Add new storage - Disk Performance issue

If I have a Raid 5 array in my R710 and want to add an additional drive that is not part of this raid, which will force the Raid 5 array running at the speed of the new command - aka the smallest common denominator.

Sorry... I misread your post... you want to add a disk that is NOT part of the RAID 5.  I guess that I am confused by the question about if it would slow down the RAID 5 to the new speed of the drive, to which the answer would be no.  You can add a disk without being part of the RAID 5, but if you use a PERC H700, so you can add disk... Although it doesn't have to be part of your RAID 5 existing or in a RAID 5 clean, because PERC does not support not RAID, it MUST be configured in the Bay of SOME RAID... by himself It would be a single drive RAID 0.  It will operate at the speed, he is capable, and RAID 5 will operate at the speed, it is capable of... If you copy the RAID 5 for the single drive RAID 0, RAID 5 write speed will be limited to the speed of transfer and the write speed of the single disc (obviously an SSD would be faster).

    Question:

I set up MSCS SQL 2000 with RDM through host, MSCS failover without problem, performance wise is not a problem at all too. But the problem is that if the MSCS SQL resource is managed by the Active virtual machine that is running on host1, I can navigate to storage / adding LUNs, set in shape of new LUN with no problems.

If I want to add new storage on the other host "host2" I received the error "Tor time to ask"is it because of the resource ROW being busy serving the machine virtual active it is why the host not allowing do not change with the addition of new storage?

But if I take these "RDM LUN" LUNS in host2, host3 and host4. I can do a rescan, adding other LUNS as the RDM presented to the virtual machine, able to see the add storage wizard.

I had similar questions to those two problems here where I couldn't add a data store as he would expire and I got the long startup time. I also use RDM which I use for MSCS in the whole of boxes 2. Here's a quote from my previous post in which I found a response that helped me. Changingthe SCSI retry time increased my boot time and allowed me to add one more time without the question of the time-out, data warehouses.

    Response to previous Post:

I did some research and I think I've made some progress. I found that I get lots of SCSI errors in the VMkernel newspaper. I did some more research and found out that I can change the time retrying SCSI 80 to 10 and it has done wonders for my time to reboot. Now, instead of taking 20 minutes to start, it takes less than 5 minutes now. Much better. I made the change in the host-> advance-> SCSI--> SCSI configuration try again. 80 a the default and 10A was suggested as being a good value. It helped and I will keep an eye on what can make the effect, but so far it has helped with startup times.

  • HP 14-r025tx: what is the maximum size of hard drive I can replace my default one? & other hard disk performance issue

My default hard disk is almost full and I plan to update. What is the maximum size that this model could overcome? Very well is 2-3 to?

    Another question.

I replaced my optical drive to a box with a 250 GB SSD HARD drive inside. I installed my new operating system here, and makes the default boot drive. The default value of HARD drive that comes with the laptop is my backup drive. This is configured by okay?

    or

Do I have to put my SSD on the default HARD drive space and put my 2 to/3 TB harddrive on the caddy for maximum performance?

    Hello

    1. in theory, you can get 2 TB or TB but 1 TB has better peformance.

    2. you cannot boot from the caddy. My suggestion: use for normal Bay and 2 TB SSDS in the caddy. You both what you want.

    3. as (2) above.

    Kind regards.

  • Version 6 of the Java performance issues

It's kind of a continuation of the following thread:

    Performance of Java 1.6

The question of the moose in the previous thread is not the issue. This is what came in the thread on the performace of Java 6 which I want to talk.

My question is, is there anything new about the performance issues associated with Discoverer Plus and Java version 6? In my office (and others will benefit from its interventions to the referenced thread), we have problems of considerable achievements with Discoverer Plus (web version) with a PC with Java 6 on them. Some symptoms are: no no not able ge before the login screen, severe downturn PC or PC locked alltogether. To work around these problems, we were push PCs to Java version 1.4.2. Do the restore immediately takes care of the problems of slowness, lock up or connection problems. However, some of our applications in our office now requires Java Version 6. People who need new applications cannot use great Discoverer, because their Java version (Java 6), causes the discoverer to bog down.

Is there a longer version and Java which took in charge the performance issues with the discoverer? Or maybe a patch. Our technicians helpdesk said that some versions of Java 6 had some security issues to consider. But as Java 6: update 11 had taken care of its security concerns. Update of Java 6 11 supported performance issues? Y at - it a patch for this version that made?

    Thank you

    Hello
Certainly there is a performance issue if you have Java 1.4 on the server and Java 1.6 on the workstation. I hope you have discoverer 10.1.2.2, 10.1.2.3 with CP1, 2, or 4 or less CP6, you need to update Java on your server to equalize it with the version on your workstations. Some will say that older versions of 10.1.2.2 ok to upgrade Java on but I'm not sure.

I recently mafe announcement on my blog which may help: http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com/2009/04/be-careful-when-upgrading-to-java-16.html

You will also find interesting information in this note on MetaLink: 728452.1

Also, once you have upgraded your Java Server I recommend clearing the cache of Java on stations of local work and using Add/Remove programs to remove all older versions. Some people go as far as the removal of all versions of local Java that allows the server to discoverer of re - install the required version.

  • Add a new virtual disk to a very critical existing VM

    Hi all,

My question is very simple. I have to add a new virtual disk to an existing Windows Server 2008 Standard virtual machine (we use vSphere 5). This machine

is very critical, because it is the server of the company files. Is there a risk to add the new virtual disk on the virtual computer? Is it better to add it with the virtual machine died, or can I also in the virtual machine running without risk? I tried with a virtual test machine and everything works fine and I know to be very paranoid, but in this moment I still feel a great responsibility on me.

    Thank you all.

