Activation of Windows and Windows Update hang in Windows XP that is running under VirtualBox
I want to set up a Windows XP VM on my 32-bit Windows 8 so that I can run the original Myst game.
I own a legitimate copy of Windows XP (original packaging, CD, product key etc.) which is not in use (i.e. enabled) on any physical or virtual hardware.
I use VirtualBox to host the since Hyper-V virtual machine is not supported on 32-bit Windows 8 (sigh).
Installation proceeded like a charm, but I can't activate XP (hangs at 'check' connectivity) or can I install updates WU/MU (hangs "checking for updates... » ; I manually installed the SP3 JIC).
http://Forum.sysinternals.com/RSS_xp-activation-Wu-fail-this-is-bizzare_topic7859.XML suggests that the WGA validation is suspended.
MGADIAG, we get:

- You have security software installed on the computer?
- Since when are you facing this problem?
- You did changes to the computer before this problem started?
Before solving the problem, I suggest to create a system manually, Restore Point so that in this case, a problem occurs when performing these steps, you can always perform a system restore.
Step 1
Uninstall Windows Mobile device under Windows Vista programs and features. Access the link below and follow the steps in the article to uninstall the program.
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/uninstall-or-change-a-program
Step 2
Follow the steps below only once you have backed up the registry.
a. Click Start, in the search box of start, type regedit and press ENTER.
b. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.
c. in the navigation pane, locate the following registry subkey:
d. in the registry editor, navigate to the following location: HKEYCURRENTUSER > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS CE SERVICES > PARTNERS
e. check the keys referencing your mobile device and right-click on it and remove the keys.
Note: The problem may occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, follow the steps in the link below:

My RSS was resubmitted as I initially had the show on iTunes. My RSS feed is podbean. I've temporarily removed the show but have reactivated the account. After resubmit the RSS on a week ago, I have not even received a confirmation email that it is under review. Everything looks ok when submitting, but it seems that there has been zero activity for iTunes. My RSS feed is http://hardcoregeekcast.podbean.com/feed/
Please do not post several times. It may take at least a few weeks for a podcast to be evaluated after is submitted; You should have an email notification when you submit, but it's not unknown for them to go astray. Try to submit it again - you will probably find that told you that it's already been presented, which is a confirmation that it is under review and if it is just a matter of waiting.

I have the original disc and product installation key, of purchase. It only just happened, and I don't know what to do. I am very upset, however, because I used this version of windows since it was released. It's MORE than a little frustrating.

ESX computer object in Active Directory - pwdLastSet and horodateurs lastLogon
Hello
I am trying to determine the regularity of changes of account password and logons to the ESX host when added to Active Directory.
The attributes Active Directory I am referring here are pwdLastSet and lastLogon timestamps.
The ESX host will regularly change the password and thus update the timestamp?
A process runs on the host to raise an event for the opening of the regular session to Active Directory and then update the lastLogon time stamp?
Would appreciate a point in the right direction for documentation.
See you soon,.
Jeremy
Hello
I think that this is governed by your GPO settings on how often computer accounts to change their passwords. If your business has not changed this setting (GPO_name\Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options - domain member: maximum age machine account password) then it should be 30 days by default. Your ESX host must comply with this setting.
If you wish to arrive here's how:
1 enable SSH on one of the hosts joined to the domain (vCenter-> Configuration-> Security Profile tab-> properties-> launch SSH (above services)).
2. type 'cat /etc/likewise/lsassd.conf' (WITHOUT ' ')
That must return a great performance, but you will need to scroll to the top and find where it says:
# Lifetime machine password expiration
# Default: 30 d
# Minimum: 1 h
# Maximum: 60 d
machine-word of past - life duration = 30 d
I hope this helps.

Unfortunately, we are beginning to see occasional reports on the MS Community forums of such behavior involving MSE and Security Center - usually, but not always involving XP.
See the response of Reallyoldguy in this thread - maybe his fix will work for you: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/mse-protect_updating/security-center-reports-microsoft-security/9de04320-fc8f-4f57-bb87-192be2d29b22
If the MSE icon is green then you should be protected and cannot ignore thisSecurity warning center. The question seems sometimes resolve spontaneously after a few days.

