Combining acute accent with Cyrillic text in InDesign
Nice day
Someone has never managed using Unicode, combining acute accent with Cyrillic text in InDesign? If so, I would like to know your operating system version and InDesign.
Thank you for your interest.
Giordano
I've never needed to do, because I have a personal dislike for combining accents (having been burned in the past in Vietnamese projects) but I can test it easily enough. It works without problem on CC 2015 on OS X Yosemite. I can test on a variety of versions and platforms, if you want to know something specific. I suggest that you tell us what policies should we use, too.
If you need Cyrillic with accents for some languages not Russians, there are a few ways to go. Once more, I recommend combining accents - you can still use the tool already thin to concoct a single precomposed glyph that is encoded correctly and don't risk getting an accent combining when you switch to a font that does not have the acute combination.

How to make an acute Accent?
I wish I had a letter with the acute on top - as you can see from the letter e in the word coffee.
Anyone know if this is possible when you create a title in first Pro (CS4)?
I'm on a PC.
First type ' (apostrophe) then the e followed by the space bar: e
or hold the ALT key and on the way to numerick type 130.
If you want an e with the accent to the left, press the GRAVE, then the e, followed by the space bar: e.
Or Alt + 138.
Google for: ascii character.

I use InDesign CS5 on a Windows 7 system. How to type accented characters? I know how to find the characters I want to in the glyphs Panel and insert them from there, by double-clicking on them. But I want to be able to type Spanish (or other languages) and enter the special letters from the keyboard without having to go back in the glyphs Panel. Is there a way to do this?
I used FrameMaker for years. It was relatively easy to type Esc +'+ to get an acute accented one. Is this possible as well in the ID?
Thank you!
Take a look at javascript composed of Peter Kahrel to see if he can do what you want.

Link with characters not ASCII
I'm trying to insert a link in the Pages v 5.6.2
The link to insert is: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generaci on_y
That is a perfectly valid link to a Wikipedia article (in Spanish), but it's URL contains a character not ascii (o)
When entered at the prompt of link Pages supposed is a bad URL and let the link by default (www.apple.com) or the previously entered if you change a link.
Is this expected behavior? This will prevent from many URL of wikipedia, not only Spanish, but many languages and also all the other pages that contains characters that are not ASCII, which are much like RESILIENCY now considers perfectly valid http://www.w3.org/International/articles/idn-and-iri/.
I don't know where to post this, so I leave it here. We hope to see this fix.
This is solved in the editor page links using substitution of encoding for the character of o as shown below. B3 C3 is the sequence of UTF-8 for this letter, and you discover that by launching the character palette (Edit menu: emoticons and symbols) and looking for the letter o. Latin lowercase letter o acute accent will be among the related characters, and when you click on this character, it will be apparent the UTF8 designation.

Search for combining diacritical characters in Unicode
Unicode allows to put accents different characters using diacritical signs. I'm learning Russian, and put accents on words makes a big difference. I use Alt-0769 (301 to hexacimal) to put in the combination acute accent marks, and I put these accents on any character. My problem is that I can't find any way to make Windows Search deal with these characters. In Unicode, a typical accented vowel will be represented by two Unicode characters. I need a way to get these characters in the search string. If I try to use Alt + 0769, the search box is a hollow box, but am not actually for her. Microsoft has a way to include Unicode characters less commonly used in search strings? Anyone found a way to search for words containing combining diacritics?

Unable to see the tilde characters correctly in SQL * Plus window BACK
Hello
I have a tilde character display problem in SQL * more correctly.
The environment is: Oracle 10.2.0.5 Server (Yes, I know, it is longer supported, but it is not possible to update now).
Database settings:
SQL > select * from nls_database_parameters by parameter.

Data are inserted and displayed correctly by the application (Oracle Forms 6 - Yes, I know it is old and not supported more :-)))
The only problem is that I can't view "tilde one" or "o tilde" correctly when you use SQL * Plus window BACK directly connected to the database. Other accented characters appear very well (acute accents a, for example).
If I use the SQL Windows * more available in point 10.2 so all the characters appear correctly.
NLS_LANG and code page are correct.

