On my Eee PC under XP Home edition tablet, I get the error "Windows cannot start the windows firewall/internet connection sharing (ICS) service" when I try to access my firewall. I also can't connect to my router Wireless Lan to go on the internet. This may be due to some viruses that have been deleted using Microsoft Security Essentials. But the problem persists. Could recharge SP2 solve this problem or am I condemned to reload the operating system?

When I go to start the Service for Windows drivers Foundation I get the following error message, cannot start service window drivers Foundation-User-Mode Driver Framework on local computer, error 31: a device attached to the system is not functioning
I was not able to find an answer in help
Unless you write your own drivers for XP and using the Windows Driver Foundation Service to help you debug, you can disable the WDF Service. It will be one less point to start your system and will not not just sitting there working day and night with nothing to do.
On some systems, if WDF is activated, you can begin to see some errors of svchost.exe like this:
Application error: the instruction at "0x7c91b21a" referenced memory at "0x00000010". Memory could not be "written".
The best solution for this problem is: disable the WDF Service.

Disabled all incoming in the Windows Firewall, internet connections still work
I have disabled all inbound connections in windows firewall, but not noticed any problem with my internet connection. Weird how? For example, I let Internet Explore establish outbound connections, but do not allow for it or any other service/program to receive incoming connections. But Internet Explorer still gets responses from the servers on the internet when the requesting State pages and I also get a response from the DNS server of my ISP when IE tries to resolve ips domains. Weird. I misunderstood the meaning of incoming connections or there is a huge security hole in windows firewall.
Hi Semjon,
This setting blocks all unsolicited attempts to connect to your computer. Use this setting when you need maximum protection for your computer, for example when you connect to a public network in a hotel or airport, or when a computer worm spreads on the Internet. With this setting, you are not notified when Windows Firewall blocks programs, and programs on the Exceptions list are ignored.
When you select block all incoming connections, you can still view most Web pages, send and receive electronic mail and send and receive instant messages.

Windows Firewall/Internet connection problems
Recently, a problem came with my Windows Firewall. I don't know what caused the change, but I'll be surfing the internet very well, when a small bubble appears in my task bar that says: "your computer may be at risk. No firewall is turned on. "This has happened in the past, but when I clicked on the bubble to check before, my firewall is activated, so I simply rejected it. However, just a couple of days I noticed that when this bubble came, my internet connection would fail temporarily. So, when I saw the notice again once my firewall was not turned on, I checked. It seems that Windows Firewall turns itself off tension. I have no idea why he would do this. I manually turned it on again several times, but still it does.
I run Windows XP Media Center Edition and (to my knowledge) have all the service packs/updates.

Well, I asked a friend gifted in computer science, he suggests Spybot. I downloaded spybot, scanned my computer and found a Windows Firewall security override in my registry. Deleted Spybot, and now all is well again. This is a very quick and easy solution.
I can do the most sophisticated malware cleaning below to another date, when it is more convenient for me.

Failed to start after installation ('no internet connection')
After installation, when I start one of the programs of TC it tells me that either there is no Internet time setting my computer does not. I checked that no proxy server is set and that (of course) my clock is set correctly. We have installed the CHT several times in the team without problems is not a firewall issue. Any ideas?
ADDING: I checked the four needed to record server address is accessible. Is there some sort of record in offline mode? It seems that even users who really have no internet connection (for example for security reasons) must be able to register...

Configuration of ICS in Vista or WIndows 7 - INternet connection sharing
I share my internet connection in our House with the following: 1 set up ICS in XP 2. wireless broadband - it's my internet connection source 3. wireless AP - that's where I connect other devices at home to connect above, the installer is ok when using XP. However, when I run Vista 64-bit and 32-bit same, above installation does not work. Vista does not allow wireless broadband internet connection (this a temporary connection, used only when necessary as a dialup connection) to share. Question? -How to make this work for Vsita or Windows 7 (also tried it and same problem happened.) Thank you

internet connection sharing by using the switch
I want to share the internet connection using the ethernet switch. the process is the dsl connection to connect to the switch, and then using the ethernet cable, I connect to the computer 1 & 2. the problem is when there is internet connection for comp 1, comp 2 did not and vice versa
This is because you do not need a 'Switch' - instead, you need a "router".
A router provides a NAT (NAT) function that will allow more than one device share an Ethernet connection. If you wish, you can connect a switch out of your router, but cannot connect a switch directly to a DSL modem and expect it to work for multiple devices.

