5 and update manager vCenter

Hello

I installed vcenter and update manager as a virtual machine host.

Now when I want to use the update patch of the host Manager, it takes all the vm to stop.

Obviosly if I stop the VM guests, this includes the vm vcenter himself who then stops updates.

I tried to connect directly to the host without vcenter but then there is no Update Manager.

Any way around this?

Thank you

Chris

I would start by setting up the vmware in your main site environment - Essentials you are able to use the vmotion and HA - vmotion you will deal with the current issue - would you be able to vmotion virtual machines on a host and update without havomg yp sjut down virtual machines. With HA you will be covered in the event of hardware failure - if an ESXi host to crash the system VMs automatiically will restart on the remaining hosts.

Bit please be aware vmotion and HA require shared storage - either SAN (iSCSI and storage FC0 or NAS/NFS -

    Hello

Can vCenter Server 4.0 and Update Manager be installed on the same server?

I understand that they both must separate databeses.

    Thank you

Is the same as VI 3.5.

You need two DB, but also on the same SQL instance.

So you can install on the same computer.

  • Installation of VMware Update Manager (vCenter 4) and authentication

    Hi all

This should be fairly simple.  Can someone please confirm something for me?

In VI3 when you install VUM and enter a u/p that is used for installation only.  Is this still the case with vSphere?  The installer says now... "Update Manager will need this information to connect to the Server vCenter at startup."   It is not clear, it's just for starting the installer or the start of VUM whenever the service starts?

    See you soon

    Dan

It is only for the installation process.

VUM service (such as other services) runs with the credentials of the SYSTEM.

  • Get the message of sufficient permissions to retrieve the data when I try to access Update Manager vCenter 5.5

I've recently upgraded to VMware 5.5 and I'm having a problem with the Update Manager for where it says I don't have permissions to use it.  The plugin installs fine without errors.  I myself install as administrator, but it still doesn't let me use it.  I am using vCenter to manage my guests.  Any suggestions?  Thank you!

    Ty

To resolve this problem, update manager must be registered for the vCenter Server. This can be done by reinstalling Update Manager, but it can also be done without having to re - install.

    Step 1.

Remove vCenter update manager plugin by following VMware KB: suppression of the unwanted plugins to vCenter Server

    Step 2.

To connect to the server on which the Update Manager is installed

Open the Update Manager utility that is located in your Update Manager installation directory: VMwareUpdateManagerUtility.exe (located by default in C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager\)

Select Save again with vCenter Server

Enter your credentials to the vCenter server and select apply

Once the operation is completed successfully, you are prompted to restart the Update Manager service.

  • Server Update Manager vCenter - host supports

I am currently preparing our environment for the upgrade to vCenter Server v2.0.2 to Update3 V2.5

Currently, we only have 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 hosts and I'm busy to patch the 3.0.1 hosts to satisfy the prerequisites for the upgrade of the vCenter server.

My question is, Update Manager supports the correction of the old armed forces or is it only 3i and 3.5 hosts it supports.  I read it somewhere but can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

  • ESXi 5.1 and Update Manager

    Hi all

As I'm sure many of you are well aware, ESXi 5.1 is the latest version with a .NET VI Client is a separate installation. In the future, we want to use the Web Interface to manage ESXi hosts.

My question is with the Update Manager. Anyone know if you can use the Update Manager in the web interface? I see where use in the VI Client.

If you know the discussions or documents on how to use it in the web interface, please report it. Or if you know any information on the ability (or for that matter, cannot) use it in the web interface, I'd love to hear it.

    -Ed

    Hello Ed,

Yes, I work in VMware. In future releases it will not .net / c# and only web client. In this release VMware wanted users to use vSphere client and the web client, users can become comfortable with the web Client.

I am sure that in future versions, the MU plugin will be integrated.

    Hope that answers your questions.

  • VCSA and update Manager

Update Manager updates the vCSA device?   I swore that I read that he cannot for the time being, but I don't remember the documentation nor do I find.  If anyone knows, please let me know or point me to the documentation saying it is or is not possible.

I know VUM does not come with the vCSA and I also know that it is always necessary to use Windows to run stand-alone.  You don't know everything just not if the autonomous will update the device.

    THX.

    Hi Larry,

Good question. As far as I know, the update/upgrade of the VCSA is build-in the camera and you need to update/upgrade from there. Check that this upgrade procedure document.

