    Hi OldScientist,

Before performing these steps, it is recommended to make a backup of your important data.

Step 1: Mark Disk 1 (C) as active partition, then launch Startup Repair

  • Vista 32 bit Home Premium upgrade to Windows 7

I have been using Windows Vista, 32-bit, Home Premium with success.  Recently, it has been suggested to me that I had to upgrade to Windows 7.  I want to keep, at least, I currently have the same capabilities.  I have a few questions.

    1. because I don't want to back up or modify files or programs, is it wise to upgrade to Windows 7, 32 bit, Home Premium?

    2. in the case, which version do you recommend?

    3. should I download it from Microsoft or do I have to download it also?

    4. If not should I buy in a store?  Could you recommend one?

5 is it complicated to install?  Do you know a good site that could help me to install it?

    6. Finally you would give a price range that I have to pay?

I know this has been long, but it seems to be a complex issue.

The only legal Windows 7 download available is now Microsoft, as Microsoft has stopped DigitalRiver Windows 7 ISO downloads.

  • How to restore vista 64 bit on sony vaio to factory without backup system disks?

I made a mistake, took my sony vaio vgn-fw265d with windows vista home edition for futureshop to solve problems,

as my recovery disks have been corrupted. they installed windows vista 64-bit, but I've lost factory sitting, now some hardware not

    working as blueray etc.

    Hello

1st thing I would do is to bring your SONY VAIO at Futureshop and get them to fix it properly

    or

Contact sony and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

    http://eSupport.Sony.com/

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F10 or F11 or Alt + F10, 0 at startup to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

Save all data, because it will be lost, do the above

  • Error code 646: Windows Vista re Office 2007 SP 2 through Windows Update

I am running Vista Home Premium, SP1, 32-bit.   Office 2007 SP1 is installed.

I've restored an Office 2007 SP2 hidden (and almost forgotten) update.   Failed twice.  The error code is 646.

Since the update wouldn't install and just sitting there, looking at me with a big red FAIL on it, I hid it again.   Please let me know if there is a procedure to follow?

BTW, I ran into the same problems that other posters have recently that some updates installs successfully through Windows Update, others I had to install directly on the Microsoft site.    Once the updates have been installed manually, of course, they were not offered by Windows Update.

Should I give the Office 2007 SP2 a whirl and try to install directly from the MS Download page, or is there something else I should do/check before this attempt?

    Thanks in advance!

Download Office SP2 on the download site and try to install manually.

  • Vista do not install SP1 by using Windows Update (do it manually)

    Hello

    Revised.

If you have a Vista without SP1 and 2, DO NOT listen to Microsoft technicians and use auto update / windows update / microsoft update (until after you have installed SP1 & SP2).

My recent experience and other posts, it won't work.  Manually download Vista SP1 and SP2 for Vista and install manually (SP1 first).  I lost hours with updates auto that I didn't need and made a mess.

    Vista SP2

I just made a custom cleaning of a perfectly fine using a DVD of Vista Utilmate XP machine.

After installation, he made the automatic updates ~ 106 and is now stuck on Vista SP1.

Updates keep offering it, downloading, but I can not install.  About 5 or 6 times now.  It will take me to the user agreement, and after that I agree that it is said installation will take some time, but it never loads.  I had once an error message indicating I needed IE 8, but when I downloaded for XP/Vista, I got the error that IE 8 does not work on my system.

I have just downloaded maually SP1 and SP2 machine, try to install, but MS it not recommended to some BS something and I would give them $189.  I was hoping someone might have an idea on how to get the auto update function to work to see if my manual Visat SP1 and SP2 (extract from the official MS site) may work 1.  MS supports was no other real help that they suggested to purchase Windows 7 at Wal-Mart, but I don't think that the old machine is worth 86 dollars.  They shouldn't tell you online they will be support for vista until 2017, then try to charge you once you've invested time in it.  They can even do it on purpose (not technicians, but the management).

  • Windows Vista freezing, problems starting mode safe mode, Windows Update does not work, etc.

Hi all. I am operating Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1, 32-bit on an HP Pavilion dv6000.

My problems started about two months ago, when I installed several updates through Windows Update. I started having problems with my USB ports (even if these pilots were not being updated) and the computer was never able to close successfully. I tried to uninstall these updates, but that did not fix the questions I had. I have also installed software (AutoCAD 2007) at the same time and uninstalled, nothing helps.

Then my computer started to freeze after running for a few minutes. Time seems to vary from 5 minutes of good use for 1 hour, but I found that it works only because this so long, I only open a program or file and use it all the time (for example, reading a book in Adobe Acrobat format). If I try to open the program or additional files, go to control panel, etc. (read: if I do everything related to Windows Explorer) the computer crashes. I can still move my cursor but none of the windows meet, and I can't ctrl + alt + delete to enter the Task Manager (I get a black screen).

I was manually shut down my computer every time that happens and boot in SafeMode several times. Sometimes when I try to start safe mode it is hampering the crcdisk file and turns off. It happens not every time, however. Sometimes, when it starts it running the disk check, and there has been some index files that it has been deleted and orphaned files that it has been moved.

I tried to do a system restore to a point before the updates I've installed in October, but my computer has no points system, restore even if he says it was their creation before you install these updates.

The last problem is that when I go to Windows Update, it says that I have never checked for or downloaded the updates in the 15 months that I've had the computer - is not true, I, he lost at the time of all the record of it. So although I would like to provide you with wonderful with a record of what I've updated and people uninstalled, I can't because all this information is gone. In addition, I can't connect to the internet to try to check the news updates, because our internet service runs a USB modem, which is not communicating properly with my computer.

I hope someone has an idea of what's going on. I just can't understand the common point that all these questions arise, my technology skills are somewhat limited, so I hope for a relatively easy solution.

    Sarah

BTW, all my files were backed up on external drives.

I don't know Jack about computers, but I don't know that I went through almost exactly the same thing.  My pc was ok, then in a month or two, it took a nose dive.  something I did was too that much could not think of everything.  A friend told me to reset my bios to default settings and see what happens.  After having spent only 7 hours trying to teach myself on bios, I got stabbed in this area and it worked.  Everything is great runnng.  Now I can even right click on icons without crashing.

My laptop was to install windows updates and turn off.  He has been installing update 7 or 9 for several hours.  I think he is stuck and I can't stop it, restart, or stop the update.  What should I do?

  • When Vista SP2 will stop receiving the normal Windows updates.

It was mentioned in another thread that Vista (I guess that SP2) reaches the end of mainstream support in April.

    I have seen this document,

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/products/lifecycle#section_2

which suggests to me normal stop support (Windows updates) in April.

Could you clarify it please exactly what it means for a 'regular' customer with a preinstalled copy of Vista or someone who installed it themselves via a disc OEM etc.

This means that Windows Update will cease to provide patches, etc from April this year for Vista SP2?

    Thank you...

    Hi Mooly,

Updates will still be available after April, there will be always some support for updates of security which are sent to the bottom of the Windows Update. According to article http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifepolicy
