7 eliminated Windows Outlook Express & all files and settings. Are they buried somewhere were I can get back in?

Laptop is a Dell Studio 15, about 1 month.
Upgrade Vista to Windows 7.
Previously, I used Outlook Express and saved some important emails into different folders in Outlook.   I didn't know that outlook Express would be gone.  Message says "e-mail & settings files will remain available after the upgrade".  Loaded a new email program (Mozilla Thunderbird) but can not find some old files of e-mail.

If you use Outlook on a previous version of Windows, and then once you have upgraded to Windows 7 then you should be able to reinstall Outlook and open your previous email information.  For longer instructions with migration check Outlook the

  • Upgrade to Windows 10 erase all files and programs now on my computer, or make it unusable?

Upgrade to Windows 10 erase all files and programs now on my computer, or make it unusable?  I have since I have not answered on this site, I headed to the computer store, 'Best Buy', to see if their staff or their staff of in-house computer repair people called "Geek Squad" could answer this question.  NONE OF THEM COULD.

Well up to now, I had a lot of problems with windows 10. Some programs do not work. My wireless guard is disconnected. And when I restored it windows 8.1, my browsers did not work. It's just on a single computer. Others have not yet verified, I'm very satisfied with the situation. He also removed my antivirus program.

The biggest problem is with the software I paid for and that you do not have a disk to reinstall. WHY - because today ' today, software publishers want you pay every month, and when things like that, go bad, there is no record of re - install the software. I spent hours trying to solve this problem, but until now I'm waiting for Microsoft's online live chat 194 minutes go.

I would say that they should have ethics applied to developers of software for this kind of things don't happen. How unfair is that they release a product with a ton of bugs simply because developers are too lazy to correct the problems before its release. They must be charged a fine for lack of ethics in programming.

So to answer your question - so far the files are still there, but has great difficulty with the programs works not as they did. In addition, if go back you to an earlier version of windows, it seems that they made it impossible for previous versions to work as before without having to reinstall all the software you have.

I'd wait until they have corrected most of the bugs. I'm stuck, but you're not.

  • Files and settings are not transferred when I use the files and the Settings Transfer Wizard

Two XP computers are same all critical Service Pack 3 with the update.  Same version of FAST.

Running FAST on the old computer (files and settings) creates the USMT2. The UNC file.

Run FAST on the NEW computer concludes the USMT2. UNC file and works through its steps.

Both measures take about two hours to complete.

When FASTING is complete on the new computer he wants to disconnect the user.  At this point, it seems that it worked without errors.  (no error messages at all)

After the Cup then turn it back, it's as FAST does not work.

  • Model e9300z #AZ217AV-ABA: help! All files and images are missing. Empty programs

My PC for 3 1/2 year, has been very slow for a few days. He actually hung online last night and I had to physically stop. I turned everything on time and the screen says welcome to HP as if it were a brand new computer. The homepage is not the usual.  I clicked on the Chrome and the display shows Bienvenuechez Chrome and how to put in place. Ditto for Mozilla Firefox.  Then I go to files and they are empty. Documents and photos. went. Family tree maker is there, but it also gives me the Welcome screen. I went to the original Image and it says that it has been changed in 2013 - day and the year of purchase. It seems empty. It's as if my computer has been deleted.  I backed up a month or two ago and I was actually going to save last night, but when he hung up, I turned it off. I thought that the original Image was a return to the top.  I have Norton AntiVirus.

What can I do to recover my files? Any suggestions? Can I have a virus? or what happened? Can I fix it myself? A computer store can recover files? I'm typing this on my work laptop. Because I don't know about the use of the computer.

    Thank you all very much.

    Lindsey

I unplugged the computer because I was worried that if the hard drive was not, that its use could write on previous data. In addition, the power in the House going on and off for a reason any. Since I'm not tech savy, I decided to hire a computer programmer rather than trying to back up my hard drive by using the adapter by myself. When the computer was reconnected overnight by the computer guy, he came as usual. All my files and pictures were back. The screen looked normal.  Yay! The computer guy said my hard drive was fine, but the computer probably had a virus 'Lotus '. I have Norton Anti virus. He ran a few malware research programs and found some viruses. It works fine now. Hope it stays like that. Thanks for the help.

Should I go to a professional for help?

