A virtual machine created the 4.0 can run on 3.5.1?

Our infrastructure is 4.0 Update 1.  I must travel on a site next week, where the infrastructure is 3.5.1.  I would like to create a new virtual machine on my 4.0 host and then take the files with me and run them on the 3.5.1 host.  Is - this possbile?  Do any information would be helpful.

Hello

The new ESX V4 U1 has the ability to create the virtual machine to version 7 and version 4 (compatible with ESX 3.5). If its basically need to take care when you create a virtual machine, you will receive two options when creating. Choose the one you need and go as needed.

So in your case, it is possible, but you must create the virtual computer with version 4 on ESX4 and take it to the other site where you ESX3.5

Thank you

  • A virtual machine created in ESX 4 can be converted to run an ESX 3.5 Server?

    The subject says it all.  Our main office has created a virtual machine on their ESX 4 server running.  They want us to use the same but we are running ESX 3.5.  We have no time to upgrade our server to 4 again.  We get an error when we try to start by saying this is not not compatible because it was created with a version with more features.

    If a virtual machine created in ESX 4 can be converted to run an ESX 3.5 server using converter?

    most important:

    change

    virtualHW.version = '7' to '4 '.

    in the vmx file

    then change

    ddb.virtualHWVersion = '7' to '4 '.

    in the vmdk file

    the other changes are optional - for example, you need to remove the lines that start with pciBridge and all the lines making reference to... .pciSlotNumber

    also take care of not to use more then 6 PCIdevices in 4 virtual material - i.e. the sum interface cards scsi controllers + network + video cannot be greater then 6

    If you have a time that is very simple and much much much faster then converter - post an example if you want

  • Create new virtual machine of the model that have two hard drives in the different data store

    We do VM deploy automation with PowerCLI.

    There is already a model created with at least two hard drives to one side and each hard drive belong to difference datastore,

    In the model's operating system is Windows server 2008 R2 already installed VMware Tools and other software in the second (other than C: driver) driver

    We can successfully deploy a new virtual machine with this manually with vSphere client model.

    But when we try to make the deployment with PowerCLI, can not find examples of similar scripts in the document of reference,

    and we also google this question, still no similar question was found.

    Is this possible with PowerCLI? If it's possible could you give me some advice or an example of script, thank you!

    Best regards.

    I already found the solution.

    With the vSphere SDK .NET API, we can create the new virtual machine to the model

    Mainly used API listed below, sorry because I can not give the source code here.

  • Orchestrator 5.1 REPORT-all the virtual machines in the data center and create a CSV file

    Hello

    What I basically want to do is create a report CSV of all virtual machines in the data center with various information (VMname, domain name FULL, IPaddress, status, data warehouses, tools etc...).  The export list in the client feature is insufficient (especially for any KPI report).

    Problem: (workflow is still under construction so real email send does not not and need to clean the code)

    I am stuck at the part of the creation of a table that can be parsed correctly in the CSV file.  2 ways I've tried will produce a report of single object or combine all of the table into a single string (where I am now).  I think the main problem I have is that I have to create a 2D within my service to push toward the final table that is written to the CSV format.  Basically, I do not understand how to push my variables in a loop of a table.

    Any help or assistance?

    Thank you

    B

    BOOM!

    Added some comments, removed the hardcoded in the csv temp file, deleted path the hardcoded port 25 for SMTP - mail settings should come from the configuration of the MAIL plug-in. And fixed / confirmed that the workflow now includes the attachment for e-mail and ends with success!

  • Method to move the virtual machines in the data store temporary so I can rebuild pool recommended NFS

    Our current data store is a mounting NFS on Nexenta (zfs), which has a pool, I need to rebuild (migration of raidz2 to mirror striped for performance). Initially, I was relying on the judgment of all virtual machines, create a new pool, copy (cp - r) of the Nexenta console all virtual machines to the new pool, recreating the pool mirror and then copy (cp - r) all the data back.

    I have seen several discussions on this topic and seems like the simplest method would be to use the feature to "Migrate" so that the virtual machines are not fragmented. However in some of my pre-test when I copy a virtual machine between the basins of the Nexenta console it appears (from the data store Explorer) to initially create the vmdk provisioned and then once completed it copy looks too thin.

