Add disk 3,5 '' SATA for Optiplex 780

I have a new (refurbished) desktop Optiplex 780 DT.  It has eight USB 2.0 connectors and not 3.x of USB connectors. I also have a 1 TB 3.5 '' SATA of an old machine (RIP) (WD1001FALS).

1. do I have to add a card USB 3.0 update, I can use the external USB-SATA interface I 3.x USB speed.  I know the jury in the case, but what power and functional interface connections are available inside the case, or at least on the motherboard?

2. what happens if I wanted to do an internal SATA drive, is there a (power and interface) connectors inside for that?  There is a white board which implies that I could fit the drive there, possibly with after-sales support.  Otherwise, I have it positioned as a mini tour, so I pose just the drive inside where it fits.

3. If I had to choose to use the esata to the rear connector, is there a way to get power to the drive off the beaten track?

Thank you

Jan

Hi Jan,

Here's the manual for your Opti 780:

There are two openings for a disk 3,5 '' HARD so lots of room inside. You will probably need a data cable, but there should be a spare power connector. There is 1 SATA and SATA 2 ports. Check the manual to see which is which.

ESATA or USB, you will need an external enclosure. But any USB 3.0 expansion card update should be compatible with your system.

  • Three Options for Optiplex 780 follow-up?

We have about 25 users who need 3 monitors for monitoring systematized and real-time data analysis. These users do not enter our requirement of workstation group. IE, they came away who need the performance of a workstation availability, although the need for the three monitors.  If it is difficult to justify one for their needs.

I hope it has a healthy option available to provide any Optiplex 780 and 760 users with support for three monitors. I must point out, these are the models of office, the second most available small, who is probably the choice that much more limited. Currently we run the standard ati DVI and the adapter y - vga allowing them their two monitors. If we add a second video card flat with vga connector, the system would allow the three monitor is to be active? (windows xp and windows 7). I don't see a low profile card that would allow two monitors off the dvi (vga y adapater) more a stand-alone vga.

Recommendations on how to do this without a rip and replace it?

    Thank you guys!

Not looking at the whole picture.   DMS - 59 to two DVI has 2 outputs.  Out of each DVI DUAL LINK is the sense it has a DVI - D and DVI - A so he can do 1 digital and 1 VGA monitor with the 2nd cable Dell.     If you use 2 cables with 2 outputs DVI - A, you get 4 monitors.

The other card more expensive that I linked has 4 DVI connections.

Does not seem to you look at the links however to make me wonder if you're just a bot posting endless questions.

  • Add card serial port of the Optiplex 780 desktop

I have a refurbished Dell Optiplex 780 compact desktop computer.  I would like to add an inexpensive PCI card that has two serial ports RS-232 legacy.  The description says that it is a "PCI to serial port card".  He mentions "for 5V PCI slot only."

I think the 780 will take this card, but I'm not well versed on the specifics of the new PCI standards.  This card will probably work?

    Thank you

    Jan

Typical PCI cards have one or two notches, according to voltage signalling. Cards requiring 3.3 volts have a notch 56,21 mm from the rear of the card; those requiring 5 volts have a notch 104,47 mm of the rear plate.  Universal PCI cards have two notches to allow them to be plugged into two system 5 v or 3.3 volt slots.

According to the Manual, the 780 has PCI 2.3.  PCI 2.3 supports 5 volt cards. Your slot machines are probably universal whereas they should accept a card with the notches or both. But be sure that

An important point is that the map you saw is low profile and full height. The manual said that 780 office accept "without editing card - up to two low profile cards. If you need to pay attention to the voltage more than just.

And the desktop version does not have a PCI-e x 1 slot, which means you need to find a PCI card.

Another alternative could be a USB > serial adapter cable.

    Hi Muhammad Danish,

Windows 8 compatible drivers for OptiPlex 780 are not available on the Dell support Web site.

Have you tried to check for drivers on the video card manufacturer's website? Based on the file name of drivers you mentioned, I think that your computer is the AMD Radeon HD 3470 graphics card.

    Nice day

    Thank you for your services.

I am trying to upgrade my desktop computer model # OptiPlex 780 and it's the standard I force the affected elements before, after I check what is the speed of compatible ram, voltage and timing, then I bought this model:

When I delete the original 2 GB Ram and installed this 4 GB ram on the first location, the departure of light 1 # & 3 led with sound as continuous hum without starter or windows interface.

    I tried to:

    -Change the slot

-Correction of the original 2GB ram in slot 1 then fix the new ram in slot 2 or 3 and 4

-Update the BIOS to version 15A and update all the drivers from dell.com

I have a 780 with the Intel E7500, Q45 chipset and A15 BIOS CPU and I'm running 12 GB of DDR3 RAM. Two 4 GB and 2 GB

Yep, catilley, I'm afraid, you're just wrong on this point - your info is old, apparently.  I, too, running an Optiplex 780 with an Intel Core 2 Quad 9550 CPU, chipset Q45 and 12 GB of DDR3 memory - in fact, it's the same machine that I write this response at this time.

As I posted a year ago on this thread, the official manual of Service from Dell for Optiplex 780 confirms it will take up to 16 MB of memory DDR3, 4 GB per slot.  Here is the link, directly from the Dell website:

  • This hard drive is compatible with my laptop? Apple 80 GB HDD 3.5 SATA for my Compaq CQ62, the hard drive that I have for that one is a "WD 500 GB 2.5 SATA II.

I plan to buy an Apple 80 GB hard disk 3.5 SATA for my Compaq CQ62, the hard drive that I have for you is a "WD 500 GB 2.5 SATA II.

