Access Internet WRT54G/PLTE200/WRT150N problems

And here's one for you the guru out there...

I have a complicated network.  I have a DSL modem connected to the port of my WRT150N (Router 1) intenet Novatel.  I have a lan connection to a Powerline PLTE200 adapter that is in communication with his partner Powerline router (Router 2) at the other end of the House.  I have a WRT54G (Router 3) linking ports numbered numbered ports and I have a NAS on one of the Powerline router ports.

I have install Router 1 as a server for LAN DHCP and DHCP disabled on Router 3.  60% of the time that I can access internet from computers connected to router 3 wireless.  If I'm in the middle of the House and unable to connect to the internet on the router 3 I can change for Router 1 and connect to the internet, but not on the router 3.  Router 1 is 192.168.3.1 and Router 3 192.168.3.2.  I can not access router 3 from a computer connected by wire to the Router 1.  I can't access router 1 from a computer connected wireless to router 3.

Router 2 is another of beasty entirely.  I tried using the Powerline of Linksys utility, but it is NEVER the Powerline router or adapter, even when I am connected directly.

When I run ipconfig I sometimes get unexpected addresses on the router 3.  DHCP is configured to 192.168.3.xxx and get the addresses of 169.xxx.xxx.xxx.  With 169 addresses, I can't connect to the internet.  In the last round of troubleshooting, I was not able to verify the addresses when I can connect to the internet.

Here is what I need help:

1. How can I connect to the Powerline adapters if they do not appear on the usefulness of current line?

2. can I disable DHCP on the Powerline adapters?

3. Why is it an intermittent problem?

4. is there another way to these routers cascading without crawling me through the attic running cable Cat 5?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

(1) I suppose you want all your computers in order to share all printers, Internet connection and possibly also to share files - is that correct?

(2) it sounds like your (Router 1) WRT150N is connected to the WRT54G (Router 3), using the connected ethernet port LAN port LAN cable - is this correct?

You have much too many problems to try to solve everything at once.  So first, you need simplify your network.  For the moment, disconnect the PLTE200 and Router 2 in the rest of your network.

We will work on Router 1 and Router 3 first:

Assuming that the answers to questions 1 and 2 above are Yes, then you must configure the Router 1 and 3 in agreement with my post at this address:

http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/Linksys/board/message?board.ID=Wireless_Routers&message.ID=108928

You can continue to use the 192.168.3.1 address for Router 1.

For simplicity (of the sort that I don't get confused) Please change the "local IP address" of the router 3 to 192.168.3.3

After completing the above configuration, test your system.  You should be able to access the Internet from a computer that is connected by wire or wireless to Router 1 or router 3.

Note that addresses 169.xxx.xxx.xxx simply indicate that you do not have a connection to the router.  This address comes from your computer, not your router.

Do not attempt to access the setup menus in the Router 1 or 3 of wireless router, often fails.  Always use a computer that is connected to your network to access the router configuration pages.

If you have trouble getting the Router 1 and Router 3 to work properly, stop, do not continue with the steps below.  You need to get the Router 1 and Router 3 correctly before continuing work.

*************************

Only after that you get the Router 1 and router work 3 correctly, if you are trying to connect the Router 2.

Router 2 need to be configured in the same way to router 3, except, please will be Router 2 use the address: 192.168.3.2.  Another channel that Router 1 or router 3 also affect Router 2.    Router 2 once the installation program, then he wire LAN port to the LAN port to the Router 1.  (Do not use the PLTE200 for now).  Make sure all three routers are running approriately.

If you have trouble getting all 3 of your routers works correctly, stop, do not continue with the steps below.  You must get all three routers works correctly before you continue.

********************

Only after completing all three routers works properly, and then try adding the PLTE200.  Note that the Powerline adapters must be connected to circuits that are on the 'same' side (left or right) of the electrical box.  You should not use the DHCP server in the power adapter holder online.  Will appear addresses DHCP of Router 1.   Carrier current adapters also prefer to be directly connected to the wall outlet, not to an extension cord.  The Powerline adapters also prefer their own made - they do not share a duplex Jack with another device.

  • Cannot access internet occasionally during the day. Having to reconnect.

    problem 169.254

My PC is running XP and is licensed and up-to-date. I connect to Internet using ISP Orange and a Livebox router. Occasionally, maybe once a day, I can't access the Internet or e-mail. I can't repair the connection, which is to get a new IP address. While in this condition I CAN access internet through my netbook, wireless, which also works in XP. This makes me think that my router IS connected to the internet. I can re - establish an internet connection by removing power to the router and reconnect the power supply after a few seconds. However, this process is very annoying that the router then takes about 3 minutes to make an internet connection.  I found that my IP (before the reset of the router) on my desktop connected cable (that has the problem) has been 169.254.16.60. I understand that it is the beach allocated to private networks. I tried all the suggestions including reset winsock, TCP/IP reloading, loaded the latest drivers for NETWORK card and disable my firewall (Outpost). My PC is permanently set to get an IP by DHCP. It lasts for almost a year now and I think I've tried everything. I don't want to reload XP. I suspect that this has started happening after I deleted a scanning program of free registry that I had downloaded from net ther. I have just run Microsoft Safety Scanner and it has reported, no spyware, malware or viruses. My AVG virus program and is up-to-date.

