Vista 32-bit. Just instaleed new RAm as someone told me that this could be the problem (Crucial recommended). always the same

Hello. I tried to update SP1 to SP2 for months now, but it still fails. I have tried everything I have asked me to do it through forums but the old thread about this error looking dated 2010 so hopefully someone might have a will.

The error I get is ERROR_SMI_PRIMITIVE_INSTALLER_FAILED_ (0x8007371c). I ran the SFC tool that highlights errors. The SFC details txt that I could see it was mistakes it (copied below). The question is how can I fix it.

Hi, GMC,

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

If the System File Checker tool cannot repair a file, follow these steps:

  1. To a high command prompt, copy and then paste (or type) the following command, and then press ENTER:

    takeown /f

For example, type takeown /f E:\windows\system32\jscript.dll.

  2. Copy and paste (or type) the following command and press ENTER to grant administrators full access to the file:
    ICACLS/grant ADMINISTRATORS: F

For example, type icacls E:\windows\system32\jscript.dll/grant administrators: F.

  3. Copy and paste (or type the following command to replace the file with a known good copy of the file):
    Copy

For example, type copy E:\temp\jscript.dll E:\windows\system32\jscript.dll.

If you have already performed the emergency repair process and the computer still not working, it may want to make an upgrade of existing installation repair/site.

  • Error 0x8007045D when you try to install Windows Vista SP2

    Hello

Currently I have Windows Vista SP1 and want to upgrade to service pack 2. When I try to do the update of Windows, I get "error (0x8007045d) Error_IO_DEVICE. I also tried to install it in safe mode, I get the same error message. After having traveled a bit on the internet, I found that it is probably because my HDD is damaged... so I run the chkdsk program...

The chkdsk program stops at 16%... Step 4 of 5... When 85785 files off 300000something files are done... and it does nothing more. It keep running like this all night, it goes no further.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do to successfully install Windows Vista SP2?

    Thanks for your help!

OK, I started the computer with the Windows CD and I ran chkdsk /f at a command prompt.

Chkdsk /f found errors it corrects.

I ran Chkdsk/r... .he got stuck after scanning 85763 files... near the place, he would always get stuck (85785 files)... so I guess it's the same file that crashes chkdsk.

The good news: I still have a functioning computer.

The bad news is that I ran the SP2 from windows update in new safe mode and it didn't work... I'm still stuck with my problem.

I have an extra hard drive... that I ordered from Dell for my girlfriend's computer, his computer died before she could use the player, but it is larger, then the drive of your computer and it is brand new... the only downside is that the player has been implemented for the computer of my girlfriend (pilots and other things) and does not work in my computer. I guess I'll try to format that drive to make it work in my computer... it should fix this and then bad SP2 remedial power very well.

I guess I have no choice.

I suggest to remove avg (uninstall) then try sfc/scannow then chkdsk /f several times. a few times, they need more going to make things more

Microsoft security essentials is a better a v for not update couseing problems.

You can allways put avg in the back.

not having is not enouph to free space for temporary files can couse problems too.

  • Error when you try to install Windows XP Service Pack 3: "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

    Windows XP SP3 problem

Recently, I met a problem with my PC and was forced to use the system recovery. Now I'm back to factory settings and try to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 on my computer. Windows Update won't work for me, that whenever I try to update I get [error number: 0x8024400A]. I think it's because I use Service Pack 2, or that's what I concluded after researching the problem, anyway.

This is not my real concern, however. Because I could not get the update automatically, I tried to download and install the "Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT professionals and developers" myself. The first time I did it, I restarted the PC after the installation and was met with "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. "  I went into safe mode and went to a just system restore point before SP3 was installed, but now I don't know how to install it correctly without encountering this problem after reboot. I'm hardly the easy just stick with SP2 when there are potentially important available updates. How can I get Windows Service Pack 3 is installed on my PC?

    It's certainly interesting!

