Questions of partition T43 (1871) hidden

I was given an old T43 (1871), on which I could install Windows 7 and, surprisingly, have almost everything works pretty well (even if there are two elements in the device manager that do not seem to be cooperating). Regardless, it works well (for an old machine Pentium-M with 2 GB of RAM).

Here's my question:

There is a hidden partition which, if I understand correctly, contains information of the recovery, to make the machine in the way it was when it came from the factory. As this machine comes with XP and I now have Win7, is it safe to erase and delete this partition? Or is there something in this partition that has something to do with the blue Access IBM button that seems to be the equivalent after pressing the DELETE key in a generic Windows PC? Just in case I am confused the issue, let me rephrase the question. Relying on the Access IBM button above the keyboard works correctly (to choose a different disk or enter the BIOS) if I remove the area of the hidden partition (assuming I want to restore the T43 in its delivered state of XP?

If I have fubar was the question, please let me know and I'll try to clarify. Thank you very much.

Barry

Welcome to the forum!

It is perfectly safe to nuke the recovery partition you have no intention to run XP on this T43.

Once the recovery partition is removed, the blue button will offer you start options and nothing else.

  • Keep the partition to restore hidden for later use

    Hi all

I have HP Envy M6-n012dx and it's to pre - install Windows 8. I see the partition recovery is named D: in my PC (and I don't know why it needs to be shown in my PC because it could easily be messed up).

I decreased my C drive and made two additional E and F partitions.

What I want to do now is to remove the recovery partition drive letter and rename my disks E and F in D and E respectively.

In this way, that my recovery partition should be hidden. More later if I want to fully recover my PC thanks to the recovery, I will assign a drive letter to this partition recovery. Will it work that way, or I'll just ruin my recovery?

In fact I don't want to do a test on it, because it would ruin my recovery. Also, I don't want to make recovery DVD/USB out of it because I want it to be preserved in my laptop.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • Question about partitions on Equium A100-027

    Hi all!

I'm new to the forum but have been hidden for a while and he thought at the time that I said "Hello".

This and the fact that I have a question about my laptop Satellite A100-027.
The hard drive on my laptop seems to be divided into three partitions = Vista (c) / data (E :) / WinRE (d) with the WinRE (D :) is quite small but others, quite large.))

My C drive is up to 3 that GB free with about 35 GB of free data (E :) is possible to merge these two to give me a big drive? And if so, how?
Please excuse my ignorance, but it seems impossible to me to "get my head around" this thing hard drive and would split the a large hard drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and once again, Hello to all.

    Hello

As the user previous already said, you can manage HARD drive partitions in disk management settings.

If you n t want to have a data partition (e) then you can try to delete it in disk management.
Then you can add this empty space of the HARD drive for other partitions on the HARD drive.

But note; the empty space will be placed at the end of the HARD drive. I don't know if your C partition is placed as a second HARD drive partition, but if so, then it should be no problem to add empty space to partition C (System) of m.

  • question of partition dividing Acer e1 - 572 g

    Hello everyone I bought an acer e1 - 572 g with a 750HDD.

My question is can I divide the c partition into two halves without effect on the hidden restore partition?

or won't be able to recover the factory default after?

    Thank you

Yes, that's right, this happened to me a few years back with Vista, resumption of the factory was stuck when I left the partitions in the alteration of the State but when switched back to the original set upward (IE, as it was when I bought the laptop) recovery plant is completed without a hitch.

  • Formatting for sale - question of partition Inspiron 9100

    Hi all

I looked through forums and the difficulty in finding the exact answer to my question.

I will sell my Inspiron 9100 this week - I have no CD of restoration, as it has the partition hidden for formatting/reinstalling.  However, I read that this type of format may not be to wipe my hard drive, and for data protection issues should I use external software to remove all my information on the drive - my questions so are:

What utilities to wipe the hard drive are free and easy to use?

These utilities will remove the partition to restore the system to factory State?

Of course, my main concern here is the 2nd question!

