8.1 Windows Update issues

When I just upgraded for windows 8.1... I can't get past the password screen. I also tried to detach the screen from the keyboard, without success. Just get a blank screen after 'welcome. '

Hi Cfriedrichs,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. I read your thread on your upgrade to Windows 8.1and in need of a password. The account would have been defined upward with Microsoft using an e-mail address. This link is forcontact Microsoft. You could make a System Restore.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

  • Compatible Windows XP & Windows Update issues from July 2010

I am a technician in a company working with point of sale systems, and we quite regularly do the format / reinstall of Windows XP on different computers.  Since last week, every time the update to a new installation of XP SP3 using Windows Update, Windows and Internet Explorer have errors after the first batch of updates and reboot.  When Windows starts, an error box will appear that says something about an advpack.dll error.  Then, when you open IE, it loads the homepage correctly, but if you try to navigate to another Web site he returns the error "the requested lookup key is not found in any active activation context". I googled both of these errors and have found at least a partial solution to the latter; by setting the IE on the Windows Update home page, you can get the rest updates needed to make IE working again.  However, this always leads to problems with the software that we use, it is based on IE for some of its features.

Someone met these issues with Windows Update recently?  And are there solutions?  This makes my job extremely difficult.

Before anyone asks, I have experienced these problems on several computers (4 or 5 so far), and using at least two different copies of XP, it a regular retail SP3 install disk and the other an OEM SP3 disk.

I realized that if I download IE8 with the first batch of updates, I avoid the problem.  IE8 has apparently struck in the queue of priority on Windows Update to where he tried to install IE8 first, then a few fixes for IE6, which crushes IE8, make a mess of it all.

What happens when you try to update Defender via the UPDATE on the update tab button (for example, another error of 0 x 80242017)?  [DOCUMENT TEST/NOW]

When you run a manual check of updates, is an update of definitions of Defender offered as an optional update and if so, allows it to install?

Note: A computer can become infected a few seconds of being connected to the internet without a valid antivirus application installed. It of a very good chance that you see the effects of an infection being a certain type and that demand for Webroot is not installed or working properly.

Hello, I'm moving from my laptop to 8.1 64-bit windows windows 7. This laptop was originally 8 win but downgraded because I hated it. So when I have the legacy mode off my boot USB drive will not be displayed. When I allowed legcacy fine appears! However, I get an error when you select my installation disk (windows cannot be installed, the selected disk is of the GPT style). How to format my drive for MSR or no matter what format prefferd is for windows 8? I formatted my C: / containing my old installation win7 so I can't do it in a GUI environment. Thanks for all the help! Really appreciate it :-)

    Hello

Since you formatted the HARD disk containing Windows 7, you'll need a clean install of Windows 8.1 and no improvement is possible now. Since your laptop is with Windows 8, Option 1 in this tutorial to make the tool of creation of media, then upload the exact version of ISO (for example. Simple basic language Windows 8.1 in my case) that came with your laptop, which would install Windows 8.1 update on your laptop and would be automatically activated during installation by detecting the product key of Windows 8.

    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-Windows-8-Windows-8-1-ISO-download-create.html

You have to make a USB bootable UEFI to prevent this error: 'unable to install windows, the selected disc's style GPT.

First try allowing the secure boot and disbling Legacy in this case. Just change the BIOS boot order by pressing f9 to turn on/off and plug in the USB, install.

Additional drivers need to be downloaded from your HP support page.

From my point of view the new recovery process and final Windows Update should work fine, but I think first of all you should try alternative workaround solutions.

This isn't a laptop worth problem. Number of Microsoft and, therefore, I recommend you check out some hotfixes provided by Microsoft.

Check this doc of the difficulty of the problems of Microsoft Windows Update:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/GP/Windows-Update-issues/en

In many cases it s essential to remove some previous updates installed in order to complete the entire update procedure.

Alternatively, you can try to install unique updates one by one. This is also a possible option.

By default, Win7 is more secure than Windows XP, Yes. If you decide to "switch" to Win7, but keep pressing this freebie ugly AOL/McAfee, chances are that you will be infected again later. I wish that you were runningMicrosoft Security Essentials (free), NOD32 or Kaspersky Anti-Virus (not free).

NB: If you upgrade the computer to Windows XP to Win7, it will essentially be a "clean install". While most of your Windows XP data will be stored in a folder called Windows.old, I wouldn't trust safety of this right off the bat because of the infection aleady-today ' hui.

However, you can format the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows XP to resolve the infection. Who would you save a few $$ and you would not have to learn a new operating system (e.g., Win7). Details available on request.

  • Windows Update does not load: Windows XP

RSVP-URGENT! My primary default browser is NOT IE, but I have to use to try to get the UPDATES before it's end of life on October 16, 2014. Please confirm.

I want to run all Windows updates on it that I can, but now when I try to do with IE, it "cannot find Web site". I ran the network of Diag tool and it says I have no problem connecting and my OTHER browser can search and navigate VERY WELL.

I do not wish to use IE all the tim, but am forced to use Windows Update. I suspect that Microsoft's servers can be overloaded with a lot of people trying to access Windows Update because they too have Windows XP PRO and try to capture the updates as much as possible before its end of life.

QUESTION: WINDOWS JUST CRASH AT END OF LIFE OR IT WILL CONTINUE TO WORK, BUT IT JUST WON'T BE ANY MORE UPDATES?

I think that Microsoft need to disclose all information about this as soon as POSSIBLE! We should not have to buy new equipment, I have to do to keep my computer, and you could lose a client big and long time in this to LINUX instead of Windows.