Anyone has any suggestions please. I'm not an expert by any means think (!) I understand what I'm doing!

    Mike

It might actually be your 'firewall' (Outpost)... that is causing your problem!

(What "adversarial"... with an integrated XP! Even if you say that it (XP) has been disabled! Not COMPLETELY allowing your router working properly, because it is "in conflict" with that, too!)

Turn it off (Outpost)... means that the software application still in your computer and always 'in conlfict"with the XP firewall.

In regard to the average of your software antivirus, crikey, why not OPT for the Microsoft Security Essentials?

    Yes, I did.

It's free, as long as the OS is legitimate, and, as they say,... yours is!

SET all SETTINGS... REMOVE, and everything is DONE (by the 'set up' scheduling)... for you.

(By the way, it uses AS it's very own firewall (firewall Defender)... or XP.) "They are much safer to use.)

Download it, it's ready to install, once you remove moy.

Update as soon as you have it installed, and properly "standing upward", nothing could be easier.

As for your router, I suggest you contact your ISP provider.

To help RESET your router once again correctly!

And, oh, one last thing... Stop your 'DIY '.

('Tinkering' would be used to do any bad problem much worse than it really is! By your own admission, you have done enough of that! Get it all right, even once, then leave well alone.)

  • Network AD - HOC detected on ipad 2 but access Internet No.

I use a Windows Vista (Home Pre Version). I use a wired internet connection on my laptop & I want to share internet via wi - fi on my ipad.

So for this I did the following -.

    1. Add the Ad Hoc network using a WEP password and
    2. share the internet connection option.
    3. successful connection and ok.

I am able to detect the network Ad - Hoc Wifi on my ipad but not able to access internet. Or make a sign of the wifi on my ipad.

I tried to use various Wifi hotspot software as Virtual Router / Connectify etc, but still the problem persists.

    Help, please.

Did you connect your ipad to the ad hoc network? Or just to detect, it is, after you have entered the password, you were actually able to join the ad hoc network?
In your PC or laptop, you must:
1 wired or wireless Internet connection shared.
2 wireless ad hoc network, which means that you need a wireless DEDICATED ONLY to this AD - HOC network card, so if in step 1 you choos to use the wireless card to share your Internet connection, then you will need a SECOND wireless CARD to configure your ad hoc network.
Your best shot would be to share Internet via the CABLE connection dedicated card wireless ad-hoc network.
In my case, I chose to share-wireless ad-hoc (2 wireless cards) wireless, I tested with - wireless, both working just end, vista ultimate OS, iPad 2.

    Hello

    Method 1:
Use the Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) mode, and check if it helps:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/Internet-Explorer-Add-ons-frequently-asked-questions

    Method 2:
I also suggest you to consult the Knowledge Base article and check if it helps:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/956196

    Method 3:
Check if you are able to ping Web sites. You can try the following steps:
    a. click on the Windows "Start" button, then select the 'Run' utility in the start menu.

    b. Enter the following command in the field 'Open', then click 'OK ':
    cmd

Command prompt opens in a separate window.

    c. Type "ping" followed by the URL of the Web site, you are trying to ping. You must leave a space between the 'ping' and the URL.

For example, ping Yahoo.com, enter the following command:

    Ping www.yahoo.com

    d. apply the command by pressing the key "Enter" on the keyboard. You should see the information on statistics for the address ping IP is entered, including the number of packets sent, received or lost.

If there is no packet lost, your Internet connection is working normally. However, if there are packages that are lost, you may have a problem with your Internet connection.

  • Cannot access Internet on Windows Update

I recently formatted my computer windows laptop. I'm using Windows 7 Home Basic Edition. After a day or two, I am unable to access the internet even if I am connected to the router. I even tried to access Internet through my cell phone using a hotspot. It too its display "NO Internet access. There is no problem with the router or my cell like everybody else uses it and its works very well. So I tried to system restore to a point where I knew I was able to use the Internet. And here it does not work... But even once after the windows update it stopped working. Again, I must use the system restore to make it work.

I can't find the source of this problem? Because of the windows update or something else?

The KB2705219 update could be the cause and uninstall that solved the problem for some users.

To uninstall an update - control panel, programs & features, [left side of the window] see installed updates. Wait until the system has finished the research for the list of updates. Select update required, then right click and Uninstall.

    But...

In another thread [my computer today installed windows 7 updates, but my internet has been lost.] But the network is visible. [what caused this?] a user has identified this notice - McAfee

Some customers may experience a loss of network connectivity and/or errors in McAfee Security Center after a recent update

While it remains that uninstall the Win7 update than kb2705219 solved the problem for at least two users, you should consider the McAfee fix. At least two users had also reported having removed then reinstalled McAfee earlier in the day and their systems have increased back & run correctly afterwards.

I had to run the MCPRT deletion a few times before and it caused a problem with the license if the PC was not connected to the internet during the abduction. Due cat of McAfee support reset their files in order to allow the relocation-reactivation. Here is their link cat - McAfee - media contains the link to the cat
