5.1 for str dn840

my receiver is a 7.1, but I only have the 5.1 speaker setup and I do not want any more speakers, (don't have them anyway). How to connect just my 5.1 speakers to this receiver? I just ignored other suppound connections? Do I need to configure the receiver to ignore the function 7.1? Thank you

5.1 Installing speakers requires five speakers (two front speakers, a centre speaker, and two surround speakers) and a subwoofer (page 20 of the Manual). Yes, you can skip the speakers back two surround and set up the STRDN840 for 5.1 speaker system channels.

  • My STR DN840 cannot hold a stream of high quality network

    My STR DN840 cannot hold a 320mbs network stream. The same router is attached to my TV 4K, and it streams HD content with no dropouts. The receiver is unable to maintain a stream of high quality for more than a few minutes. There is another technology of networking on the receiver?

    Continuously on my XBR65HX900A works fine most of the time. The problem is with streaming audio of high quality on the receiver of 840 DN STR. It is connected to my router via a switch that shares with the TV signal and which is in turn connected to my router via ethernet through current domestic. The speed is 8mps.

  • Best connection HDMI for STR-DN850?

    The online manual for STR-DN850 gives an overview of "devices with HDMI sockets connection." In this discussion, they use labels to HDMI input on the receiver (i.e., SAT/CATV, GAME, etc.).  But then, they say: "Note: this HDMI connection is an example."  You can connect each HDMI device to any HDMI input, including the HDMI input on the front panel".  It is a standard approach to connect HDMI devices to a receiver.

    However, they will then say: "BD/DVD and CD/SACD input has better sound quality.  When you need better sound, connect your device to these jacks and select as input. »

    It's really weird. CANY anyone (from Sony or a user) explain what that means?

    I just got a new Apple TV and plugged into the HDMI CD/SACD input jack.  I was using a Roku XS system which was connected to the HDMI Video Jack.  The audio and video to the Apple TV are much better than what I got with the Roku - even using the same original material (Netfllix).  Now, the Apple TV can actually provide superior sound and video - but I was surprised by the magnitude of the difference and I wonder if the HDMI port, I used contributed to this difference.

    I'm happy with the way in which the receiver treats the Apple TV - but it mystifies me why the HDMI port makes a difference.

    If anyone can clarify this?

    David

    Hi Redfearn,

    Ports BD/DVD and CD/SACD has better sound quality because these prioritized audio and video ports. Other ports such as CATV/SATV, GAME and video (MHL) a priority and used mainly for viewing only.

    Thank you

  • STR-DN840: I can't get uppercase alphabet for entering my password wireless WPA

    When I try to enter a capital letter in my password string, I press the shift key and the number key repeatedly and it simply passes through the tiny alphas, then the digit, then back through the case from the bottom, never traveled all uppercase choice as claimed by the manual. I don't want to change ALL my passwords on all my devices and router to accommodate only the Sony box. Any known solution?

    I found the solution. Contrary to what the manual says, if you want to switch between uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers, use 'shift-CHARACTER' and repeatedly on / off the display at the bottom of the screen, showing the State is lower, higher, or digital.

  • Inputs composite and STR DN840

    I have a DN840 STR. Can someone please tell me if the composite inputs are issued over HDMI to the TV or the video available only to MONITOR decision-making? The manual shows how to connect to the composite inputs. My amp sends nothing on TV when I select VIDEO on the remote control. Am I missing a setting somewhere? I know there is no upscaling, but I am satisfied that, as my last amp had dropouts associated upscaling.

    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks for your reply SamT. You confirm me how I imagined the STRDN840 should work, but I get no picture on the TV if only the HDMI TV OUT cable is connected. Equipment is SONY, including the composite source, and all cables are provided by SONY. So I guess it's back to the SONY retailer for a replacement under warranty

  • STR-DN840 does not recognize my subwoofer... Please help!

    If for some reason, my DN840-STR does not recognize my subwoofer... I'm not all the sounds outside except on its own when I turn the volume to the top I hear feedback / interference or whatever. I have checked and rechecked my son, they all look great.

    Here are some details:

    With the help of speakers monoprice. 2 back surround, 2 front 1 central and subwoofer (powered). I have the right with SB on Bi - Amp, because it's the only way I can get back them two speakers to work. Also, the subwoofer must be installed near the back of the room because of the configuration. Its a small room (12 x 16 - ish).

    To connect the subwoofer, I had to take my 16 guage speaker wire and it splice to the DN840 with a RCA cable. On the other end, my speakers Monoprice have four terminals speaker (right side and a left and a positive and negative for each) of the screw on the variety (not sure how else to describe it). In any case, it starts up fine and everything seems to work except receives the sound to the subwoofer.

    I am enough fan of technology, but it's my first AV receiver, so I tried to play with the options. No noise / vibrations comes out of the subwoofer when I try the automatic calibration. I played with the sound field by changing speaker model, changed Assign SB, etc..

    Any ideas?

    I think you have misunderstood what connections for you on your receiver.

    First of all, you can use a pair of Bi-wire speakers on this receiver, they must be connected to the terminals of SB ' "highlighted in green below, you should use those for the front speakers. You cannot bi - wire your speakers rear surround as well. You may need to buy some new speakers for this purpose, except if you can wire with one pair of cables (+ & -) for each surround speaker. The image below should help identify what goes where.

    Also, you appear manual - Page 85 to use a Bi-amplificateur connection

    Can you please clarify the following statement you made:

    I had to take my 16 guage speaker wire to connect the subwoofer, and he splice to the DN840 with a RCA cable

    If I understand you correctly, if connect your SUB via a RCA cable you don't need connect other sons of speaker for the SUB. However, if you meant that you had welded adapters RCA Phono to your speaker cable that doesn't work! You need a RCA cable for this purpose.

    In addition, you should follow the advice given by Jeannettez above to "Change the speaker model", Select 3/2.1 if you have a 5.1 speaker configuration

  • STR DN840 does not connect to Internet

    Here are some details on my last posting:

    I noticed that my DN840 STR had stopped download Internet Radio on SEN and that he was not to connect to the Sony Remote App. Also, the unit was no longer appear on the network card in my computer.  I studied the internet settings on the unit and I saw that on 'auto', he displayed an incorrect IP address. I entered the corrected address, etc., under custom settings and it will charge far and finally said that the Internet connection is not. However, for a brief moment, the name of the device jumps in and out on the network card in my computer. At this point, it will charge just far trying to connect to the Internet, and I can't in network settings.

    I reset the unit and reset my router. My XBR shares the same switch the Str and connects very well. I can't understand what is happening.

    It turns out that the problem was that the switch between the Ethernet between the TV and the receiver was bricked. I have reset it and everything is fine.

  • Code equivalent oracle for str

    Hi friends,

    I want the Oracle equivalent code for the following SQL code,
    select str('534', 14, 3);
    Please someone help me.

    Thank you
    RAM

    You can use to_char

    The syntax of the function to_char is:

    TO_CHAR (value, [format_mask], [nls_language])

    TO_CHAR (1210.73, '9999.9') returns "1210.7".
    TO_CHAR (1210.73, ' 9 999,99') returns "1,210.73".
    TO_CHAR (1210.73, '$9 999.00') would return "$1 210,73". "
    TO_CHAR (21, ' 000099 ") would return '000021'

  • STR-DN840: I made a mistake; should I return it?

    Wow, not a good day as a buyer of Sony of long date. I don't know whether or not I made a mistake and hope that some here on the forum can advise you.

    I took the receiver subject today to replace a much older system and does not work. While its main purpose is for the Interior and patio Audio, I would also use it on the oldest TV and AV equipment (all not HDMI). The plan is eventually replace box cable TV Ian in the room with HD thereafter, so I wanted to be ready.

    Other than a comment in the manual, where was he never once mentioned that the only way to configure it with the OSD via HDMI. The monitor output, for some reason, does not support the OSD functions. OK, so after back with someone very unknowledged on the 'live chat', I finally gave up and moved a more recent HDMI set is room for installation purposes.

    Question 2 - information about the Sony Apps for iPod allow to conclude that this device can be remotely controlled, but this does not seem to be case. I have access to the network, pandora and slacker all workers and the last update of the firmware, but the same (?) daughter of 'live chat', indicated that this receiver does not have the necessary support.

    I don't know if she's confused or this new model 2013 is really not what I should have bought the other.

    Thank you, Bill

    Hello

    I apologize for the misinformation, we have confirmed that you can use one of the following 2 applications to control this receiver.

    • Audio remote network: allows you to control network and features DLNA streaming services only.
    • TV SideView (in lieu of Media Remote App): allows a complete remote control of the functions of the receiver.  Pairing instructions are on Page 64 of the STRDN840 owner's manual .
  • REF CURSOR question

    I have a situation where I have to retrieve the records of a table for processing in PL/SQL code. Here is a block annonymous that illustrates the problem that I

      crsr    crsr_type;

      str     VARCHAR2(200);
    BEGIN

      OPEN crsr FOR str;

      --Case 2
      OPEN crsr FOR SELECT * FROM detail;
    END;
    /
    Case 2 works fine, however the case 1 generates an error:
    ORA-00911: "Invalid character".

    It seems that the cursor cannot be opened with a variable which is what I have to do because the cursor must be opened in several iterations with different criteria for each iteration.

    Is there a way to do this?

  • Problem with like operator

    Hi all
    We use as operator for the search feature (oracle 10G).
    could someone help me in managing null, when we use as operator.

    Ex:
    Select empno, ename, d.deptno
    from emp e, Dept. d
    where e.deptno = d.deptno
    and e.ename like '% JO %';

    We have a text box to the end before you enter the name of the employee (ename) or part of ename. When the user does not use this option, he leaves it empty.

    so in the query above, if ename is null then alors my query fails.

    could someone help me handle this scenario.
    My query should still give me all employee IDS, if the ename is empty.

    using the dynamic sql is not advisable.

  • Chain replication using a sql function...

    Hello
    Is there a sql function that reproduces a string given so many times that appears in a parameter...?
    For example: String-> test

    Select < sql_function > ('test', 3) double

    -> testtesttest

    Note: I use Oracle10g v.2

    Thank you
    SIM
