• Acer Aspire 5742 G died. I think the BIOS is damaged because all I get is a blank screen.

Access to the hard drive led is always off (not a single blink). Terrified. I thought it would be to display, but like I said the HARD drive light flashes once again.

  So I jumped to Google. Discovered it probably a BIOS problem. So I downloaded the BIOS Acer will, comes to be welcomed with a ZIP file of gibberish. I have no idead how to use this ZIP to update my BIOS. The exe file is not good as the PC starts no and all other methods seem unlikely given the boot selection is not yet possible.

  Can someone please guide me to the right maybe average to refresh my BIOS?

  My question is if I can remove the HARD drive of 1 TB of the laptop and put in this 1 TB of Samsung SSD? The laptop comes with 256 GB SSD already installed inside, so I was wondering if I could rock with this SSD and the Samsung TB 1 one as well.

  Until recently my laptop was automatically shut down and the fan makes a noise excessive even when I'm not under what whatsoever. My guess is that dust in the fan should be cleaned, but I'm not sure how to clean since it is a monohull. Any ideas? • Acer Aspire V5 - screen keeps going black - and the PC is not asleep

  Hello Acer community

  I experienced a few problems recently with my Acer Aspire V5, I made a return to factory settings (full erase).

  I came home today and maintaining the current black screen, even if the computer is not asleep.  I move the mouse and I see the office, but then after less than a second, it goes black again.

  There is no applied screensaver.  It's probably user error, but someone else knows this before and if so, how can I fix without having to go to the repair shop.

  Just in case someone else has the same problem, a few reboots and an update seem to have solved the problem.

A month back, I had installed Windows 8.1 as well and things were smooth until last night. Last night, when I installed Comodo Internet Security, the computer requires a restart, I did, and then my computer erased. I could not even reached the Acer logo at startup.

  As I tried to check the observation of details of covers them this white screen problem, Irealized that many people suffer from a similar problem. It seems that Windows 8.1 and an installation of a new antivirus may have led to this white screen problem. In addition, it seems to be a bios problem that the computer would not start and I hope that someone could help me with this problem.

My S7-392 has a built-in battery that I had to reset which allowed the laptop to reboot normally. As in, I was able to boot up to Windows 8.1. However, as soon as I logged into Windows, it hooked up soon. Do the restart 3 times triggered the automatic repair/update option. That I took and returned to Windows 8. I had a Bios 2.05 2.03 intead and I had to install 2.05 before making updates. I recommend you seriously all the people who use the S7-392 to strictly follow the installation procedure for Windows 8.1 mentioned on the Acer site.

  Please update your Bios to 2.05 before installing something new, especially a new anti-virus.

  Managed to find a solution that worked for me.   I write this to help those who like me have sought a forum where this problem has been fixed.  I sent to acer tech support and they finally gave me this procedure:

  Could you please go through the following steps to perform a power drain: 1. unplug the adapter from the laptop. 2. remove the battery. 3. press in and hold the button for about 30 seconds, then release. (You won't see anything happen) 4. connect the power adapter to the laptop. Make sure that the power adapter is plugged in. 5. Start the computer as usual. 6.   No, it will not work. DDR3 won't work at 1.35v and your laptop will provide just 1.35v. You must DDR3L.

  According to crucial, your laptop can handle up to 16 GB of RAM, so a 4 GB with an 8 GB stick should be good.  But the two should be DDR3L
