  I took my laptop Acer in a shop repair to fix a broken power button and since then Windows 8 has been asking me to activate. I don't know how it happened as the repair guy was not supposed to make software changes and as far as I know he didn't.

  I changed around some permissions on drive C, make sure that my user name is listed as the owner and I still get the same error.
  I have reset Windows 8 by default using the method to clean it thoroughly and I STILL get the same error.