    I hope that I can simply copy the Nexenta console, using the option "Migrate" in vCenter on each of my 40 MV looks like it would be * quite * tedious compared to the simple issuance of an order of 'cp - r' and leave all the copies of VMs (1.5 to) during the night and then adding them to each host.

    Does anyone have experience with this? Or maybe a way to generate scripts easily (?) the option "migrate" in vCenter?

    Thank you all!

    You can select multiple VMs in vCenter regularly using CTRL + click or shift + click and both migrate them as long as they have the same storage destination.  You can also schedule it as a task.    Add manually each computer virtual back in hand is not less painful than migrating individually, anyway.

  • Let me know scenarios when different virtual machines with the same UUID are created in VMware Hypervisors?

    Let me know scenarios when different virtual machines with the same UUID created in VMware Hypervisors, aside from editing the .vmx file?

    The only other way I've seen is when you manually copy the virtual machine to another location on the data store (or another data store) and then when turn on/off the virtual machine, select I moved, rather that I copied it (the default option).  This will keep the same UUID.

  • Create the virtual machine with the ISO mounted CDROM

    Community of hell!

    Working on the vmcreate.pl script to add the creation of CD-ROM with iso data store, I got stuck on the error

    ' Invalid device configuration: ' VirtualSCSIControllerOption.numSCSICdroms '.

    I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, or this option but may not understand how to deliver this.

    I created a cdrom as follows (below test I create any CDROM, no iso file to reduce the number of layers):

    my $ BPPRR m_backing_info = VirtualCdromRemotePassthroughBackingInfo->new)

    deviceName = > ' '.

    exclusive = > 0,

    );

    my $description = description->new(label = > 'CDROM', summary = > 'cdddrom');

    my $connectable = VirtualDeviceConnectInfo->new(allowGuestControl = > 1,)

    connected = > 0,

    startConnected = > 1,

    ( State = > inmates ' / ' );

    my $ BPPRR m = VirtualCdrom->new(backup = > $BPPRRm_backing_info,

    connectable = > $connectable,

    controllerKey = > 0,

    deviceInfo = > $description,

    key => 1,

    ( unitNumber = > 1 );

    VirtualDeviceConfigSpec->new(device = > $BPPRRm,

    operation = > VirtualDeviceConfigSpecOperation->new()'add'));

    Did anyone have working example to create the virtual machine with CDRom?

    Andrey

    If someone will find this useful I followed this route Re: vmreconfig.pl add the device CD/DVD fails if the virtual machine created with vmcreate.pl

  • create a new virtual machine with the default settings?

    I was wondering if there was a way to create a new virtual machine with the default settings.

    For example, let's say I want all new Lion VM to have 2 CPU cores. Is there a way to set this automatically? There are other parameters I want a new machine to inherit automatically, I was wondering if there is an automatic way to do this, or is it a feature request...

    Just for my clarification, when you say a vm model, basically I would execute a finder copy then drag back to the VM library, right?

    Yes.

    On the orders of spcirpting, it would be unix commands or are there specific vmware controls that make your job easier (in Applications/VMware\ Fusion/content or elsewhere)...

    IIRC, VMware Fusion 3 and later versions has an AppleScript dictionary, but it is not yet officially supported and may not be able to do what you want so, basically, only Unix Shell scripts, that's what I was referring to.  For an example, see my script attached to the following response: Re: vmware - script of the creation of the vm and the operating system installation process

  • Create the virtual machine with the type of controller SCSI LSI logic SAS with PowerCLi

    Hey guys,.

    IM the difficulty to create a virtual machine with the type of controller SCSI to "LSI Logic SAS". The cmdlet New - VM im struggling to find where to create the type of controller?

    If you create a virtual machine without specifying a disk it will create a 4 GB SCSI type thick (0:0) hard drive 1 with 0 Parrall default BusLogic SCSI controller.

    What im wanting to do is to create a disk hard which is thin Prov. and create SCSI LSI logic SAS controller is set to.

