I went to shut it down and Windows Update popped up indicating not to touch or power off the computer turns off automatically after Windows updates were installed then... There were 22 updates installed by Windows Update and the computer is down. I waited for 6 or 7 minutes and turned on my system back to see nothing load, my monitor screen educated on and said to go to sleep! If someone can tell me what Windows has done to my system. original title: the problem with Windows update

Please help me to get Windows Update operational return.

XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, SP3

Had a problem with "Generic host process for Win32 has encountered a problem and needs to close."  Follow-up of the instructions on this link:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/931852

Seems to have cleared the error message.  So far so good.

However, now a Windows Update does not work.  Security Center Windows were told to go to control panel > system and use the Automatic Updates tab.  But, if I go to control panel > system, the Automatic Updates tab does not appear.

I also went to the control panel > Services.  Tried to start the automatic updates service.  Received this error message: could not start the service automatic updates on Local computer.  Error 126: The specified module could not be found

I already followed several instructions on this subject:

In the thread above, I was following the post on 30 August.  According to Option A, I completed step 5 for the uninstallation of McAfee Security.  At this time, my network card has stopped working.  On the recommendation of the officer, I posted to the Malwarebytes forum.  The officer determined Malwarebytes that I don't have a malicious software.  I ended up posting on forum McAfee to get my network card works again.  Then I reinstalled McAfee and start to run Windows Update.

I started with Option A, step 8 to reset Internet Explorer using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737.  The difficulty it has worked very well.

Then Option A, step 9 says reset Windows Update using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058.  When I ran the difficulty in default or aggressive mode, I got an error message saying: he cannot start wuauserv.  The message asks me to verify that the user has privileges to take this step.  Well, I checked through user accounts who am the only one user set up on this PC and I have administrator privileges.  Help me please run this difficulty or recommend another way to get Windows Update works again.

[1]... looks like you are saying that my system is so wet that a clean install is the (only?) way to go.

[2] if I do a clean install, not only what I need to reinstall Windows and all my applications, I also have to reinstall the drivers... Etc. ?

[3] I think I have the disks supplied with the PC system. Is it better to use than to use the recovery partitiion?

[4A]... is there a possibility that some of [my data are] infected?

[4] preventing me from simply infect the whole PC again?

A1. Yes, and it was my recommendation in August, too.

    A2. Yes.

A3. Only not really well using the restore Partition hidden to make the "destructive recovery" will include all drivers, etc., that have been installed at the factory.

    A4a. Yes, a real possibility.

A4b. You run at least three 3 tests on the backup data before restoring one (1) with your installed & updated up-to-date anti-virus application (for example, Microsoft Security Essentials) and two 2 with good reputation, free online scans (e.g., ESET;) Bit Defender; Kaspersky; HouseCall; (F - Secure).

If you have saved your data on CD/DVD, the disc scanner. If you have backed up your data to a flash drive, SD card, or another external drive AND KB971029 is installed, analyze the drive.

  • Windows updates automatically even if it is configured to do not.

About 5 months ago, I'm back from dinner to find my computer restarted itself. Windows updates are set to warn me when a patch/update is ready, but NOT INSTALL IT until what I choose. Since then, the small yellow "updates are ready" icon jumped to the top of each morning when I start the machine (Dell dimension 3000 by 2004), & now once a month I go back around 5:30 p.m. dinner & find the computer restarted, once again. Tried deleting about 6 months of updates & download them once again, thinking one can be damaged, but no change.

I would just format the HD & start (again), but I don't like losing all my favorites (firefox) & photos (new). Any ideas?

BTW, I can rebuild a Holley carburetor in my sleep, but this kind of electronic things just makes me crazy...

    Thanx.

  • Windows updates automatically, and loss of data

original title: Why Vista install updates without asking, then shut down my computer. When it restarts, almost everything is lost, including my documents and its competitors, Chrome and Firefox?

Yesterday, I turned on my computer.  Everything was LOST - my whole desktop, my documents/pictures etc., Firefox & Chrome.  The things that remained were: all in my trash and all my other apps in my start bar, (as far as I can see).

