8 or 16 GB of RAM is appropriate?

Hi all

I just bought my first mac a few days ago, it's a mid-2012 MacBook Pro, here's the basic specifications:

CPU: Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz

RAM: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Hard drive: 500 GB 5400 RPM hard drive

I'm looking to upgrade my RAM to 8 GB or 16 GB and my hard drive for an SSD. I intend to use my computer heavily, to include running the calculations, games and rendered 3d models. My question: 16 GB of RAM would be an upgrade is appropriate or that it will be excessive because my CPU is so marginal? So, in other words, the Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz will be able to use the 16 GB of RAM or is it a waste of money? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

-Benegesserit

You should check if your model of Mac supports 16 GB of RAM. If so - go ahead. Most likely, it supports Max 8 GB of RAM.

Well, the procedure for the RAM upgrade is a bit tricky. There is no RAM module Bay separated with easy access.

To access the free RAM slot, the plastic cover of the bottom must be removed.
You need to remove the ODD (optical disc) as well as the battery and next by the screws around the cover.

But remove the cover would mean that you would negate the warranty.

I put t know if you want to lose the warranty, I think that security is a very important fact which should be considered before performing this upgrade procedure.

  • HP Elitebook 8470p A1029D1102: upgrade of RAM 16 GB for p 8470

    Hello

    I have a HP 8470p (A1029D1102) with 179 KBC Version 42.38 Council. Windows 7 Pro 64-bit operating system.

In fact, I have a 4 GB of installed RAM module and I would switch to 16 GB (2x8Gb modules).

The type of memory suitable for this laptop is 204pin DDR3 (or DDR3L), PC-3, 1600 Mhz 12800.

I don't know if the modules that I will use as upgrade memory must be 'single' or "double" channel.

My question is - is the most effeicient and reliable type of RAM upgrade appropriate for this laptop?

In fact, surfing the web, I found a "kit" (2 modules 8 GB/ea "matched"...) of the A-Tech brand at a very reasonable price (US$ 69.00) but I don't know anything about this brand.

Finally, what are the correct settings to be teaken into account when buying a 16 GB of RAM upgrade in order to have any kind of problem during installation and use?

Quite well, thank you for any help.

The best way to upgrade and purchgase a memory that works as expected during installation is to buy only guaranteed compatible memory modules are a well known manufacturer of memory.

The provider and the memory stand-by manufacturer of their products and ensure they are compatible. They have their name of the game on the market.

    Crucial memory

    Corsair Memory

    KIngston memory

Using bandwidth specifications, the type and the ability to buy the memory can be hit or miss and disappointing

oYu will save a lot of time ensuring that the memory that you have selected as candidate for your laptop computer modules are guaranteed compatible. Let manufacturers carry out experimentation in their QA Labs instead of going through the hassle of doing it yourself.

  • My Satellite M70 no longer works, and caps button flashes

My problem was explained in the title. I just want to know if there is a problem or not. I work on Linux and windows XP, but the problem can happen in the BIOS.
    Thank you, Vivien.
If you need more information, please ask me :)
PS: it's the Satellite M70, and I changed the RAM

    Hello

I'm afraid that you have to be a little more specific than one that's a little wave... but now that you mention that you have changed the RAM maybe this is related to the question of Mr. is your RAM speed appropriate for your laptop? (Example to 400 or 533 MHz, regardless of the speed is indicated for your product). Because if your RAM is at the wrong speed, or at a higher speed (for example, 667 MHz, which happened with me) the computer can crash/blue screen/go crazy.

In fact, now I remember that my flash CAPS LOCK button too, because of the bad RAM or Aries do not correctly inserted. I recommend to check the speed of your RAM and make sure that you have inserted the right type, RAM speed and you have inserted it correctly

    I hope this helps.

  • Issue of RAM memory

Hi, I have a 15' mid-2010 Macbook Pro with 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM upgrade, I installed myself the 4 GB it had before... The problem is that I don't feel an optimization of the workflow, instead of that, sometimes I feel like it works more slowly than before, for example, where before he supported a lot of tracks in Garage Band, now it gets stuck and overloaded... any help how would I know if the RAM is OK , or maybe I did something wrong in the purchase/installation of memory? • Firefox devouring 2 GIS of RAM, getting slow context menu

Ive tried everything in firefox so far, but simply not working for me

i disabled addons manually to see whats gobbling up so much ram but nothing, i upgraded, downgraded all the plugins and nothing either (the new flash plugin was giving me issues so now im on an older one btw, was still having issues with recent flash version so thats not it) i added addons that supposedly reduce ram usage but nothing

