  • Cannot install Windows Update error code 80004002.

OT:help: Windows Vista 64 problem (inaccessible update).

    Hi all

Hope you can help me solve this problem.  I'm not a "dummy" computer in many ways, but please treat me as if I was a (do not assume I know that the process to follow to achieve your advice).  It will be easier because I won't have to ask, "you told me to do this, but I don't know how."

We had this installed desktop (Dell Studio with Vista 64) for about 5 years computer.  A couple of days, I noticed that all of a sudden I could get are more updates of Windows (it is set to automatic, but sometimes I do it manually) and that the history of the update has been completely served.  I also noticed a problem with .zip files.  I can is more freely manipulate them, such as the addition of a text file or delete.  I suspect the problem with zip files is impossible to obtain the updates of Windows, but I am of course much concerned by the updates of Windows.  I rarely use zip files, and I have for countless alternatives for these issues.

When I try to get the Windows updates, the error code 80004002 appears:

I did some research and learned that it probably has to do with the lack of "Windows Service Pack 2".  I downloaded and tried to install SP2 several times, but each time I get this message:

When I click «go online to learn more...» ', nothing happens.

I should add that I do not have Service Pack 1, and I also ran a variety of malware and cleaning programs, all without success.

If anyone can help me solve this problem, I would be very grateful.

You're welcome, thank you for your feedback & good luck. Mark one or more of my previous posts as RESPONSE will officially close your thread.

    Greetings,

Sorry, you have problems getting your patches installed. I have a number of things for you to look at.  First of all, your Background Intelligent Transfer Services set to Automaticand started and Windows Update ? They both should be started. You can check these settings by typing services.msc in the search box of the start menu.

Sometimes in order to get patches to install correctly, you must perform these tasks manually. Click on each link below then choose download and run.

    KB976321

    KB981726

If this does not work, try to run the Microsoft OneCare safety scanner.  Sometimes it will solve problems of hidden registry, or can clear the virus that can prevent the installation of the patches: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm. Click full service scan, and then Quick scan (full scan takes a long time to complete). Try the patches.

  • Cannot install Windows updates, error Code 641.

Windows has encountered an unknown error. For 641, 80070641, 80070012 error numbers.

It of funny to me that I serve on 31 computers Windows update since 1998 and never had the first problem with Windows update, and yet I see many posts like yours here all the time. Did you accidentally made changes to the registry, or run Registry cleaners? I wish I knew this better, but anyhoo here are things that you can check.
    `

First visit the MS website for this problem to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/818018/en-us .  This will allow you to run Fixit and give you information about other points to check.

    -
    Other things to check.
. Get your updated antivirus program and start safe mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan mode without failure. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type CMD in the search box, right-click on CMD. EXE, then click on run as administrator. Then from the command prompt, type sfc/scannow.
    -
Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To make, click Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.