If the cause of your problem is to have a HP PC with an AMD processor and an original image on your hard drive (and of course it sounds like this is the case), the solution should be to rename the file intelppm.sys and launch the sp37394.exe patch. Once done, the SP3 file that you downloaded from here:
    SHOULD work!
I'm puzzled why there is no intelppm.sys file in your directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers.
Since you recently returned to square one with your PC ("return to factory settings"), then you may as well run the patch from this page:
and try the SP3 Setup file again.
But, first, let's be absolutely sure that we are both using the same terminology. Please answer the following questions:
    1. have you safely backed up ALL your data?
    2. what method did you use to ride "back to factory settings? I think that your choices have been a destructive restore (full) and a (partial) non-destructive recovery. The first erases the disk and leave you with a pristine image and NOTHING ELSE (which means that all of your programs and data get deleted). The other (which does not always correctly) is supposed to leave programs and data intact.

I have a Satellite L510 purcahsed with Vista home premium, but when I try to install XP Professional it screens just as it tries to start windows and blue right after the installation of the part of pilots to the beginin.

Anyone has an idea why this would happen?

    Hello

I m a bit confused now... When you get exactly the BSOD? After complete installation of Windows or after that?
By the way: BSOD code what you get exactly?

I often read on codes of BSOD when installing XP so I guess that you didn't use the correct driver SATA. You need the Storage Manager to properly install Windows and you can find this driver on the Toshiba site.

  • "Configuration of the Windows updates failed. Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer"error when you try to install Windows updates

    Original title: problems with updates

I tried to install windows updates since the store won't let me update to 8.1 otherwise, but I've been miserably lacking 4 days in a row now. Commissioning Windows Update in Control Panel or the charm of parameters found 133 available updates and informs me that they will install automatically. If I then try to install progress remains at "downloading 0 KB", after a while updates are shown as installation. When the installation is completed I'm prompted to restart my pc. After the reboot if I'm greeted by the "Failure configuring Windows updates" screen for about an hour, then I'm able to reconnect to the desktop computer. I've been searching the forums for similar problems looking for an answer and trying different solutions, such as:

Stop the update service then renaming or deleting the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. No positive results on this one.

Using SFC and DISM, first came up with my system is clean, the second did find and fix corrupt elements of store, but the problem persists.

Download the tool for troubleshooting Windows Update from Microsoft page, who reported finding and repairing problens with service, but again without success.

Reduce the installed updates at a time, in the instance that Windows can't handle most of the many updates at the same time. I tried this and it seemed to go well, but a strange point of interest that is so annoying is that several edits I checked are installing somehow, even if it is the only example that shows the number of updates being installed before restarting. Yet I always comes to the same conclusion. Failure of Windows updates the screen. What should I do?

    Hello

Please update us with the State of the question. We apologize for the delay in responding

    1. You have a disk to install for Windows 8?
    2. Can you please explain what did you mean by update failed?
    3. Have you an error message when the update failed?

I propose to perform the refresh once more using the Installation of Windows 8 disc, but before to perform updating please follow the procedure below

    Step 1: Repair of drive

One of the best ways that you can check the alteration in the hard is to run a check disk on this subject. Please follow the steps below to repair the disk using the disk check.

    1. Open This PC by hitting on any fly in the Dashboard screen, quilting Search (or if you use a mouse, pointing to the top right of the screen, move the mouse down and then clicking search), recording this PC in the search box, and then tapping or clicking on This PC.
    2. Press on and hold or click the drive that you want to repairand then tap or click Properties.
    3. Tap or click the Tools tab, and then, under error-checking, tap or click check.   You may be prompted for an administrator password or to confirm your choice.
    4. Follow the instructions. You may have to restart your PC after that error checking is complete.

Important: when running chkdsk on the drive hard if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost.

Step 2: command tool (DISM) deployment image Service and management.

By running this command, we can retrieve or modify information in an image. To run the DISM command, please follow the steps below:

    1. Go to the Windows Start menu.
    2. Type cmd on the keyboard.
    3. Right-click on the program from the command prompt and choose Run as administrator.
    4. The command prompt dialog box.
    5. Type the command Dism.exe / online/cleanup-image/Restore health and press ENTER.
    6. Wait for the command to run which can take about 30 minutes.
    7. After running the command, please try to make the backup of the system.

The above information was hoping to get useful, please return it to us if you need additional assistance.