Thank you very much for any help you can offer, I'm a little trouble with this kind of things, and with the laptop sold Tuesday, I'm desperate!

  • Satellite M60-170: Question on partition Express Media Player

    Hello

I want to install Linux on a Satellite M60-170 (thus transforming part of NTFS partitions in other systems of files) without erasing/reformatting the Partition of Express built-in Media Player.

I don't see 2 Partitions using Partition Magic 8, predefined Microsoft (NTFS) 37 GB each on the hard drive of 80 GB.
I read on the forum that the Express Media Player is a T88 204 MB partition system.
How to see where this partition is located or do you know where it should be?

(Partition Magic reported an error right after the end of the 1st partition, sector 7815624; the 2nd NTFS(1st extended) begins at the 78156288 sector: I expect that the Express media Player is a 2nd primary partition located between 2 NTFS partitions, but I would be sure.)

    Thank you in advance,
    Bruno

    Hello

I m not 100% sure, but I think that the Media Express hidden partition is placed at the end of the hard drive.
I found information that the disk HARD should at least 150-200 MB of free space must be available.
This free space must be on the end of the HARD drive and there must be unallocated.
To get these free places on party products 3rd HARD drive must be used.

You should also consult this useful document on the Express Media Player installation.

  • Two Questions of Partition

I want to change the drive letter of a couple of scores. For the current configuration, see: http://paulrittman.com/CompMng.png.

I want to do is make my score of documents (currently F), d.

It is, the letter D is currently assigned to a backup partition. When I right click on the partition in the center pane higher in my screenshot, I don't get anything in the context menu, but a link to a help file. When I click on partition F, however, I don't see the option to change the drive letter assigned.

In addition, if you look in the upper middle pane, you will see two instances of the recovery partition (D).

    So my two questions:

    (1) is there a way I can change the drive letter of the partition recoery? Or even if I can him, isn't it advised?

    (2) the presence of two lines to my D recovery partition in this upper middle pane means anything it either bad - such as, if I ever need, will be miss BIOS Windows / connection and refuses to start or restore from this partition?

    Hello

No, you cannot because the Manager of Recorvey needed. but you can create a recovery (DVD, USB) media and delete. Please note: you must correctly create and keep in a safe place.

  • Question on Partition 'DATA' on the Satellite X 200 - 20 s

Hi, firstly it is great that toshiba has this forum directly from the page of the manufacturer. I wonder what is on the partition of DATA from my laptop. The 200 X 20 s comes with two 160 GB HARD drive. One is divided into two 73 GB. I would like to install linus on the DATA which is empty. What is the purpose of it?

I guess that the intent of the parititon of 'DATA' is to store data on it. Sound very logical in my opinion. Since you have a HDD recovery you should check first if this DATA partition is not the recovery of HARD drive partition. I think that the best thing to do before installing linux, create a recovery disk with the "Recovery Disc creator and then install your linux system.

On linux, I have an interesting link for you:

Hope you find your machine here.

  • Question of partition: partition and narrower than the disk space

Hi, I have a big problem with OS X El Capitan 10.11.3.

I used to have a Windows partition with bootcamp which I deleted via bootcamp, but it crashed.

I lost all my partitions and even os x. I have therefore started in recovery mode and launched disk utility, I could not create a partition OS X 90Go on my 120 GB SSD, and I installed OS X on it. Once installed, I have tried to maximize the size of the partition in disk utility to the actual size of the SSD, but it wouldn't work. Worse still, it actually shows my OS X partition a 60 GB instead of 90... (we also say that change log has not been activated, I allowed him but nothing happened)

How can I make my OS X partition as big as my SSD?

Here are some pictures of the utility disc and occupied disk space.

Try to launch the Boot Camp again to see if it will delete the partition. It acts like it doesn't have.

  • Question about partitions on Portege M700

    Hello

I was wondering why my M700 Vista Ultimate came with 3 partitions.
EISA, the part. C: System, a primary partition without name of 5 GB.

The EISA should be the recovery partition, but what is the last for?

