  Please right-click on any PDF on your system, then go to properties > under general, you will find "opens with". Here you will see 'change' option, by clicking on it, wil give you a window from which you can choose the Acrobat Standard XI as a default for PDF files.

  I'm updating Adobe Acrobat XI Standard 11.0.16. He is currently at 11.0.15. I check within the application using the check for program updates. It continues through the whole process and at the end, it starts the 'process of patch files' and then restores all. I then get an error during this says "Fatal error during installation" error 1603.

  I tried to manually download the update from the adobe below site. It fails as well, but it does not error.

  1 - restart the computer, and then reinstall updates

  2. If step 1 does not work, try to remove Acrobat from here cleaning tool: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat cleaning - Adobe Labs tool , and then reinstall Acrobat XI from here: download Pro or Standard versions of Acrobat DC, XI or X

  Step 3 - If 2 does not work, follow the steps that are given in this link:error 1603: a fatal error occurred during the installation of Adobe Creative Suite.

  1. Make sure that you are logged on as an administrator.
  2. Temporarily disable any antivirus software.

  About 8 months ago, we installed about 40 + Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.0 installations throughout our environment.  We then had the time to create a completely hands-free installation .msi, which turns off the automatic update feature and configures one a little more objects.
