8 cores Logicboard for Power Mac G5 A1117? Possible?

Hey there,

I use my Macbook for a long time now, but I have to switch to the Mac Pro for audio recordings. My neighbor would generously give its late 2005 A1117 G5 with a logic board faulty bicoeur.

Is it possible to replace it with a newer version, for example the A1186 - eight core?

Not really. They have different layout.

The back of a Power Mac G5 (left) and a Mac Pro (right) show the differences in the arrangement. Note the double on the Power Mac fans and the single fan on the Mac Pro as well as the new arrangement of I/O port.

  • Power Mac Pro 2010 problems

So I just bought a Mac Pro 2010 and it ran fine for a day or two and then I noticed that when he falls asleep the light never blinks and turn even a problem.

If the unit is off, when I first press the button there is a click but the led stays off and nothing happens. I have to hold down the power button until there is another click. When I press the button once again, there is a click and the power of fans on and the machine finally starts. Although the chime time seems very long.

However, when he goes to sleep, the monitor turns off, I can hear the fans turns off but never flashes as it should the. Subsequently, the computer cannot be awakened from his sleep. This happens if the timer is active, I press the power button or choose to sleep in the menu. I have to hold the power button to turn it off completely, then start it again. Also, when I press the power button to restart the same as above occurs.

I ran Onyx to flush all caches that I left my SSD (OWC E2) my Mac Pro 2008. I also reset the SMC and the LANDAU and also ran the Apple Hardware test. Nothing has helped and no errors not found in one of these trials. I tried simply have a HARD classic in this drive and removed all my cards accessories but that does not make a difference. Even when I start windows via boot camp the same problem occurs with sleep.

    Any suggestions?

I had a similar with a 2010 6 core Mac Pro problem except that the Mac I never sleep, so sleep was not involved. An Apple Store Genius diagnosed as a button battery failure and, eventually, the PS. I asked that the two be replaced since the support for that Mac ends. It's worked OK since then and at Pick-up, engineering was agreed that, while the battery needs replacement, the real problem was the PS.

Until the repair, one of the things that helped aims to let the Mac disconnected from the AC line for about an hour. Immediately after it by plugging in, he would sometimes start and then work.

  • [Power Mac G5] Type of liquid cooling system?

Y at - it anyway how to determine type of LCS just by looking at the case?

We have old school Power Mac G5 DP 2, 7GHz (early 2005) we use for editing (well, for the last two years, he's right there and no one wants to touch this old piece of...). They will throw him in the year, and since I was take care of him for a while, I thought I'd take home when they do and use it as a backup machine for the data of my and my wife. I would like the max memory, put a few large hard drives (and small SSD, but there seems to be a lot of problems with this) and run the Linux command (more problems).

But first, I have to clean the machine and look at the State of it. What particularly concerns me is the LCS (DP 2, 7GHz I) - these things have been prone to leaks and what I found there are at least three revisions of the LCS - second of them made by Panasonic seems to be the most reliable. I can't look inside, deeply, because it must be ready to use at least for another 3-4 months, I can do is to open the case and remove the front fan and look outside the heater.

So this brings me to my question: Y at - it anyway to determine the type of LCS just by looking at the case?

    Thank you...

Apparently, there were two models more prone to leaks than others, although still very rare. See this http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g5/faq/powermac-g5-liquid-cooling-infos-fuites-issues.html

The damage inflicted by a system of flight are very serious, and it is almost impossible to hide or completely clean. As soon as you open the side panel on the Power Mac, you will easily be able to tell if this unit experianced a problem.

  • Power Mac G5 power problems...

Hello, on a quest to find a G5 computer, I found an early 2005 Power Mac G5 (2x2.7GHz). The first time I plugged it in and turned on, it works beautifully. The second time, I pressed the power button and heard a loud noise from the power supply. I replaced and this is what is happening now:

When I plug the power cable in, there is a small clicking noise about a second after plugging in, and the power led on the front of the machine flashes for the click. However, it does not at all depend on when I press the power button. When I unplug the cable, it makes the same noise about a second after I unplug the unit. I see a pale glow of the light output after unplugging it.

Anyone have any suggestions to solve this problem? It is part of a collection, that's why I want to do operational.

There may be defective capacitors or other power supply problems, including

overheating in the dust inside the power supply or air channels. And

If the device is cooled by liquid, other things may be involved.

