Access is denied!

I have a home network with a primary computer running Vista Home Premium, a tower of backup running XP Home Edition and a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The problem is that I also have an external SATA 1 TB hard drive and I want to 'Ghost' the C:\ disks of the laptop and the Tower of the backup. When I try to map a network from the Tower of the backup or the laptop drive, I get an "Access denied" error on the laptop and the Tower of the backup. I can 'see' readers in my network for all PC (Vista), the main machine and the XP machine, I can see and work with the C:\ drive on the Vista machine. But I can not access the external drive. What could happen. I tried a few of the resolutions posted in XP and Vista forums without success. Help, please!

Efrain salvation,

Follow the instructions below that may help you resolve the issue.

If an administrator needs to edit or change the permissions on any file or folder, then the ownership of the file should be taken. The owner can always change permissions on an object, even when all access to the object.

Follow the instructions to take possession of the external drive.

1. right click on the drive and select Properties.
2. in the Properties window, select the Security tab.
3. click on the button Advanced on the Security tab. In the advanced security settings, select the owner tab.
4. here, you can view the current owner of the file and also the ability to change their owner. Click the button change downstairs.
5. here, you can select the new owner of the file and apply the settings. You get a warning that you must close the file and open it again for the settings to take place of safety.
6. now, the owner of the file is changed to the new user.

If this does not work, let us try to activate the built in user account that may help you resolve the issue.

In Windows Vista, the built-in Administrator account is disabled by default. In previous versions of Windows, an administrator account was created automatically during Out-of-Box-Experience (OOBE) with a blank password.

An account administrator with a blank password is a security risk. To better protect the system, the built-in Administrator account is disabled by default in all new installations and upgrades of Windows Vista.

  • Visible ReadyDLNA, but access is denied

    Hello

I have a 1 TB external drive connected to my router. I can access the drive as a drive of the PC network via WiFi without any problem. - but I can't access the drive as a media server.

Both options 'enable media server' and "enable TiVo support" is enabled, the scan is set to automatic (well you do not click anything else here) and I gave the media server a name. It is visible on all devices - PS3, Yamaha, engineering app on Android phone, PC network drive...--> but NO devices can access! It said "access denied" the other said 'no file' windows says "connection was not accepted" etc... It is very annoying because he used to work before.

It is certainly a problem of router and not of any device as any device can open the media server. I just changed the settings on the router - only the name of the server, SID and so on. I have already restored the router to the factory settings, but it's the same then! "ReadyDLNA" is visible on all devices, but access is denied.

Thank you very much for your help!

  • Appropriate access is denied

On Windows XP Professional SP3 I tried to take possession of the C:\Program Files folder, using the method described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421, but after selecting the new owner (admin user) and clicking on apply, there is always an error:

    Security
Unable to set new owner on Program Files.
    Access is denied.
The system works correctly, except that when you try to install & H R Block tax software, installation fails when trying to set permissions. Which lead me to discover that despite be logged in as an administrator and have all permissions on the folder, I still could not take ownership.  There is none of the folders encrypted on this machine.  Many other packages have been installed, including the other years of & H R Block.  I can create and delete folders under Program Files.   On the owner tab, there are only two options under name: the admin user and the Administrators (the current owner) group.  What must I do in order to manage this file?

    Hi Ron,

I would say you turn off all antivirus and firewall on the computer and then try to take ownership of the folder and check if you are able to take possession of the file.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

If you choose to use Mcafee, download autoruns, which shows which takes over at the start and you can disable here.

    AUTORUNS

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902

Above is autoruns to loadup questions

If you still can't find the entry in the registry, download Autoruns.  Let it finish the scanning, then click the Services tab.  Find the name of the service 'wrong' in the left column ("Autorun entry").  Right click and select ' go to '.  You will go straight to the appropriate entry in the registry for editing.

I would like to examine what you load at startup. You should see if you have any programs from loading during the startup process, which can be changed on request.
With Autoruns, you can deselect an item which disables startup, or you can click with the right button on an item, then remove it. If you clear the check box that you can check back for re - activate the element. It is an approach much safer than editing the registry and better than using msconfig.
Another useful feature of the program is that you can click with the right button on an item and select search online to get information about the selected item.

When you use Autoruns, you will need to click on the "Connection" tab to see what runs at startup.

I would say that if you update your PC from SP2 to SP3 all your files will remain same.

Once you do a new Installation or a custom don't store all your network cards and other device drivers.