After having panic for an hour, then I have successfully done a system restore and luckily only lost a week of work and a lot of time and what I initially suspected.  So today, I was in the middle of a project when my computer shut itself down without asking and "1 of 3 updates" then "2/3", and then "3 of 3 updates" starts the download.  When the computer reboots, the same data as in the past has been lost AGAIN.

I'm smoking re: Microsoft.  In addition to their Bing pushing constantly at me when I keep choosing Google, they get on my nerves with their heavy and monopoly price.  They want me PAY for support simply because my Microsoft Vista came with my computer and I did not purchase the package separately?  Penalize the poorest community who can not pay their expensive packages in this economy is ugly.

I don't want to lose my data daily and have not been able to find a solution on any search engine like BIng for this problem.

I got my computer a year without any such problems before.  I just renewed my McAfee Internet Security.

    Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

You can go to the Security Center and set up how windows update runs. I have never
was on my PC when Vista did not ask permission before restarting after a
Update... and this shouldn't affect your desktop settings. Like you.
Vista came with my PC, but I've never had Bing 'pushed' on me, nor was
liable to pay for the support (unless of course you require voice contact). The
fact that you are in this forum is a testament to free technical support options. Maybe
It would be prudent to run some malware scans to test the integrity of
your system. If you simply 'enough' w/MS, there is a certain Linux

  • PIXMA MG6120 scanned in PDF with Windows 7, but not after that I went to Win 8.1/64

I have a printer Canon Pixma MG6120, who analyzed the documents properly to a pdf file in the past, but will not now.

The last time that I scanned a doc to PDF was July 1 when I was running Win 7 Home Premium with any driver was then installed.  The printer worked properly in all modes.

Then I bought a new desktop that came with Win 8.1/64.  I thought it would automatically update all my device drivers, and given that all print and copy on the gun functions work well, until yesterday, I had no reason to suspect that something was wrong.

Now when I try to scan a document to a pdf file, I find that I can't scan anything, in any format, even if the other functions of the printer are working very well.

I used Windows to search for updated drivers and note that I have the right pair.  But there are two cryptic messages on the window 'events' devices and printers when I see exactly which driver I have:

    • Driver management concluded the process to install the driver prncacla.inf_amd64_19fbb18075fefb90\prncacla.inf for the Instance ID of device USBPRINT\CANONMG6100_SERIES\7 & 47229F9 & 0 & USB001 with the following status: 0xE0000246.
    • Driver management concluded the process to install the driver mg6100p6.inf_amd64_7a61593f9c801b4c\mg6100p6.inf for the Instance ID of device USBPRINT\CANONMG6100_SERIES\7 & 47229F9 & 0 & USB001 with the following status: 0x0.

And I don't know how to determine exactly what driver or version I actually.

I do not remember having messed up the settings but I must have.  But I can't understand how to reset them so that I can scan anything, even in JPEG format.  Here is the sequence of messages that I get when I try.

    • I put the doc in the correct position on the screen.
    • I choose scan and then press 'black' to start scanning (or 'color'; it's okay)
    • It says "processing...". Please wait... »
    • nothing happens; the machine returns to the original screen I can only try again, and nothing past then is
    • I can so where I can click on "scan settings".  I always forward scanned docs on my desktop through my USB cord
    • I click on 'scan settings' and I get:
    • size: 8 1/2 x 11 (that's what I want)
    • format: PDF (which is what I want). There is an exclamation point and I can click on "error details" so I did that.  I get:
    • 'specified function not available with the current settings.  ' Change the following settings: Format.
    • To change the format of JPEG.  I click on 'black' and he said: ' treatment... please wait "and then he returned to the starting window as it did when I tried to scan to a file pdf. nothing works!
    • So I'll be back to where I can try to review the pdf settings, and only I can change all the others that choose JPEG, etc., instead of PDF, is something called 'unsharp mask' on or off.  Choose one or the other has no effect.  The printer will not at all, analyze a file pdf or something else.

    For example, nothing works.

I think that I don't really have the right driver, but Windows says I do.

    Help, please.

    THX.

    Tom

  • Performance issues / can't get windows updates automatically or manually

I tried to upgrade windows 7 to windows 10 year last to finally be told that my system was not compatible for windows 10. So I rebooted windows 7. I started having performance problems, like plate of frequent crashes, freezes, not able to play some video clips, cannot run any app, etc... I did not notice immediately and never Associates windows 7 reload with these questions. However, I just found out recently that automatic updates have not downloaded an upgrade since July 2015 a year ago, which is at the time that the windows 10 update was attempted. When I try to do an analysis to the upgrade I get the following error code: 80070002. Anyone have any suggestions to fix this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    then

    Click Start

I'll make a few suggestions here based on an upgrade in situ at W8 and not a pure install _ a clean installation being a total erase of the disk to install W8, rather then by installing W8 while there is W7 disk.

Go to programs and features and uninstall your software Cyberlink you Cam.

Download CCleaner and run a registry cleaner as many times as necessary until it finds nothing and reboot.

Run again and if it still finds things, repeat the process until it finds nothing.

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Do not use any other registry cleaner.

Install your YouCam software and restart.

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/WC/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-104747-1&CC=US&DLC=en&LC=en&os=4063&Product=5076816&sw_lang=

Save the file on the desktop and install it from there, not in a temporary folder.

    Restart once it's done.

If this doean can't work, try to do a clean install, assuming that it was an upgrade.

If you need a web cam to malfunction, return to W7.

Did you create your recovery media or the recovery still on the hard drive partition and it is healthy?

Another thing to try is to upgrade the BIOS, if you did not. However, there is nothing in the updates which improves the functionality of the web cam in W8.

If you do not want to update the BIOS, post again for the detailed instructions, it do not try your self.

After reinstalling Windows, everything works fine until it fails to install and download updates.
After that it automatically installs updates, it shows updates that failed, I try again but then it does not download or install updates everything at all!

I should manually, choose to install only the latest versions?

Windows Defender had always worked without any problems before re-installing.

-J' already downloaded Microsoft Fix it: it scans and fixes a few problems, but there is always an impossible problem to fix 'recent installation updates problems'

    Why I decided to reinstall:
During a session to install the fix, it never moved beyond the "installation of update 1 of ' it lasted there for several hours, after losing patience I Gilles downwards and then the problems started a week later.

I was unable to use it without problems, sometimes I would get blue screens, get stuck checking DMI disc read error, or it wouldn't start at all. Also seems to be some registry problems.

In the end, I was able to start but I was able to browse the internet. When I opened all the files, the window came out white, but he said that the number of files it contains.  Could not even open the start menu and was unable to use the restore system and when I access it from F8 it says it is running in a limited Diagnostic State and all restore points have disappeared.

Last good known Configuration or Check Disk doesn't help. I reinstalled after that.

What happens when you try to update Defender via the UPDATE on the update tab button (for example, another error of 0 x 80242017)?  [DOCUMENT TEST/NOW]

When you run a manual check of updates, is an update of definitions of Defender offered as an optional update and if so, allows it to install?

Note: A computer can become infected a few seconds of being connected to the internet without a valid antivirus application installed. It of a very good chance that you see the effects of an infection being a certain type and that demand for Webroot is not installed or working properly.

  • Trying Windows update for disk other than defult. any thoughts?

After recently acquiring a computer with only 19 Gig of hard drive, which I compressed and then after a"short of disk space" notice, I realized that the problem was a result of the accumilation of cumlative updates all truths; for example, "security essentials" and "malwarebytes" as well as the slow windows updates "criticism"; as a result, I bought a 16 GB Flash drive. later, I tried to lead all downloads update for the Flash Player (new drive E :) with no results; Moreover, I spent an amount of time incalculatable copy individual updates after that is investigating whether or not they could be later deleted c: subsequently save them on the new drive E) :.

    Then; Is it possible

? Alternatively, if I have to learn how to create an operating system that will comply with my desires (probably no more difficult to find a woman who will do the same thing :))?

Windows Update (automatic updates) will download installers for farmland on the drive with the most free space, but the updates themselves must be installed on the boot drive (usually drive c :)).