Ports appear as it will keep and everything, but I'm curious to know, if I get this drive, I'll be able to install my Macintosh on that hard drive and use it on my laptop Compaq CQ62 or not?
If this isn't the case, then I'll be able to install Windows 7 or uBuntu on this hard drive? The hard drive will fit even on my laptop? Thank you!

Why you want to replace a 500 GB with a 80 GB drive it?

Macintosh is not an operating system

A 80 GB drive is too small for a win7 PC

  • Add the second hard drive in the Dell Optiplex 780 SFF

    Hello

I have dell Optiplex 780 SFF (Small Form Factor) PC. It has 3 options of SATA. I want to add 2nd hard drive in it, but I see no power for 2 hard drive cable.

At the present time, I have a SATA Hard Drive and a SATA Super Combo. But the power cable from the SATA Super combo is very unique, I can not able to give the power of this cable to my 2nd hard drive.

Is it possible to add 2 hard disk in the PC case?

    Best regards

    Dani

    Hi Dani,

The SFF is using a drive slim lens that does not have a standard SATA power connection. You will need to buy an adapter or a SATA power cable splitter to power a second hard drive.

  • 2nd disk on Dell OptiPlex 780 Mini-Tower

I want to install a 2nd SATA Seagate 148 gb SATA HDD on my OptiPlex 780 minitower. The drive is physically mounted in the machine and the power cable that extends from the disk HARD existing fits perfectly in place. I had to go buy a 18 "SATA 7 pin data Cable available from the drive to the motherboard.

Looks like there are two SATA containers-by-side in the middle section of the motherboard. A feed beige plastic and the other in black.

Does make a difference that the one that I use?

Is there another container, should I use instead of these?  Locate where?

After hanging hardware, what I need to do to get the machine to recognize the new HARD drive when booting?

    Thank you

The colors are to let you know which port is 0 then 1 then 2, then 3, etc. White port is #3 the orange cable goes from the optical drive sata 1 connector blue is the boot disk which is SATA 0. After connecting the power supply and data, you go into BIOS Setup and turn on SATA2.

  • WIN8 drivers for Optiplex 745, 755, 760, 780

    Hello

I'm looking for drivers for Windows 8 for Optiplex 745, 755, 760, 780. Only Win7 drivers are listed in the driver download section... :( I need drivers of Win8 to WinPE4/deployment/imaging services.

    -Sean

In most cases, Windows 8 will have all the necessary drivers.  Are there drivers in particular you need or you have problems with?

  • Install a second hard drive on Optiplex 780 Mini-Tower

I recently bought an Optiplex 780 minitower with Windows 7 DellRefurbished.com and I am happy with the machine. I would now like to add a second SATA hard drive that I bought, for which a power connector is available in the machine (the current hard drive is 250G and so is the other, I want to install.)

However, the two ports of SATA cable on the motherboard are used, one for the existing drive and one for the CD - DVD drive. I understand that there may be a separator for a SATA data cable (as there were once two connections on some slick IDE cables).

According to Belarc Advisor, the jury is Dell 0C27VV A03. Is it possible to install a second hard drive using a USB-to-SATA cable to the CD - DVD drive or the second hard drive? If so, set up a card with an internal USB connection USB PCI adapter? (I have more open slots). Or is there already a USB connection on the motherboard?

Any advice, including suggestions on the parts that I need to get, are appreciated. I see that I can buy a USB-to-SATA cable that has two USB connectors and two sets of pins of connection to the hard drive. I assume that one of the USB connections is for power to the player. I wouldn't need, because the connection of the power supply is already here and elsewhere I wonder if I can get two the casing with a PCI card USB connections. Is there a USB-to-SATA cable with only the connection of data on the disk?

The Manual explains the minitower 780 has 4 ports SATA motherboard and 2 interns, so you drive bays devriez have a place to plug in a second hard drive. (The desktop systems and small form factor 780 have 3 SATA ports). Unfortunately, the manual has a diagram of motherboard layout, so I don't know where the 2 other ports would be.

The motherboard is compatible SATA1a and SATA2. A SATA3 drive must be retro-compatible with a SATA2 motherboard, but won't work on SATA2 data transfer speed. So the price of a SATA2 drive vs a SATA3 drive and the potential future use could be considerations.

If you think that you will - eventually - upgrading to a new PC with a card mother SATA3, the new system would be able to handle the maximum speed of a SATA3 drive, but only works at speed SATA2 with a SATA2 drive.

You will need to buy a data cable SATA for your new hard drive, but it's only a little extra money...

If the manual is not correct (?) on the number of ports SATA on the motherboard, the system is supposed to have an on the rear panel eSATA port, so you can connect a player external eSATA HARD drive as an alternative.

  • New RAM PC3-8500 does not not in Optiplex 780 SFF

I just bought a pair of 4 GB sticks (F3-8500CL7D-8GBRL) for my Dell Optiplex 780 SFF.

The manual says it uses DD3-1066, up to 16 GB of 4 connectors.

During installation and when fired upwards, there is only a sound signal and the diagnostic Dell 1 & 3 lights that indicate: "memory modules are detected, but memory configuration or compatibility error has occurred"
I tried each module individually in each of the 4 slots (so 8 tries), then the pair 1-3 and 2-4 (more than 2 tests).  No joy.
When I go back to the original PC3-10600 memory (1 GB + 2 GB) everything works fine.
I'm on the last BIOS A15. Everyone sees why this RAM will not be happy about this MB...?

In fact, I managed to add 8 GB to stock / 3GB, so I'm humming 11FR now. The memory that has worked has been Crucial CT2367692. I had to return the other stuff NewEgg taking a shipping and restocking fees kick.

Lesson learned... I'm always going to Crucial now... obviously, you tell them what machine you have, they guarantee what will work the RAM.