You may want to consider the following threads:

Activation of Windows and Windows Update
I just finished rebuilding a computer of mine who went down because of a motherboard problem. After Installing Win 7 pro in the machine, I installed the drivers from the motherboard and drivers for network cards so I can download updates for windows. I have a valid key for Win 7 but when I try to activate Windows, it does not activate automatically, I have to enable the use of the phone. Activation takes more time but always succeeds, my problem is that when I get updates, I get only the first two updates, patches and update that 'fixed' Windows Update. After that, the computer will be sitting for hours waiting for the list of updates to download on the computer (I have a 100 Mbit connection to the internet) and when the list arrives, I select all updates and start the download. Then I wait... and wait... and wait... six hours or so later, when I check to see what's going down, I find that windows Update has CANCELLED all my updates and the message is that I should try again. This has happened at least a half dozen times in the last 4 days. I deleted the 'C' drive and reinstalled 3 times during this period. Whenever I have reinstall, it's fine. It's not until I try to do my updates that I have no problem.
Just to make sure I was not doing anything wrong and to make sure that the key that I used was valid, I borrowed a Win 7 Ultimate disc from a friend who was not using the disc or the key. I installed using the disk and the key, but I'm always running into the SAME problem... No activation automatic, only activate by phone and the same problem with getting the updates from Microsoft. happens? I've been building and installing software on the computers of the years and I've NEVER had this great difficulty getting windows updated.
I also need an answer to the question 'no activation via internet. Two Win 7 records with keys, we're Pro version, the other is the ultimate. What gives?
I want to thank two people who gave me suggestions so far. The update KB 3138612 has helped me to get updates and download, but get this... when I installed updates and Windows was finished and I wanted to restart, I did and to restart the computer I had more a C"" drive. Windows could not find the file on the disk "C", so now I have to reinstall.
* sigh *.
one step forward and THREE steps back...
After you have reinstalled (again), I got to the point where Windows gave me updates, so this time I decided to install some updates at the same time to see if it would happen again. I installed all the updates of .NET Framework with the exception of the most recent upgrade and decided to try balance updates to see if it would work.
No, he didn't.
So somewhere between 180 + updates is that hoops of my computer. I think I'll try for groups of 10 when you do updates so that I can whittle down of my reinstalls only three here on in... Once I find the update, then it will not be installed, and I hope that will solve the problem.
You can try this option.
These updates solve many problems with WU
(1) disable Windows update
(2) restart your computer
(3) manually to install KB3138612 and KB3153199 and KB3145739
(4) restart your computer
(5) enabled Windows update
Or you can install these updates http://wu.krelay.de/en/ but I think, that my 2 updates are ok.

Product activation message Windows and I can not get a c prompt
After that a recent installation reboot update, the following message appeared "Windows Product Activation - a problem has prevented Windows to check accurately the status of the license for this computer. To keep your copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft. You want to activate windows now? Yes No ".
Whether I click Yes it could restart the computer in verification mode of the disc and when the screen finally appeared was so the new message
I tried to restart under different modes and seems the same screen.
Finally got a safe mode screen and the followin message appears "Windows has no start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\hal.dll
Please reinstall a copy of the above file" Note: I don't know how to get to a prompt c from here I rebooted the computer with the professional disc of Microsoft Windows XP that came with the computer and may have to reboot from the CD, but here, I tried 2 options F2 which asks for a Microsoft disk recovery Application that when he uses the Microsoft disk I get a blue error screen "STOP: 0xF78D2524, Oxc0000034, Ox00000000, Ox00000000 ' and told me to run CHKDSK /F
If I just allow it to run the CD it goes back to the root of the windows error.
Please tell me how to get rid of this virus

My brother-in-law gave me his laptop Dell Latitude D610 to work on. It was loaded with virus and almost completely non-functional. I installed an old windows XP Home Edition SP1 upgrade disk (I had to insert my plu too Windows 98 disc) on it because I had no original disks supplied with the computer. I am therefore perfectly legal with that. I installed it and I activated it until I went through updates. When I finished updates of service pack to download SP2 to the execution of the method to update to SP3. I tried to install Microsoft Security Essentials however it would not load and said I had to VALIDATE windows. I already got it activated prior to all other updates. How can I fix it? When I try to validate windows all I see is a white screen, so I can't go any further! So basically I have 2 problems I need to validate (the computer says that Windows is already activated when I click on the button "Activate Windows"). And I get the white screen when I try to validate... Please help I know it's legal software, just old.