I have enabled and disabled hardware acceleration but nothing either

I deleted the cache and everything that firefox can clear except browsing history but nada

I used speedfox to try and possibly difficulty this inconvenience, but nothing

I've updated, downgraded and basically did everything possible with the drivers for my computer but nothing either

Firefox is all designed to be like that and behave like an app which does not release its RAM after its used? in the Task Manager its show me anywhere between 1.2 GB of RAM used or more 2 GB! This is not normal, especially since I was only 4 light tabs open, all this and to add the context menu loading when I right-click is slow as molasses

Please, please, can someone just help me out here? I've added a newspaper thing that could possibly help, idk whats even carried out more of that, one day firefox was large and using no more than 1 GB in total with more than 100 open tabs but now with 4 right after firefox was open for a long time his consuming a quarter of my total RAM for a browser that's a little crazy especially that in the days, I used to use Opera itd use not more than 800 MB at least

Have you tried a new profile with extensions less?

I do not expect a profile for "sour go" in 4 months, but many installed extensions (enabled or disabled) and how much others who were tried, found unfit and then uninstalled, who can understand what went wrong and why?

Extensions uninstall cleanly, most or all of the preferences created are left after the extension is uninstalled. Who can or "clog" the prefs.js file, and can affect other extensions. With issues I personally had in the past, I save the profile before you install an extension that I've not used before or want to try. If this 'new' extension does meet my needs or causes problems with existing extensions, I wouldn't waste my time to uninstall this 'new' extension and then find maybe I ' fixin got more to do. " I just deleted this profile I just break off and drag the backup of this profile in place!

Regarding the total number of extensions, I use several profiles who all my "28 basic extensions ' and then install the appropriate extensions for each of these profile for use on the internet.

1 banking - security type extensions AND automatic erasure of the data of Firefox I started closing the browser (total 35 extensions) = launched by a keypad created using the Windows key, so that no one else using my PC won't even has a profile on this PC

2 ' default' profile - used to advertise the default browser links - just the basic 28 extensions

    3. general surfing - a total of 55 extensions
    4. support - used on support forum and discussion websites - total of 49 extensions

5 web development - used for the display of Web sites from the point of view of trying to understand why a Web site "does not work in Firefox, but done in Chrome / IE / Safari - extensions of 45 in total.

See my next assignment for "advice", I'll probably max on this "response" where characters allowed.

  • 4 GB of RAM, but 2, 99 GB usable on NB510-117

    Hello world

I bought the netbook NB510-117 one a few months ago and I recently upgraded the memory to 4 GB. So, in order to exploit all the RAM, I installed windows 7 ultimate which recognizes the memory up to 4 GB. The problem is that in the properties of my computer says Windows ' installed memory: 4 GB (2 GB usable 99).

    Obviously the RAM I bought is appropriate ([4 GB DDR3 1066 Mhz | http://s16.postimage.org/4yu4q0zph/Capture.png])

Which version of Win 7 system do you use?
Win 7 32 bit recognizes only 3.2 GB
Win 7 64 bit can handle more than 4 GB of RAM.

So if you want to use full 4 GB of RAM you should use the 64-bit version of system

  • NB550D - upgrade RAM

(I'm really sorry to bother again by opening another thread right after the other, but if it's better to separate this issue from my previous ones for other users who might have the same doubts.)

So I get my new NB550D-108PT next week, and in all the comments I've read says the machine has benefited with an upgrade of RAM at least 2 GB of RAM. Now, the only model sold here at the Portugal is the AMD C-30, so I am limited to a 2 GB RAM upgrade.

The Eastern question: y at - it a specific type of RAM I should buy or is it enough to be a single SO-DIMM 2 GB, DDR2 or DDR3 module?

Is [this | http://www.fnac.pt/Kingston-Memoria-SO-DIMM-2GB-DDR3-1333MHz-Memoria-Memoria-Portatil/a295844?PID=10&Mn=-1&Ra=-5000&To=0&Nu=3&Fr=0] an appropriate? And if so, DDR3 is worth the extra price or the diference between DDR3 or DDR2 speed especially insignificant?

    Greetings,
    Catarina S.

Try to match the RAM which comes with the laptop. DDR2 has a different connector and is not compatible with the portable DDR3.

DDR3 1333 2 GB should be fine to use. Try to avoid the cheaper value RAM because they usually have compatibility problems.

