Lightroom has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and needs to stop smoking. Help, please
Hi crystalc,
It seems that the preview cache has become corrupted.
You must go to the location where your catalog is stored via finder/File Explorer and get rid of the file ending with Previews.lrdata (not .lrcat)
Default location of the catalog is under Pictures\Lightroom

Have a problem with Lightroom 5.4. Given that the program crashed yesterday, will not start, it comes up with the message "Lightroom has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and need to quit." "Lightroom will attempt to solve this problem, the next time he throws." Except that it isn't, I get the same message and the program closes. Anyone know what I can do to fix it? Can not backup, can't do anything.

OK, go to the Lightroom folder (in images by default) and delete the folder/file ending with the extension.lrdata. Previews have somehow become corrupt.

LR has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and needs to stop smoking.
I have the trial version of Lightroom 30 days. I was able to use it for a week, but the last weeks of 1,5 to 2, it was locked up and that gives this error message. How to solve the problem? And how to reset the free 30 day trial? I wish I had the time using the product before deciding on the annual contract.

Thank you.
Delete the cache of the overview of the Lightroom folder in your pictures folder if you used the default location. It has the extension .lrdata.
You cannot reset the trial period.

Whenever I try to launch my 6 Lightroom, it says there "has encountered an error in its cache of the preview reading and needs to stop smoking". How can I fix?
Hi aubreyfrances,
Seems that your preview cache has become corrupted.
You must go to the same place where your catalog is stored and get rid of Previews.lrdata (not .lrcat) file
Then, launch Lightroom and check.

Anybody out there can help get LR works again.
Open LR 5 I see message "Lightroom has encountered an error in its cache of the preview reading and needs to stop smoking". I deleted the folder Preview Cache completely (saved). This does not solve the problem. What can I do next to load Lightroom?
If you remove the preview cache folder and the problem persists, then most likely you have found the wrong preview cache (it's for a different catalog previews) and you must find the right cache overview. You should use the search function of your operating system to find all files whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA and remove each of them until you can open your Lightroom Catalog.

Title says it all. Lightroom stops because he can't read in its cache of the preview.
Take a look at this topic, there is a solution.

Your catalog is stored on the hard drive.
By default, it is stored in Pictures\Lightroom
You must browse to folder Pictures\Lightroom via File Explorer and delete the Previews.lrdata folder.

Hi bigdoke,

- Navigate to the location where your catalog and delete the folder that says Previews.lrdata catalog Lightroom
- Now open LR and it should work fine.

I have not found any solution. You have an idea? Thank you.
Your preview cache was damaged and should be removed.
Using Windows Explorer or the Mac Finder, navigate to the folder that contains your Lightroom Catalog - usually within my pictures or photos.
Delete the folder with the name ending by Previews.lrdata. Do not remove anything else. Now, launch Lightroom.

Lightroom has encountered an error when reading the preview cache
What can I do to fix this? I bought my lightroom if it matters.
Hi Gary
Greetings!
You must remove the preview for your Lightroom Catalog Cache.
It is located in the same folder as the catalog in Lightroom. The name of the cache an extract ends with Previews.LRDATA and should be deleted. Not to be confused with *. LRCAT, which should not be deleted. Here is a picture of what it is named as default LightroomcatalogPreviews.Lrdata.
Location /Pictures/Lightroom on Mac and my Pictures\Lightroom on Windows Pictures/Lightroom on MAC
Delete this folder and restart Lightroom
Let us know if this helps