    Kind regards.

  • license and Update Manager

    All, I have 2 questions

    (1) I have a host esx 3.5 in a vCenter. I used the LM Manager for the license for this 3.5. Is - the truth is that I will not see licensing in vCenter EPG Manager? Otherwise, what I do to see the 3.5 license in vCenter

    (2) my attempt to use inside of vCenter Update Manager updated the 3.5-4.0 has failed several times. Is there any file temp temporary on the server vCenter or ESX 3.5 host that I need to remove before trying to use the Update Manager again? The reason why it fails? the error message, it is my place of storage may be full, or the patch is already there

    Thank you

Take a look at the license for vCenter Server 4.0 Server Configuration. Connect section vCenter Server 4.0 to a license server explains how to connect to your LM License Manager (I assume that you installed on your virtual Center 2.5 server).

    HI guys

I'm new to the VM world, and slowly picking up his songs, I want to understand the Update Manager and snapshot in VMware infrastructure.

  • vCenter Server Virtual Appliance and Update Manager

    Hello

Anyone with experience in the present? Documentation says that it is not possible to install the update on a VCSA Manager but you can install the update on a Windows Machine Manager and point it at the VCSA.

Anyone try? It works as recommended by VMware?

That works, let some customers like that, no problem.

  • vCenter DB and DB Manager Update on SQL - use a user account to access the two DB or separate user accounts?

    Hi people,

I built a laboratory to test ESX and I always wondered what the best practice when you want to access the SQL2005 DB vcenter and updating manage DB.  In the past, I always created separate user accounts to access their database.

Any problems if I were to use one account for both of the DB.

    Looking for ideas on this.

    Kind regards

    Rick

    Hello

Role separation is advisable for many reasons. In this case, you can create a more flexible and more secure configuration using two accounts. Functionally, it work whatever it is, but if you need to separate the instances in the future you might some unwanted configuration dependencies.

    Kind regards

  • M1000 and R 620 blades/VMWare Update Manager

    Small question:

I need to upgrade my 5.1 to 5.5 ESXi hosts.  I'll use the VMWare Update Manager to perform the upgrade to my hosts, who are servers in a M1000 r.620 chassis.  What I need to download the .iso in VMWare ESXi ESIi specific Dell 5.5 5.5 or can I use disc VMWare 5.5?

I did not upgrade since the original install and we used the Dell disk at this time here because he had the pilots but thought that with the Update Manager, I wouldn't need to use the specific Dell disk now.

    Thank you.

    You can use.

Be sure to upgrade your vCenter and Update Manager 5.5 before attempting to upgrade the hosts.

The image of ESXi 5.5 vanilla of VMware and Dell 'branded' start ESXi 5.5 of the same image.

However, Dell adds drivers and additional sensors.

I would recommend going with the image of Dell.

  • If the patch management can be done by VMware Update Manager in vCenter Server Appliance as similar vCenter Server

    Hi friends,

If patches of the host management can be done through Vmware Update manager vCenter Server Appliance as in vCenter Server.

Tell me other differences between them...

    Kind regards

    Sirot Vijay

    1. Yes we can connect to the device using the vSphere client.

    2. in the installation of the update manager VCenter information will ask and he will automatically fit no special measures required.

    3. no conflict. Its just like you have two vCenter servers, but you can not have two server vCenter managing the same hosts.

  • The Update/vCenter update manager VM

    Hello

Maybe it's an obvious question/answer, but I can't seen to find an answer.  If I chose the wrong forum area, please tell me where one must wonder.

I have a server vCenter (v5.1) and Update Manager (v5.1) running as a virtual machine on one of my hosts.

I just finished reinstalling my 3 hosts (from v4.1 to v5.1, the upgrade was not an option due to OEM drivers).

All virtual machines are now running the tools updated

I now want to upgrade the hardware of VM to Match Host (from v7 to v9) for the vCenter Server (I did for my other servers).

When I try to fix it I receive the error "VM vCenter2 has either VMware vSphere Update Manager or VMware vCenter Server is installed. This virtual machine will be ignored for the scan and sanitation. "

Is it possible to improve this virtual machine?

Thanks for any help / ideas

    Ian

You can connect to the host vcenter is a and then manually update the virtual machine. through the client.