I can delete to create a different partitioning scheme?

    THX.

EISA is not the recovery partition and this partition Go 1.5 belongs to Vista. The name of this partition is also WinRE (Windows Recovery das). If you want to know more about this please use Google. You will find many interesting documents on this subject.

Portege 700 unknown to me but 5 GB partition can be partitions for recovery that contains the recovery image. For older models of laptops the recovery image was always recorded on DVD, which means that the recovery image is big enough. I presume that it is between 3 and 5 GB.

You have already created recovery DVD? If this is not the case, try to do. Tell me if you need two blank DVD media.

  • questions of memory T43

    Dear members of the Forum

I noticed that the laptop above memory takes DDR2. Please can I ask for advice as follows:

I saw a pair of 1 GB 200pin DDR2 modules for sale on ebay, and the speed was 5400. Please can someone tell me these will work on my T43.

Upgrade memory 1.5 GB to 2 GB makes a big difference in performance

I noticed in the T43, modules of portable computer memory is located inside (under the keyboard). Please someone knows what type of memory module that is and in what capacity. I took one of these off a missed t43 and put it in the slot located under the memory cover, but the machine would not work. I was wondering if you please, anyone know why?

Your kind assistance in this matter is appreciated

    Yours sincerely

    Ian

    PC2-5300 (DDR2 667 Mhz) will work properly in a T43.

It is impossible to know which module could be under the keyboard on your computer, but you can install 2x1GB in any T43/p.

  • Question of Partition of hard drive recovery Vista

I tried to repair my Vista OS using the recovery hard disk partition.  It did not work.  Instead, my laptop (dell inspiron 1545) continue to boot normally without doing a repair.  So I guess something is wrong with my operating system may not be able to access the recovery partition, or the recovery partition is corrupted.  If I do a complete vista reinstall with the OEM that came with my laptop disks, this recovery partition will always be there or it will disappear?  If it is there, I will be able to use it in the future to repair my computer if necessary, or will it be an empty recovery partition?

    Hello

The recovery discs are back to exactly how you bought new

The recovery Partition is not not to make repairs; It is to reinstall the operating system configuration (new State); do the same thing as the recovery disks.

    It's the opinion of Dell on how to use their Vista recovery Partition;

"Restore your software Computer´s factory settings."

    http://support.Dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/KCS/document?c=us&l=en&s=Gen&docid=DSN_336966&isLegacy=true

Dell also has diagnostic software to solve computer problems:

"How to run Dell 32-bit Diagnostics utility"

    http://support.Dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/KCS/document?docid=52057

And here's how to use the Dell recovery disks:

    http://support.Dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/KCS/document?c=us&CS=19&l=en&s=DHS&docid=DSN_339949&isLegacy=true

Nornmally, you receive one or the other with a new laptop: disks or a recovery partition to make yourself recovery disks.

  • The age old Question of Partition...

I got my Dell XPS 8700 for about two weeks, just long enough to get me into a bit of trouble.

It came with a 2 TB hard drive, and of course, the space was almost all in one huge partition where Windows 7 Pro is installed.  I managed to shrink this partition to 200 GB (still 70% unused).  I also have a "Shared Data" of 10 GB volume.

    Disk management are the following:

    No 39MB (healthy, Partition OEM)

24,67 GB NTFS RECOVERY (in good health, the Partition Active, primary system)

OS 195,32 Go (healthy, boot, page file, Crash Dump, primary Partition)

SHARED DATA 10,00 GB (healthy and logical Partition)

    Go 1632,99 without label unallocated

    =====

I thought primary topic vs logical at all when I created SHARED DATA, but obviously was Windows Disk Manager. I tried to create a partition in the unallocated space and told me that I already had four primaries.

So now, I have four primary partitions allocated and wants more logical partitions.  The Extended Partition that contains my logic is full.  Can I resize simply upward to gain space to create more logical partitions, or the logic will increase when I resize?  Does anyone have a step to a procedure of time that I can use?

    Thank you
    Colin
