  I use InDesign CS5 on a Windows 7 system. How to type accented characters? I know how to find the characters I want to in the glyphs Panel and insert them from there, by double-clicking on them. But I want to be able to type Spanish (or other languages) and enter the special letters from the keyboard without having to go back in the glyphs Panel. Is there a way to do this?

  I used FrameMaker for years. It was relatively easy to type Esc +'+ to get an acute accented one. Is this possible as well in the ID?

• Portege R600 - type accents in WinXP [solution inside]

  I've been dealing with this since I bought this laptop 2 years ago, and I found a solution, so I thought I should share it with you in case someone experienced similar problems.

  I often need to type special characters (e, e, e, e and similar to a, i, o, u) in my browser, but I can't use the keys on my keyboard. The standard way to do this is to type, for example 'AltGr + 0234' go e. However, on the R600, the 4 is also the left arrow of the keyboard fn, which means that my browser active the back button. Therefore, I can not type this symbol in my browser.

  I can't use dead keys since I need regular 'e', a, etc. 99% of the time (I'm a programmer) and even with dead keys, it does not always work though. So, I resorted to inefficient solutions such as the opening of the charmap and select the symbol, or as type the symbol in Notepad and copy/paste. But this isn't a real solution.

  I just found the real solution today: http://code.google.com/p/usialtgr/ this moves the dead to the alt - gr key, keys which allows me to schedule without worries and allow me to type special characters commonly with AltGr and without any other problems. It made me so happy I thought I should share it. :-)

  Since I have updated to OS X EL Capitan, if I hold down a button the pop-up with accented characters will not appear. By pressing the button for one second I can't type anything for like a minute. How can this problem be fixed?

  Try to go to the sources of the system/preferences/keyboard and add Spanish or French to the list, if they do not exist, then restart.

  I write normally copy it into a text editor (TextPad), paste into InDesign and format in the story editor. Now I want to format it in TextPad and import the tagged text.   Not true. My example starts in Indesign, go to NoteTab (I have no TextPad, but I think that NoteTab is a pretty close contender), then back to Indesign.

  Try this: start Notepad, type some ALT characters, paste the ANSI-WINNER header at the top and that import into Indesign. TextPad is perhaps saving as something else than plain text.

  I can't fix it to bring up the contextual menu back, but in the meantime, you can press command + control + space to show the visualizer of characters and you can insert your characters increased from there.

  Thanks for your help. It was a very frustrating experience, not being is not in a position to have all the I type characters appear. I did a full scan and who was clean. I was not able to boot mode safe then I deleted all the programs that I installed for several months, but the problem of many characters not appearing not when I typed persistent. I was about to bite the bullet and to restore an image of my C drive from a hard drive external when I decided, just for completeness, to test the keyboard. I unplugged my wireless Logitech keyboard and plugged an old keyboard. Eureka! Typing all appeared OK. What a relief. I think that the rf in my wireless keyboard transmitter was at fault and that it was not send all the characters I typed. I should have checked the keyboard first, but it was only 3.5 years old and I couldn't believe that it went wrong so little time. All's well that ends well. Thanks again.

• How can I type the characters printed in green on the keyboard of Acer aspire switch 10?

  My (Northern) keyboard on my Acer Aspire switch 10 has some characters printed in green. This includes the backslash character I need desperately. However, I can't find any information in the manual or elsewhere about access (type) these characters. Help, please!

  I tried now. With the help of the button Fn-type only the characters printed in blue. The backslash is printed in green, as is the Danish æ and 0-slash (o). Explaining the problem to my wife, she wanted to give it a go. And to my surprise it resolved in less than a minute. I had missed that the backslash WAS ALSO printed in white on the same key as + and? so, to be able to type it, all I have to do is pressed the Alt - Gr key pressing this key. Stupid of me to do not see it the first time around.

  Getting back to the question initial on the characters printed in green, I came to the conclusion that it is "conversion" of the keyboard in a Danish provision of individual countries by specifying this keyboard layout in Windows settings. Similarly, there are a few characters printed in red. I assume these are Norwegians.

  This type of complexity, that's what you get when manufacturers want to reduce country-variants for as little as possible, I guess.

• Dell XPS 13 type special characters with keyboard

  I'm unable to type special characters with my Dell XPS 13 with Windows 8 pre-loaded. For example when you type ' ^ ' followed by 'e', you should get 'e '.

  My previous 13 XPS with Windows 7 preinstalled worked well. I loaded all the latest drivers, but the functionality is still missing. Is there a setting that needs to be turned on? Or are still missing drivers for Windows 8?

  Looks to his saying that your json file is misformatted, not if your accented characters are a problem.

  There is no setting that allows you to set the number of character lines. You could get the CPL average via a script, making it easier to set the width of text frame in order to get an average of the target.

  I was surprised by this error. Any who see it this way? I was doing some affinity for the cluster rules. At the beginning when there was no vmgroups, hostgroups, no virtual machine to the rules of the host, this command worked very well, that no errors were generated. According to the rules of antiaffinity of vm-virtual machine, I did a few groups of MV, the host groups and created AA rules for this cluster as well via the api.  Everything has not worked well, no errors when creating. But after a few days, I wanted to add 1 more AA machine vm-virtual rule. And I received this error, no idea why this would come to the top? This error appears, but the rule is created anyway.