    New-VM -name VMSTORE23 -$vmhost $esxhost MemoryMB- 4096 NumCpu- 2 -NetworkName "Vlan 6 Machine Virtual Network" | Get-NetworkAdapter | Set-NetworkAdapter -Type Vmxnet3 -MacAddress '00:50:56:00:00:21' -confirm:$false

    I have recived of aid by some LucD who helped direct the value of the network card in the New - VM cmdlet as follows. But I'm not able to add a hose for hard disk also like:

    | Get-hard drive | Together-hard drive - Datastore $datastore - slim StorageFormat

    And I have no idea how change the type of SCSI conroller or create it with the correct configuration?

    Any help would be great,

    Thanks in advance

    Eddie

    Greetings, steddyeddie-

    You should be able to use Set - hard drive and SCSI controller Set cmdlets to set the storage format of your hard drive and the SCSI controller type, respectively.  You were close to on the part of game - hard drive .  Try something like:

    ## get the VM object $vmVMSTORE23 = Get-VM VMSTORE23 ## set the harddisk storageformat to thin$vmVMSTORE23 | Get-HardDisk | Set-HardDisk -StorageFormat Thin ## set the SCSI controller type$vmVMSTORE23 | Get-ScsiController | Set-ScsiController -Type VirtualLsiLogicSAS

    It could pack in to your existing order to keep it as a good word, but for readability.

    Enjoy

  • How can access us the Client on a virtual machine on the host ESXi VI?

    Good afternoon, we are evaluating a virtualization solution, our company is small and we want only 3 servers to virtualize, and we want to use one of the virtual machines on the ESXi host, using the Client of VI, so we can use the keyboard and the screen of this server to access virtual machines. Our idea is to use this virtual machine as a workstation.

    Is this possible? or we use VMware server?

    Kind regards

    Cristian Fernández

    It is really not possible. Since the physical ESXi console, you will see only the menus and COS screens.

  • Import the virtual machine created with .exe files

    Hello

    I'm new in the world of the virtual machines, and I'm sorry if I'm going to say something stupid.

    I take a .net class and the teacher has a virtual machine (windows XP with software) ready to pose with 4 .exe files.

    I installed VMfusion but now I have no idea how / if I can import the teacher VM fusion.

    Is this possible? If this is not the case, what can I do else?

    Thank you very much

    Luca

    Find a Windows PC and run the exe files to extract the virtual machine, precompiled.  Just copy the folder of the entire virtual machine on your Mac, and then open/run the virtual machine using the merger.  VMware virtual machines are portable between products and host operating system - there should be no reason to "convert" or "import".

  • What should I do to use Workstation to open a virtual machine created by the merger?

    Because my MBP is in the shop for repair, I need to use on a PC Workstation to open my VM created by Fusion on a Mac. I copied the VM to a NTFS drive and thought, I'd go, but when I try to open the virtual machine in the Workstation 6.0.5 build 109488, I get a message saying that the configuration of the virtual machine file contains features not supported by this version of Workstation. What should I do to access this virtual machine? I have more access to the merger, because it is on the machine in for repair.

    Update your workstation 6.5.x (current latest version is 6.5.1) in support of hardware virtual version 7.

  • Question: Can store virtual machines on the same drive as ESXi?

    I'll be downloading the trial soon and construction of a test at home server. I see that the minimum requirements are that 80 GB for ESXi but does that mean that ESXi needs 80 GB to be run in addition to virtual machines?

    I want to just prepare for the way I need to build it. Will be need ESXi on it's own hard drive must be installed, and then the other hard drives for data storage?

    Welcome to the community - the best practice is to seprate the storage that you House your virtual machines are the disk that contains the ESXi software - I don't think the 80 GB will be inlcude nominal VMFS datastore but I would invest in a disk drive inexpensive in order to give you more storage.

    Another suggestion to get tested as painless as possible - to confirm that the hardware you are using is supported - http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

  • Put virtual machines inside the VMkernel port group

    Hello

    Network for administrators of VMware SIAS layout:

    "You can not put VMs within that group of port because it is made especially for a VMkernel port."

    However, I use ESXi 5.5 and is able to put normal interface of VM inside the vmk port group. (I only created 1 vmk port group so all virtual machines in the same group with the vmkernel interface)

    May I know if this is a new feature, or something is wrong?

    Thank you!

    This may be possible with distributed switches not with standard switches.