  • Satellite M100/200 PSMAAA RAM issue and replacement keyboard

For the last year my satellite M100/200 PSMAAA-022006 worked rather slow, it takes a long time to open programs and sometimes crashes.
So I intend to make a recovery of the system at the end of the school term.

Now, I think I have a bit of extra ram, I don't want to have to go deep into my laptop and put it under my keyboard, so I'll just put it in the free space below the friendly place. I don't know what kind of ram it will take care of my system with 512 venus, then would it be appropriate put a 1 GB Stick? I can't find a manual on the Toshiba page so I'm not aware of what my system can handle and what kind of ram I can install myself.

So the question is. How much ram can I put in and what kind.

Also months ago I removed some keys to remove hair and lint on my keyboard, those General in the middle of the keyboard were easy to replace but my key "1" would not, so I removed the '2' thinking if I can work on how we worked the other should do the same.

So now I'm stuck with not one or two keys, which I have now lost. The membrane on my a key ripped off also so now there are just the small piece of circuit showing. I thought that if I can remove the piece of plastic on the keys it might let me get the angle right them suddenly on.

Should I take my laptop in a repairman and let them sort it out?

    Hello

You can replace plastic key keyboards plugs, but you will not be able to replace the simple buttons
So, if the only keyboard button doesn t work, then you need a new keyboard.
Akuma is right you should get in touch with the ASP to replace!

  • Satellite 4090 on board the issue of RAM

    Hello.
    I have a S4090CDS/4.3 (PAS409EYV-EN9X,

It would seem that the RAM is faulty (boots ok, as soon as you get 1/2 way through all the facilities you start getting memory errors type.).
My question is, is the RAM on the main Board or on the processor board. Which is never someone has a part number or even a Board for sale.
    Thank you.

RAM on most laptops is removable, as in desktop systems. There is a compartment memory inside of your laptop that you can open yourself, discovering the memory modules.

You can test your existing RAM modules to find errors with MemTest (http://www.memtest86.com/). You just run the program, it copies itself on a floppy and with this diskette to start the tests.

Your User Guide will be an article on how to install or replace a memory bar. Order number for a Toshiba memory of 128 MB RAM expansion is PAPA2062U. For more information about the Options for your laptop, you can visit this page: http://www.toshiba-europe.com/bv/computers/products/notebooks/satellite4090/index.shtm

You can take a look at Kingston or Crucial to find the appropriate module for your laptop instead of buy a Toshiba that comes at a very heavy price because of the logo.

  • Qosmio F30 - How can I increase the RAM

IM from the philippines and I've had this laptop PQF30-00X016AR...
Where could I find a Toshiba Center appropriate for that.

This is because the laptop Qosmio series and I want to expand the memory.
So bad, but this kind of cell is not yet released in our market.

How or where I could spend it?

    Hi mate

The Qosmio F30 memory can be upgraded up to 4 GB of RAM.
    In this case you would need 2 x 2 GB DDR2 667 MHz (PC2-5300) 200 - PIN SODIMM.
Usually it s no matter what manufacturer of RAM is all the DDR2 667 MHz (PC2-5300) 200 - PIN SODIMM modules must be compatible
But I prefer the Kingston modules I use a more long time and had good experience with it.

The RAM slots are placed at the bottom of the unit. There is a component of slot secured with a screw. You will need to remove this screw in order to get access to the memory locations.

PS: the detailed instruction how to upgrade the RAM modules can be found in the user manual. You can find the download page manual here:

I don't know all the market in India. When I say memory without a name, I mean literally nameless memory. It will be just the speed not stamped on any other identification. If you associate modules you lose operation dual channel which means that the memory can transfer 10-15% less information per cycle. While generally, more memory, the better, but it is also true that you want it to be faster. Very few computer users really need more than 8 GB. This is why most of the people would be better with 8 GB in dual channel 12 Concerts in single channel mode.

This memory would work fine and would be functionally identical to the module you have:

I am considering buying a HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14-f021nr, but I'm unable to find detailed information about its RAM.  All sources I've found say it comes with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, and the maximum value supported is 8 GB.  What is not clear if a second stick of 4 GB will seek up to 8 GB, or if there is only one slot that is initially taken by the supplied 4 GB, making a single 8 GB stick the only way to upgrade.  In short, is dual-channel a possibility?

Also, if anyone knows the RAM timings provided RAM, that would be wonderful as well.