Since all the PowerMac G5 power supplies are considered to be custom,.

to get a good replacement is a way hoped to improve the situation.

Unlikely as is, actually an inexpensive job.

  • Die Power Mac or an anomaly in the system serious?

Power Mac G5 (June 2004 version)

    OS X Version 10.5.8

I have a 700 GB drive, which has an operating system partition and a single data where I save the work and other files. A couple of weeks, I used SilverKeeper to the ice to back up my apps folder and data to a whole new Samsung 2 TB disk that I had deleted and format (which, although it came with an installer, I was unable to use because it is for Intel Macs only) and left on overnight. SilverKeeper was frozen so I started to work in the morning, but it seemed that everything was copied successfully. Now I don't know for certain that my subsequent problems started with this event, but following it, Finder now takes an age to open folders, the system or on my drive of partitioned data, or completely freezes and means that I have to perform the forced reboot. I deleted the various preferences such as system ones like zapping the PRAM. The strange thing is that after it zapping, the computer restarts on my second drive when I always seem to remember that he started the last used boot disk.

Oddly enough, I can still use all of my apps and can't seem to save and open files on a backup external drive which leads me to think it might be a hardware problem as it seems to affect the second internal drive as well. It has stopped also now boot from the power button and I have to use the option key method. Oddly enough, my second drive is always shown as selected. I don't want to wipe the drive and start again if I can avoid it, as I did with the second disc and now only one will not boot at all.

As it is an old Mac I guess I would have expected something like this (However, it never happened with Mac earlier), but if anyone out there has a suggestion, I would be very grateful to hear it.

    Michael

    Hello

Open the activity monitor, see the: > all processes of sorting on the % of CPU, see if anything with too much % of CPU when this happens, click the memory tab, you have lots of Pageouts?

Open the Console in Applications > utilities and see if there are clues or recurrent messages when this happens.

Click on the top line, we want to Shift more click on the bottom line, we want, CMD + c to copy, then paste the text into a response with CMD + v

A few dozen lines should be on the right, several hundreds or thousands will probably not readable

  • Y at - it a Firefox update, I can use with Power Mac G5 (model 11.2)?

I have a happy Firefox user for years and that you have installed the recommended updates on all 3 computers I use daily regularly. My Home Office is a Power Mac G5, 11.2, the model with a PowerPC G5 (1.1) processor 2.3 GHz speed. While this computer is old, it then the screen is beautiful and there is no problems with the tasks I use it for. I want to continue to use Firefox as my default browser. Is there an updated version, that I can use?

You are completely up to date.

Versions of Firefox 4 and later do not run a Mac PowerPC. Firefox 4 and later requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • Where can I get a Power Mac Quicksilver monitor connector?

I withdrew my Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver?) in 2010 in favour or an IMac 27 ".  Now after having sitting in storage for years, I plug it into my IMac as an external hard drive to wipe and move.  I did not set the monitor and cable connection for some reason any.  Any ideas where I can get a cable RGB for this G4?  I can't find one online.

    Thank you.

    Gina

Unfortunately say 27 "iMac don't tell me much about the model and its capabilities unless I have spend five minutes of research on iMac models.  Ideally, all you need to do is to put the computer in target disk Mode and attach it to a compatible computer, this way to get access to the drive, no monitor required.

How to use FireWire disk mode target - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661 - includes a description of the hardware and software configurations.

Most of the other ways I know attaching require the Quicksilver be started on the drive in which case it won't let you erase the drive.

Another way is to remove the drive completely then buy one of these things in setting $30 naked reader with connector IDA / ATA and use it as an external drive.  I have a NewerTechnology universal drive adapter that performs the 3.5 "and 2.5" SATA and SATA drives.

  • Download Firefox 4 for my Mac OS10.5.8 and now cannot open Firefox.

Download Firefox 4 for my Mac OS10.5.8 and now cannot open Firefox. The processor is 1.25 GHz Power PC G4 and 768 MB of DDR SDRAM memory. Is it possible to revert to a previous version that worked fine on my Mac?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third part of Firefox 4 version that works under OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details, see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox

If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

CS 2 is very old version that uses Power PC, but a newer version than Mac's Intel based processors. CS 2 has been designed according to the Power PC architecture.