Windows 7 Internet connection sharing unique question.
Hi I'm looking for help here.
I have a unique configuration that I used on Windows XP for a long time.
but I can't make it work on windows 7.Here's the Setup program.
Main link: USB WIFI Dongle.
is the one I want to sharean Ethernet connection. go to a WRT - 54G router.
The connection would be shared on the router. so, all of the devices in my house can also get internet.
But in windows 7, I am unable to do this.
On Windows XP, I just had to click Network Setup Wizard.
He would ask what your primary was (my USB key) and then secondary (my ethernet cable)But it's not working on windows 7...
Thanks for any help.
I actually use an almost identical installation at the present time;
3G dongle > XP box > router/AP access > network
I also had a Windows 7 implemented under the node of the ICS without problem - I'll have to see if I remember how to do it.
Select the Dongle adapter in network connections - right click and select Properties
On the sharing tab, put a checkmark in the box "allow other network users...". ", and then select any wired network is connected to the incoming router ethernet port.
Make sure that the router is set to 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 IP and mask
.. ... who should be.

Windows search Windows failed to start the service on the Local computer
OK, so it's a big, dirty and convoluted issue, so please bear with me. Any help is greatly appreciated! I start tearing my hair out on this one...
I'm on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
UAC is set to the lowest level 2The other day I have problems with the search box in the start bar. It is more was to find excel or other office applications and also he wouldn't orders base as cmd or Notepad. Whenever I run a command it returns an error like this (not exact because I have the exact error message):
Windows cannot find ': search query = cmd'
I searched a little and tried to rebuild the index in Control Panel > Indexing Options. It does not work so I uninstalled Windows Search and reinstalled. What I found now, is that the indexing service would not start and if I tried manually start from services.msc I would get the following error:Windows search Windows failed to start the service on the Local computer
Error 161: the specified path is not validThe event log showed me this Application error:
Cannot initialize the Gatherer service.
Details:
The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or inaccessible. Free space on the drive or verify that you have permission write to the Temp folder. (HRESULT: 0 X 80070660) (0 x 80070660)
Help!
Thanks Samhrutha.
Your proposed solution of editing the registry is the only solution I found to this day and still work.
The only drawback that I want to emphasize is that this fix causes completely reset to its default settings of windows search. Customizations to search what have been done by the user (e.g., windows search indexing user customizations options) will be lost.I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and occasionally experienced the same error message ( windows cannot find ': search query = XXX ", where XXX corresponds to my search query) try to search through windows when start menu search box.
Only recently, however, discovered one other cause possible/fix to this problem.
Specifically, I discovered that the error of windows search resulting from the ADDITION of a NETWORK LOCATION on the local computer (for example, via the menu option "Add a network location" that appears when you click the file menu in a window of windows Explorer displays the contents of the local computer (corresponding to the "COMPUTER" icon). The CENTER of my computer SYNC settings have been defined to disable the synchronization of network or file 'offline' and I suspect that this setting is also part the cause of the error of research. To resolve this problem, simply tell windows search not to include the 'network' location in the search index. To do this, one needs to access the settings of the windows search INDEX LOCATIONS (via Indexing Options-> change), then uncheck the box next to the network location (which on my computer starts as follows: oneindex: / / {s-1-5-21...)
After unchecking this box, click on the OK button and then CLOSE the button to exit the Options of Index window. After that the error message should hopefully not return. If so, try restarting the computer and research to test again.
Hope this helps!
