible with El Capitan and can't stand not officially 4K.  iMovie version 10.1 or later supports 4K - see: Edit and share videos with iMovie - 4 K Apple supported

As you say, your machine is not recent enough to handle 4K as you'll see in the statement it:

"4K editing and sharing with iMovie for Mac is supported on Mac computers of 2011 or later with at least 4 GB of memory."

I would expect exporting 1080 p of 4K clips would give better quality on your machine with iMovie 10 iMovie 9 but it won't not necessarily faster.   It may even be slower but that will not affect the final export quality.

    < re-titled by host >

have an imported video but trying to edit and cut the clips that I am only able to select the full video to put down in my film, not just the clip I want to choose.

This is a new and improved feature in iMovie. You must hold down the 'R' key while clicking on the part of the item you want.  By default, the full clip will be added to the time line.

See notes to iMovie version 10.1.2:

  • Alternative to Holding button down 'R' to the range selection Clip in iMovie 10.1.2?

Has anyone found another way to select a range of a clip in iMovie 10.1.2 other than now the key 'R '?  The method used in previous versions of iMovie has been quick and intuitive.  You just skim up to a point located on the clip, clicked and dragged to make the selection.  Browse, click and drag.  It couldn't be easier.  Now, when you click a clip, select the clip.  The only way to get only a piece is to change your train of thought, find the "R" key, press and hold and hope you can return to the creative process.  How is it better for the user?  It is a step backwards in usability.  Am I missing something?  Why iMovie software engineers would make such a decision of confusion?  Is it possible to return to the simpler method by a preference?  I can't imagine a user thinks, 'Wow, this process hold the 'R' key is really a nice update.  It's actually easier to use iMovie. »

    Browse, click and drag.

It always works for me this way in iMovie 10.1.2.  Maybe this works only on my trackpad with touch of strength? I can't test it with a mouse now.

I only use the "R" key after selecting the range to copy.

  • iMovie export error

I recently did a video and I want to download on my YouTube channel, but iMovie stop an error when I try to export. It is said that there are video rendering error - 50 and I do not know how to recover. In the video there are a lot of video at the top of the another video that disappears into an exit, I don't know if this would have an impact on export, but there before and I know it shouldn't. What can I do to stop this error from happening?

Making the 50 error normally means that there is a damaged element somewhere in your timeline.  The first thing to try is to copy all of your project into a new project and see if that share the file.  If it gives the same problem, then try to copy half of your project into a new project and see if that shares.  This will tell you where half the clip of problem.  Now share half of the part which still has the problem... and so on until you find the problem clip, which you can then replace.

  • iMovie Export / share error

I used Mac for more than six years and created more than 100 iMovie on four different Macs.  I'm certainly not a professional, but do consider myself a novice more either.  Recently, I created three movies using iMovie.  With each one, I get the following error when I try and share/export the movie.

The operation could not be completed. (error com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain - 1).

I have already created many films, using iMovie, on this computer.

I "moved" the project to final cut pro and received the same error message.

    :-(

Any suggestions?  I don't know where to go from here.

    Thank you

Maybe some clips are corrupt, and you can check for this, although probably not on three different movies.

I thought maybe that the clips were shot in 50 images per second that iMovie does not have 50 images per second, but I don't know if the CPF can return

  • iMovie export my video in a file?

I exported a video on iMovie last night and it worked fine.

I have just cropped down a minute 17 video, 7 minutes now. I click on click action, file, resolution 1080 p and high quality.
I then click Next and save on documents. I have no record checked theatre. Usually it takes a few minutes to record a video to my files, but now, it doesn't seem to work at all.

At the top right of the screen where it shows the circle and the progress that saves your video, the circle is left empty.

When I click it, it says...

Theater - name of my video

Name of my video - Theater (best quality)

The time beside the circle indicates the time for export can be anywhere more than two hours, but will be replacing meaning it can go up to an hour, then back up to 2 hours.

I think that iMovie is trying to save my video to the theater when I have not check marked and am simply eager to save a file?

I notice there is no loading bar that is usually available. Is there something I can do?

First thing to try when iMovie is not behaving properly is to remove preferences. Open iMovie, hold down the command and option keys and select this option to delete the preferences. Is this cut of the film that is the same as that previously shared ok?

  • I have can´t select part of the clips in iMovie...

    Hi guys

I m now using iMovie to edit a new project.

There is a low, I used iMovie without problems.

Today to import my video iPhone and try to select in the project, which is part of the clip, but automatically select the entire clip... In other works, simply place the mouse on the clip and drag to complete... Why not now?

It's a feature, not a bug, that you can't drag a portion of a clip to the timeline. Hold down the R button to select a part of an element to be used in the film.  Otherwise, you will always add the full clip.

  • Trying to grab the clip in iMovie

When I'm just trying to highlight a clip to use, the entire video is selected.

I think I'm suddenly having the same issue.  My version of iMovie is 10.1.2.   El Capitan 10.11.4.

To avoid any doubt are you trying to select a portion of a clip by making a click-and - drag on the desired section?  It is the method that I recently used to select portions I want to mark as a favorite.  Something has changed, and now, this translates into the entire selected clip.  You can drag the bars selection to beg and end of the global clip to select the desired portion.  However, it's painful if your source video is very long.

  • You can sharpen video clips in iMovie 10?

Given that I have not found a sharpening tool, I have a feeling that the direct answer is no.

But there may be a type of workaround?   My situation is that I have a video where the camera was about 30 feet away from the action.   The raw video is strong, but several times I want to crop so a person especially in a group is close-up for a few seconds or more.  Of course, when you approach you lose quality, so I want to see if I can make any kind of manipulation to make the not so fuzzy cropped image.

    Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, you are right. Their is no sharpening tool and since iMovie not exception plugins there is no third-party solution. What I found, it's that, with a few sensible adjustments to contrast and brightness, you can make the clip appear sharper, so you could try that and see if that will help.

  • iMovie export EXTREMELY slow

    Hello world

I spoke directly with various support staff from Apple that couldn't help me, and that makes me crazy.

I have been using iMovie with my Macbook Air for very basic films. Basically, I do the mixes of DJ music, import audio in iMovie and simply add a JPEG photo on top with a simple intro and a pool simple transition. So basically, this is a 1 hour movie, consisting of an audio file and JPEG sets for the duration. When you use my Macbook Air (Yosemite), it has been exported in 30 minutes approximately. I now do the same projects on my new Macbook Pro and IE it will take 10 + hrs and in fact the circle of small progress does not change even!

As advised by the Apple staff, I went into disk utility repair and even deleted and reinstalled iMovie... nothing seems to help. Honestly, I don't know why it takes time for export, and if it is still doing nothing at all! And I use the same settings to 720 p as previously. Fans in the start of Mac and the battery decreases faster so obviously the system is trying to work, but nothing happens.

I have a question too! I have this problem also with of the similar specifications. a macbook pro late 2013 16 GB of ram and the latest OSX.

When I tried to export my vid of only 1 minute with 1 audio synchronized. the estimated time to export was 3 hours! Why?

I can't imagine it's the macbook at fault. I can bounce audio project of 60 titles in 2 minutes with a lot of active pluggins.

  • iMovie exported to Office a .jpg. Why

I'm trying to share a short clip with a swing golf crawl site. They inform save the clip on the MacBook Air Office, what I've done. Just tried to download on their site, but got a message that the format is incorrect. I can see that the suffix is .jpg.

sent to see what form it must be.

    any notice received with gratitude.

.jpg is a fixed image format.  I think you should have chosen 'Image' instead of 'File' when you shared:
