5.5 ESXi is free for use only on 1 server or I need a license?

Hi all

I installed ESXi 5.5 on 1 server, I thought that ESXi is always free, but at the end of Setup that I have seen that ESXi is free just for 60 days... I need just to create 1-2 VMS with no HA or cluster situations... could you help me before starting to work on it, please?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Welcome to the communities,

Yes, there is a free version of ESXi, but you will need to register to

Download VMware vSphere Hypervisor for free

to get a free license for your server code.

I have CC with multiple desktop applications; My wife has CC for Photoshop only. We all have both need to use Acrobat DC, which is already enabled on my computer. She comes to install Acrobat DC on his computer via the creative Cloud, but he identifies himself as a trial. How his installation of Acrobat are activated under my account (as the second of two authorized activations)?

How his installation of Acrobat are activated under my account (as the second of two authorized activations)?

Two activations by Adobe ID are allowed provided that they are used by the same person and only is in use at any time.

It can be used simultaneously by two different people.

DC Acrobat is installed as a trial on your wife's computer, because it is signed with his Adobe ID and there is no active subscription for Acrobat DC under its identifier.

Your wife will need to subscribe separately the Acrobat DC plan only App or plan all the Apps.

  • Problem the installation / setup an ESXi 3.5 for use with rccmd

    Hello everyone!

As I mentioned in the topic, I tried to install / configure rccmd on an ESXi 3.5 software.

We have 2 different methods to implement the required functionality.

    1. install a virtual machine to launch the stop on because.

2 live rccmd with the service console install.

We decided to implement the 2nd method and everything works except for signal did not go through the process of rccmd listening.

There is a command to configure the software firewall on an ESX 3.5.x.

    I guess, it's esxcfg-firewall < parameters >

    The Question is:

Is there an equivalent for the command mentioned in the version of ESXi 3.5?

Alternatively, if not, how to implement a pass through to close?

    Thanks in advance!

    MGruel

There are no firewall in ESXi. You will not be able to use the rccmd either. Take a look at http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9531

Unless you're on U3 or earlier, you will not be able to use the script but maybe he can give you advice. Have a search in the forums of ESXi 3.5 for the shutdown of the UPS. There are other references.

    There is what?

Windows 7 is the latest version of Windows which are publicly - available for a college scenario, you would seek to buy a number of machines with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed, for best bang-per-buck.

You can upgrade these machines with Volume licenses for better versatility, and support of Mrs.

    Hello

The Adobe CC license is not specific to the user; It is specific to the Adobe Id, on which it was purchased.

Adobe CC license can be activated on 2 machines using the same Adobe ID, but can be used only 1 at a time.

  • 2808 LAG for use with VMware ESXi and Linux collage

I posted the month last about setting up my work with groups LAG http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/network-switches/f/866/t/19537080.aspx servers (I'll effectively implementing implement this Saturday)

I decided to buy a 2808 for my ESXi server get more aggregated connections to my staff iSCSI Linux server but now I'm worried I might have made a mistake to buy the 2808.

After looking in the manual before I realized I could have been mistakenly assuming that the 2808 had STP and LACP, as I can't find LACP anywhere in the PDF file. I guess that the configuration of my Linux machine for 802.3ad is out (a hope to make mode 4), so now for the configuration of my house, I wonder (* 1 *) that I have to configure my VMware NIC team like and what mode of binding should I use on my Linux host? As for the section at the top (my working configuration) (* 2 *) I don't know what to do about the road other than the leave as 'route based on originating virtual port ID "? (This is how our other data centers are configured, but I'm waiting for my admin network as agglomerates ESXi hosts are configured with the channels of port on our cisco switches)

For the House, I want to try to increase the bandwidth by using three NICs in each server, I was hoping that it works:
VMware: Route of IP hash function?
    w/Linux: balance-alb?

    -VMware:
    Before you begin:

    -Linux:
    * Descriptions of bonding modes *.
+ Mode 0 balance-rr: Round-robin policy: transmit packets in the sequential order of the first available through the last high school. This mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance.

+ 1 active-backup mode: Active-backup policy: only one slave in the link is active. A different slave becomes active if and only if, the active slave fails. MAC address of the binding is visible from the outside on a single port (NIC) to avoid confusion between the switch. This mode provides fault tolerance. The first option affects the behavior of this mode.

+ 2 balance-xor mode: XOR policy: transmit based [(adresse MAC XOR avec destination MAC traiterait de source) modulo County slave]. This selects the slave even for each destination MAC address. This mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance.

+ 3 broadcast mode: broadcasting policy: transmits everything on all slave interfaces. This mode provides fault tolerance.

+ Mode 4 802.3ad: IEEE 802.3ad dynamic aggregation of links. Creates aggregation groups who share the same speed and duplex settings. Use all the slaves in the active aggregator according to the 802.3ad specification.

    -Prerequisite:
-1.Ethtool support in the base drivers to retrieve the speed and duplex of each slave.
-Switch 2.A which takes care of IEEE 802.3ad dynamic aggregation of links. Most of the switches will require some type of configuration to activate 802.3ad mode.

+ Mode 5 balance-tlb: Adaptive load balancing transmission: Channel link that doesn't require any special switch support. Outgoing traffic is distributed according to the intensity of the current (relative speed) on each slave. Inbound traffic is received by the current slave. If the receiving slave fails, another slave takes over the MAC address of the failed receiving slave.

    -Prerequisite:
-1.Ethtool support in the base drivers to retrieve the speed of each slave.

+ 6 balance-alb mode: Adaptive load balancing: includes balance-tlb plus receive balancing (rlb) for IPV4 traffic and doesn't require any special switch support. Receive load balancing is achieved by ARP negotiation. Link driver intercepts the ARP replies sent by the local system on their way and replaces the hardware address of source with the unique hardware address of one of the slaves in the bond as different counterparts use different physical addresses for the server.

PS. http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheets/en/Documents/dell-powerconnect-2800-series-spec_sheet.pdf said that the 2800 series supports LACP, so if I'm worried about anything on my iSCSI side slap me please in the face, but I guess even in this case, I'm still not sure how to configure the ESXi host because it does not support LACP without vSphere and my original configuration is a free version , so I have no web vSphere management needed to make the LACP allow the change.

Not sure if it is of no use: example configuration of EtherChannel / switches control protocol LACP (Link Aggregation) with ESXi/ESX and Cisco/HP (1004048), but that's where I was to base the choice on IP hash from.

It must have the support of layer 3 to achieve IP hash, IP addressing is a 3-layer technology, so a 6200 series or higher or the soon to be released N3000 series.

Hello, I buy an iPhone SE A1723 free Sim Card in Miami? (for use in Austria)

If you go into an Apple store in person, you can buy anything you want, including an unlocked iPhone. You will be charged taxes based on the State or the city, or County, in which the store is located.  Unlocked iPhones and free contract require full payment at time of purchase. Your warranty will be limited to U.S. only. You will need to look at the specifications of the device for the model you want and determine whether it will be fully compatible with the frequency of the network of the carrier and country that you want to use in.

    See http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/#iphone-se

It is always better, in terms of getting warranty service and full compatibility to buy an iPhone in the country you intend to use it mainly features.

  • Looking for advice on my lab with ESXi 5 free

    Hi all

I would like to know if I need a license to just virtualize machines in my scenario.

    My goals:

    • All virtualized Machines, I will not use virtualization features, I want just the availability virtualize my machines, I don't care management or vmotion. I know that in a production environment is not a good practice, but like I said, I just want a maximum of my machines.

Here I show my laboratory structure:

    Servers:

    • I have 2 servers with the following configuration:
      • Intel Xeon 2630 V2

        • 2 uplinks QSFP + to connect on thorns switches

You can see a summary of my lab demonstration at the laboratory of attached file '. '. PNG ".

    My doubts:

WARNING: This is not legal advise and you're not my client. My TAM has confirmed that you can use unlimited ESXi licenses for your current setup without any problems. Please login to the portal of VMware and ask your ESXi unlimited licenses. Don't forget that you will need licenses paid if in the future you decide to deploy vCenter to manage these hosts and use of advanced features such as HA, vMotion. Feel free to ask more questions.

  • Are the five sites of free creative cloud only for the test?

Are the five sites of free creative cloud only for the test?

    Hello

No, you can add your own domain name to these sites and use them like any other normal site. Let me know if you have any specific doubt, and I will try to answer,

  • VCenter Server (standard) useful with ESXi is free?

Trying to decide what, if anything, to actually buy VMware.  The free ESXi product license is... enough.  I would really like to central management, backup or read/write capabilities with rcli (piracy without installation - I think I said that correctly).

My question is this.  There is a VERY big jump in $$$ of the products beforehand essentials range or better (I think that the Standard line is unnecessary).  I currently have 5 VMware servers (2 under Server Linux 2.0 on server newish hardware, each, 2 ESXi 4 server about 4 VM running on old jobs as each House a unique VM (due to higher disk IO) and ESXi 3.5 server running on 32-bit with 1 VM hardware).

In any case - with a mixture of mission critical production VM and VM little criticism that don't necessary not to live on a San and puff SAN bandwidth, I'm not sure I want to limit myself to 3 physical machines.  It would be probably enough for the next 5 to 10 years, but it would affect my SAN strategies and I have to buy at least 1 or 2 new costly servers.

So I thought that maybe just get the vCenter Server for centralized management would work.  I always have 2 or 3 more enjoyable new servers ESXi 4 on the San with mission critical servers, while continuing to have 2-3 of older machines with individual local readers VM (I like to keep virtual for purposes of disaster recovery for) running.

I can't find any information on knowledge if it would work, and it would offer benefits etc..

You cannot add free ESXi to vCenter. Adding a host requires the inside the host vCenter Agent license.

    Sorry about that.

  • Free version of ESXi can support for configuration of start and stop virtual machines via vSphere Client?

I have read and found some documents on ESXi.

According to the documents, I know that ESXi free version does not support some advanced virtual machine configurations and does not support write to ESXi host permission. But when I download ESXi from vmware.com, I can't find the free version. He will always be a trial of the licensed version edition because I can always do the configuration of start and stop virtual machines via vSphere Client installation. I can also run scripts (lamw) pl in vMA to stop the ESXi host (authorization to write ok?)

Then I confused. How can I get the really free version of ESXi? Or will the free version after 60 days of evaluation?

Start/stop above configuration is in vSphere Client via 'Configuration'-> "start/stop VM"-> "Properties"... «-> "Allow the virtual computers start and stop automatically with the system" actions setting and stop virtual machines can be configured to "comments"turn off computer"or"Suspend".» Can any body tell me if it's supported by ESXi free edition?

Is the free version of vSphere Client too? Because when I use the vSphere Client, he told me that I have 60 days of evaluation. This confused me again. I think that vSphere Client is always free, am I right?

Any suggestion or advice is much appreciated.  _

    Micky

Configuration of start and stop virtual machines is available with the free version and licensed, with the free version you would be configured everything via vSphere Client, where as with a licensed version, you can optionally use scripts to configure it and also issue restarts/stops using scripts.

Second, shutdownHostViaSOAPAPICall.pl for the version licensed and free of ESX (i), this script will work in both free and licensed because it uses direct SOAP calls emulating the vSphere Client communication. Take a look at the documentation for details, but this of course is not supported by VMware.

  • 2 slots for ram, or I can use only a single slot?

    Hello..

IV ' e bought 8 GB of ram for my MBP 2012 has 4 GB of memory.

But I totally forgot that she has 2 slots for ram!

so you can use only a single slot? or I have to buy another ram?

    Thankss

For best performance Mac need pairs of corresponding RAM modules, swap or buy more is recommended all things being equal. I would however expect sentencing of incompatibility performance much smaller than the benefit of the upgrade beyond 4 GB, so you could run with 8 GB in a slot and the original 2 GB in one for 10 GB total installed.

  • Use the TC for backups only, while the computer is connected to a different network

    Time Capsule version 7.7.3

I want to be able to make backups without having to connect to its network via wi - fi, because I'm connected to a different wireless network to access the internet.

I thought that I need to connect the TC to my computer with an Ethernet cable.

    But how to set it?

    Like this.

Time Capsule using wired for Mac for backup only.

  • Can I use old time capsule for storage only with a new airport extreme (standard want latest HQ)?

I have a time Capsule elders (802.11n). I would like to know if I can still use this time Capsule only as a network storage device, if I decide to build my network with a new Airport Extreme (802.11ac). If I can do that, how would I set up the network to continue automatic backups with a router to update?

To do what you want, the new AirPort Extreme 802.11ac would be installed as the "main" network router The time Capsule would be connected to the AirPort Extreme, using a wired Ethernet cable connection, and the time Capsule should be configured to run in bridge with the service Mode Wireless off.

Any Mac you want to save in the time Capsule would need to have Time Machine preferences on each Mac adjusted to ensure that the time Capsule has been set as the target for backup.

If you decide to add the AirPort Extreme, post back for more information at this time, if you need installation instructions step by step.
