  Unlike the AirPort Express, you cannot configure the old Time Capsule to join an existing network to use as a wireless Ethernet bridge. Instead, it will have to be configured to extend the network of the new extreme wireless if you want that connection between them in order to be wireless.   There were always two schools of thought on this point, then you will have to pick the one that seems the most credible for you.

  (1) some users say that the turn off the TC regularly will prolong the life of the product as food does not work all the time.

  (2) other users noted that turn off the TC and it feeds and then upward on a regular basis imposes constraints more on electrical and electronic power, than to let the TC all the time to the "idle".

  The debate has been ongoing since the first day.  The best compromise would be to power off of the TC if you plan to be gone for more than a few days of vacation, for example.

  I saw a few posts on this subject but they don't help me, but then again I'm not an expert! What I wanted to do, is to set up my new 2 TB Time Capsule (the high) using all the old settings.   Connect your computer to the TC using ethernet... you change wireless wireless and guess what... you're sawing off the branch on which you sit.

  If your computer does not have ethernet or you have no computer in the House that still has the port most important in the world... so that you never get yourself backed into a corner wireless even once, then buy a bolt of lightning for the ethernet card.

  Alternative method.

  This is not 100% kosher, but should work.

  On the old TC export the configuration.

  To do what you want, the new AirPort Extreme 802.11ac would be installed as the "main" network router The time Capsule would be connected to the AirPort Extreme, using a wired Ethernet cable connection, and the time Capsule should be configured to run in bridge with the service Mode Wireless off.

  Any Mac you want to save in the time Capsule would need to have Time Machine preferences on each Mac adjusted to ensure that the time Capsule has been set as the target for backup.

  2. have you done any hardware changes or software on your computer before this problem?

  This problem occurs when one of the following conditions is true:

  (a) an error has occurred during installation. The update has not been installed.

  (b) the update has been installed. However, a file was not updated to restart the computer.

  FWIW, the 4th generation of Capsules of time had problems with their power supplies, specifically because of an overheating. This may not be directly related to your question; However, you use a replacement drive that may be overloading power of the TC.

  Given that the problem only occurs when access them the disk, which will rotate upward and consume more energy, may be the reason why you have this problem.

  Having done this in the past, I can say that it is possilble... but is not anywhere near the amount of time and effort it will take to do this.

  Even when I was successful, Time Machine has started a new backup of the Mac... it has not added on the old existing backups, so I lost a good part of the backup on the Time Capsule space.

  This will be easier if you keep just on the hard drive for a few months... in case you need to go back and pick up a file... While the time Capsule built a new story backups tons.  After 3 to 6 months, you will not need the old backups, and you can erase the disc and use it as a spare part.

  Did you remove the old path in the preferences of Time Machine that instructs your Mac where your old Time Capsule?

  If you do not, then the Mac will continue to seek a Time Capsule that does not exist and the report that he can't find it.

  The new TC will take the old values of TC... the old TC will be given factory.

Internet access and WIFI configured etc...).  I reformatted the HD to start from scratch.  And last updated as indicated by the Airport utility application.  The intention is to create a new WIFI area with backup (Time Machine).

  When you set up Time Machine I stressed the internal HD of TC, and then it says "connecting to etc...".  After a few seconds, a new mold box presents itself to ' enter your password for the server (name of TC) for Time Machine can access.  I enter the HD password I had setup in Airport utility with nothing doesn't.  I checked all passwords with Airport utility "Show passwords".  Tried all the passwords, and of course which none worked.  And Yes, I even try the previous passwords even if I had changed their

  I noticed that using the Airport 6.3.5 utility running on my OS X 10.10.5 machine I can see and change the TC.  But when I use another computer running 10.11.6 is the Airport 6.3.6 utility does not see the TC?

  (1) try to reset the password for the utility disk AirPort

  (2) open TextEdit on the Mac and type the password in plain text in an editor window.  This will allow you to ensure that all the keys on the keyboard are recognized.  I've seen cases where passwords fail again and again because of a problem with a wrong key on the keyboard or a habit of typing that makes you believe that you enter the password one way, but the result is something else.  Be able to actually see that typed password allows to check that.