Bad displays data:
SQL > select notes to atj_disc_cong where Ref = 645; -See attached screenshot Snap1.jpg
However, the data is stored correctly:
SQL > select dump (notes) in the atj_disc_cong where Ref = 645;
DUMP (NOTES)

Typ = 1 Len = 21: 231,32,227,225,224,226,32,233,232,234,32,237,236,32,243,245,242,224,32,250,249
Also, if I copy the wrong characters has resulted in Word, they appear very well (that is, I get a tilde correctly a)
No idea why they are not display correctly in SQL * more?
Thank you
The data is stored correctly, as shown in the PICTURE, even if you really do not have the data expected if I'm only guessing.
The problem is most likely with the police. Your command prompt is implemented with code 850 (WE8PC850), but the police page seems to be in the code page 437 (US8PC437). You should change the font to a non-raster font or change page codes and NLS_LANG to the code page 437.
Note, do not define NLS_LANG in system properties, because it affects so Oracle Forms. Set only in the command prompt given.
Thank you

How to convert char Spanish AL32UTF8 to ISO-8859-1 with sqlplus in linux?
I have the server 11g with NLS_CHARACTERSET with AL32UTF8. I need to have a varchar2 column, which contains the Spanish character, converted to ISO-8859-1 the output of sqlplus.
So, I put in the bash shell script
'export NLS_LANG = AMERICAN_AMERICA. UTF8'
or
'export NLS_LANG = AMERICAN_AMERICA. AL32UTF8'
And then, I don't
iconv-f UTF-8--t TRANSLIT ISO_8859-1 / / infile.txt > outfile.txt
Two NLS_LANG settings have the problem.
For the two parameters of lang, if I
file - bi infile.txt
It gives text/plain; CharacterSet = utf-8
However
iconv translated
Who Gomez in Gomez who.
Why the e and o and others not translated correctly?
How I translated the Spanish character correctly from the output of sqlplus?
Thank you.
The problem is that your data is stored in the form of decomposed Unicode, which is legal but rarely used for Western European languages. 'e' is stored as 'e' (0 x 65 = U + 0065) more combining acute accent (0xcc, 0 x 81 = U + 0301). Most of simple conversion, including the conversion of standard Oracle client/server tools, do not take into account this and does not convert the characters broke into a character previously composed of ISO 8859-1. They are trying to convert each of the two codes regardless, 'e' performance as well as a replacement for the character of emphasis, that does not exist in ISO 8859-1. You see the result correctly in SQL Developer, because there is no conversion involved and the rendering of SQL Developer code is able to combine the two codes into a single character, as expected.
As the 'e' and 'o' made up forms in Unicode and ISO 8859-1, the work around is to add the COMPOSITION function in your query. Thus, set NLS_LANG as I've mentioned previously and add new MESSAGE around the expressions of columns to your query.

Special characters and accents on the smart keyboard?
How to type special characters and accents on the smart Pro iPad keyboard? For example, I like to write "Róisín Murphy" with accents in the name as shown here. But I can't find a way to do it. Are there not as a software keyboard that I can draw on screen for those?
Thank you.
If you have your English keyboard, then you can use the standard Mac shortcuts. For acute, you more e option, then the basic letter. e is more e, then e option.
If you have your keyboard to something else, like Italian, then it might be different. That your keyboard is set to?

text box appears for the accents on letters
I have a new iMac dating a week who continues to appear in the text box for the accents and resumes typing (slowly). Support contacted today, they don't know, reset pram or something, no change. I have to restart the iMac to clean so I can type, takes about 10 minutes.
Thanks, Geoff -
How to type accents in Spanish on my mac keyboard - what is options?
There are two methods. A methods depends a bit if you have typamatic keys defined in keyboard preferences.
The simplest is to type, at full speed, Option-e + < vowel > looking for regardless of the regular vowel with an accent:
e, a, i, o, u.
The second is the key < vowel > and in a short time a selection of possible accented characters will be displayed above it and can be clicked of course, but typists will want to note the gray numbers under each variation and type the number appropriate rather than having to mouse to get what you want.

Adding accents for Pinyin El Capitan 10.11.5. I have no accent mark tonal pinyin 3 which looks like a rounded v only on the bottom or a little flattened U. I tried using simplified pinyin but makes me Chinese characters when tapped. I found a keyboard in the system of preferences that has this accent mark however the accent mark appears to the right of the typed letter emphasis must be on the letter typed. Any ideas?
Best regards Raymond
To type pinyin normally you use the ABC Extended keyboard layout (formerly US extended). A list of the shortcuts is to
http://symbolcodes.TLT.PSU.edu/accents/codemacext.html
3 Tone is the caron, who is really a form of v.
You shouldn't have any problem getting it above the letter, if you use the v option, then the vowel in ABC Extended. ǍĚǑǓ
