    Hello drjoe_anzaldua,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft Answers forum.

Usually the "Windows is unable to Check For Updates" error message produced always of the blocker window update connection attempt.

    1. first of all, please check that there is no any third-party firewall preventing Windows Update to communicate with "update.microsoft.com.

    2. check if Windows Firewall is blocking the update of Windows.

Please see the following article for connection errors:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/836941

836941. you may encounter temporary connection errors when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates

After following the steps of troubleshooting in the article, if you still get an error message, thanks for posting again so that we can help you.

    Sincerely,

  • Vista - Windows Update fails and defender gives the error code: 0 x 80080005

Well, I downloaded Veoh Web Player and DivX player (with a driver package) almost the exact same time, so I don't know who caused the problem. (Guessing Veoh done.) I restored system which usually solves it for me and then uninstalled both programs and even if my computer is not nearly as slow as it was when they were both installed, it's always problems. Windows open frequently stops responding. As I said, the system restore only makes it better for a short time while longer I go without eating, the freezier my computer becomes. I also noticed that for about 2-3 days (after which my computer almost completely freezes and I have to startup repair) most minor cosmetic changes.

I use Firefox, so the first change I noticed was that left side of the address bar in a small half circle in a regular square. Tiny. Then the scroll bars on all the programs I've used lost their Aero look and returned to normal, old style Windows. Eventually good menus click lose their new look, then all the start menu, and finally Windows Explorer stops working and all the windows, when not in use, become small tabs at the bottom of the screen. After that the computer hangs almost entirely.

Each time I restart or system restore the first thing I see is a little box that says that a Windows host process has stopped working. Windows Update continually fails and Windows Defender gives the error code 0 x 80080005. What can I do? I looked for answers before coming here to help and what I read it looks like a downloaded driver can interfere with the host process, even if I uninstalled it (supposedly) all. Thank you.

Applications, (Norton and McAfee) are known to not uninstall (or upgraded) themselves.

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. click right on the file saved in #1 above, and then select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

  • I tried on & plus one more time, error code 80080005 continues to climb, I can't update my laptop until it comes to solve .__Can you help me please? __

    Ideas:

    • Programs that you have problems with Vista home
    • Error 80080005
    • Recent changes to the update of your computer
    • What you have already tried to solve the problem, tried to update some updates went well, I think that this error is causing others to fail

You forgot to write anything in your ad, as this OS you use etc.

This error is associated with linked the usual "access denied."

  • Vista Home premium sp1 not updating__80080005, 80070005, error 0 x 80080005

I have vista for two years, and today discovered that I received ZERO updates at this time. Windows Update can't check solutions (error 8008005) after some research on this site, I tried to validate certain .dll files and received this error 8007005. I tried to download and install SP2 manually and installing, I received error 0 x 80080005. I tried a clean boot and then update and got the same error 80005. I use McAfee firewall/antivirus provided by my supplier dsl and read that this could cause the problem. I still have to find bulletins or discussions on this topic on the web.

    redneck_toy,
Do you have another anti-virus installed before installing McAfee?  If so, you need to make sure that you run the removal of this software tool to completely remove the software.  I would say that you can also use the McAfee removal tool to uninstall McAfee, and then try the updates, and then reinstall McAfee.

  • Windows Vista update error 80080005.

I just bought a new laptop.  I ran windows update and after you download 34 updates, it installed 14 then asked me if I wanted to install IE 8.
I clicked No. (or remind me later), and then I was forced to do a reboot.
During the restart, he installed the updates, but gave me an error saying that he had to go back.

After about an hour, I was able to connect again, but when I went to redo the windows update I got an error code 80080005.
Now I can't even on wireless internet or really do anything.

    How can I fix it?

Remove the Vista updates; two ways to do this:

    1. a System Restore to before the updates:

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > System Restore > restore time/choose your own date > next

If you use Norton, disable it before using the system restore.

In addition, you can do this way:

    2. click on start > right click on computer > properties > Windows updates down the lower left corner > updates installed in the lower left corner in the next window

    > then click the one that you don't want > uninstall will appear at the top > uninstall it.

In addition, on the page where you clicked "Installed updates", click on change settings at the top left corner it

    > Change update settings in the next page of AutoUpdate to "check for updates but let me choose etc" > OK ".

When you take a look at pending updates, you can either download/install them one at the time, namely the bad.

    > or if you do not need an individual > right-click on > UAC prompt > hide it

Post back with update KB number, you are having problems with.