You are, without doubt, is not going to be able to recover anything.  When you restore it, it erases the hard drive and replace all of the content with the original image.  It is possible, but little likely, that some records could be retrieved using a utility like Recuva (http://www.piriform.com/recuva) or use a professional recovery service but anyway, the right thing to do is to turn the computer off and let it off - every second it's on the chances of recovering files gets less and less.

  • My main computer crashed and the data has been retrieved from the hard drive, including all of my Outlook Express dbx files

I'll provide too much information because those of us who are computer knuckleheads think that everything is important since it is a mystery to us.

My main computer crashed and the data has been retrieved from the hard drive, including all of my Outlook Express dbx files. There are four years of e-mails in these files and critical that I be able to open them.

My only working computer running XP. It has Outlook Express is installed on it and was once used for e-mail, but not more and not implemented with my ISP to send or receive if it matters at all. Other that the sending and receiving of all the other functions of the OE program appear to be operational.

I have read many explanations on how to open the files dbx on different sites - all is completely different and most seem well beyond my skill level.

There is a fairly painless way to open these files? I don't want to try anything that could damage them. Please... any solution please guide me through in its simplest form - I am 64 but pretend you are explaining the process to a 7 year old. Yes, I'm that lame!

Sorry for writing a novel and thank you to all who take their time to help the ignorant!

I advise you to immediately copies of your DBX files restored. Save the duplicates in a place safe, and don't mess with them.
Then try using one of the various tutorials that you have found on the Internet by using a copy of your DBX files restored.
I did it a few times, but years ago and I DBX http://www.techrepublic.com/forums/questions/how-i-open-corrupted-dbx-files-in-oe/ visualization tool
You just continue to make attempts, using a tutorial after another.
As long as you have these unchanged copies of backup of your DBX files, you should survive it - other than frustration. Email PC remains a mess.

  • Certain files and folders are not detected by Windows Explorer (XP).

I created 15 files in a folder on a shared network drive, associated with another computer. My computer is running XP x 64 v. 2003 SP2, and the computer server (the one with the shared drive) has v.2002 XP Pro (32-bit) SP3.  When I open the folder in Windows Explorer I see only 12 folders. When I tried to rename one of the 12 visible files to match the name of one of the 3 missing files I get an error (file exists!). What is all too weird, when I select all and delete 12 deleted records and previously missing 3 appears.

Has also had a similar problem with entire folders. The Explorer does not see the folder but when I create a shortcut by typing the path of the folder manually and click on the shortcut, the name of the file appears in Solution Explorer!

All files and folders are visible when I connect on the 32-bit computer. There is no difference between the files/folders regarding the permissions or security settings are concerned. Other users have experienced the similar problem. I tested this on 2 other computers on the same network. On a 32-bit computer, everything works fine, but on another 64-bit computer, I get the same question of file disappears.  It seems to suggest some incompatibility between Windows XP 32-bit and 64-bit XP systems.  Any suggestions how to fix it? It's really frustruting...

The files appear when you refresh the Explorer window by pressing F5 (or view-> Refresh)?

original title: Outlook express open used

Glad you got it work & you are the very welcome, but some tips to follow in order to avoid this in the future, if you don't mind.

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

You did not indicate EO to leave a copy of messages on the server, so when he downloaded from the server, they have been removed from it.  Go to tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced and check the box leave a copy on the server for the future.

  • Messages in my Outbox Outlook Express 6 remain the same if they were sent and keep returning.

When I send a message, it goes to my Outbox.  I get an error message that indicates there was a problem with sending the message and that it remains in the Outbox.  Apparently, the message sends itself on and on every time that the automatic send/receive attempts to send.  It seems that there is really no problem, given that the beneficiaries get the first copy sent, although I get the error message.  It seems that this problem only occurs when the message has an attachment.  It doesn't seem to be my ISP issue, since we deleted the account from Outlook Express and then added the account as a new account.  My provider has also examined all the settings used by Outlook Express to send and receive e-mail and found them correct.

What is the problem and how can I fix it?

You have apparent dbx file corruption.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and then create new folders to send and sent items box after having moved the messages you want to save to a local folder that you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the files of user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX files for the items in the Outbox and sent and delete them.  New ones will be created automatically when you open OE.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.