There is nothing wrong by adding a disk to a virtual machine, it is HOT add, that is the advantage of the SCSI layer. VMDK all use a virtual scsi controller and it is hot add capable. SO just, add it and partition.

  • Help!  How to add a new 350GB disk?

    Hi all

I was tasked with the addition of an extra 350GB disk to a virtual machine in a configuration, I discovered it's done not as easily in Lab Manager as it is in vCenter.  I cancelled the Setup and when I go into the properties of the VM I see 'add the HDD', but when I go to add the new drive with the size you want it only allows me to add a maximum of 167 GB (the remaining space on the LUN that VM is enabled) as expected.  I have a new 550 GB LUN I want to create this new drive 350GB, but I do not get a choice where to create the new disk.  Can someone help me please this seemingly simple task?  Thank you

BTW - I use Lab Manager 3.0 (2) on ESX 3.5 HP blades

If you add a new HARD disk in your virtual machine in the Lab Manager the disc is placed in the root directory of die VM.

  • Migration to new storage ASM

Oracle 11G R2 RAC with ASM on Solaris 10

Just do my due diligence to prepare material migration of storage of StorageTek (RAID 5) for NetApp (RAID 6) with more space

Anyone has any experience of migration to new hardware for storage with different RAID types when you use ASM? I guess there is no problem of hardware compatibility. Is it possible to connect the new storage to the servers and create new ASM disks groups, move data to the new disk groups files and then remove the old storage? Or should I take a RMAN backup and then restore it on the new storage?

Yes, but remember that you don't want to leave all as unpaired LUN in the same diskgroup permanently, as ASM blindly assumes that all LUNS have the same capabilities and balances Allocation units (AUs) is based on this assumption.

If you break rebalance ASM, add a lot of new LUNS in an existing diskgroup and mark all old LUNS to fall once evacuated, then resume the rebalancing, the end result will be all new LUNS that are all also hitched. Just by adding a few new LUNS leaving some old would produce suboptimal performance.

If you go to the approach of separate ASM diskgroup, you have the luxury to migrate your files (if desired) iteratively given ASM manages two independent disk groups.

Don't forget to assign points if you find my answers to be useful and accurate.

    Thank you very much

  • Or ASM, raw devices, and performance issues

    Hello

I was recently become familiar with ASM. Because I did that in 'play' VM boxes, it was not possible to draw conclusions on performance improvements.

I would like to know what improvements performance forum members may have experienced after the migration of a production environment to a no - ASM to ASM configuration installation.

It would seem that, since the DSO is a 'form' of crude device that the increase in performance should be noticeable. Was this the case for those who have emigrated to it? It was improving the performance or it only to facilitate the management of the database easier?

Thank you for your contributions on the subject,

    John.

John, to add to what Aman said rebalancing.

Imagine the following scenario. New storage array must replace the old. You must move the entire database across from the old to the new. The existing storage array may have 20 x 128 GB lun. The new table will provide you with 5 x 1 TB lun.

How do you do that without a single second of downtime? You use ASM.

You will have an existing diskgroup of 20 aircraft. ASM, you draw these of being abandoned. Also using ASM, you add 5 new devices to this same diskgroup. Then, you issue a command of the ASM rebalancing. Close the session. And have a good night sleep from the operational database.

The next morning that all data on the LUN 20 should have been distributed on the 5 new LUNS and the 20 released MON - ready to be physically removed and reused elsewhere. (you can set the "aggression" of the rebalancing operation - will be the more aggressive, more resources i/O that it will consume and faster the process of rebalancing).

And even better - not a single second of downtime for maintenance. Compare this with the help of a storage provider (EMC comes to mind) and have to do this exercise using their s/w and the approach and the ASM not... No comparison at all. ASM is vastly superior in this regard, because it is specifically designed for the storage management problems we have to solve with an Oracle database.

  • Z220 CMT: firmware Win 8 factory 7 and install new boot disks (RAID 1)

My Z220 came with the copy of Win 7 Pro/64-bit factory-loaded, lowered to win 8. The supplied HD is just a Seagate 500 MB to 6 MB/s SATA drive.

I want to change my boot disks for a pair of WD series RE 1 TB disks in a RAID1 configuration.

The 220 came with a series of restore disks: disks of recovery system 1,2 and 3 for Win 7 and a DVD of recovery Driver for WIn7 and WIn8, as long as the DVD of the operating system - Windows 8 Pro.

So, if I install the pair of RAID array using the Intel RAID software, can I then use CD Win7 game to restore the Win7 system to the new RAID array? Is there a potential problem of activation here?

My other idea was to use Clonezilla to clone the current Win7 system on the RAID array, but I don't know if it will work, as the discs in question are not the same...

If you look at your partitions on the disk HP of the computer/manage/storage/disk management you should see a hidden partition which you can draw the active OS itself and also to make an installation USB or CD/DVD set.  But you already have those in hand, I believe.

The restore thing can be confusing.  What I would do, is get a stunt or set of disks drive and start experimenting.  One of the disks is an "Activator" disc which you start with, and it gives you instructions as you go along with a clean installation, including installation RAID or simple installation on hard/SSD options.  Just keep your 500 GB out of the workstation and work with the readers of stunt.  For those, I liked the 80 GB WD Velociraptors... two correspondent off eBay are cheap, and they are quick to reformat/load/erase.  It will start to make sense fairly quickly.  For RAID works, you can experiment on 2 160 GB drives, but a full install of W7 with Office 2007 is less than 45 GB.  You just start from this first optical disc and start digging.

The thing about the COA... When you perform a clean discs HP restore, as if your HP hard drive has failed, the process puts on a HP OEM COA serial number that is different from what is on your COA sticker.  For example, you can clone a facility and it will work on an another Z220 CMT without activation.  It checks only the BIOS of the workstation to make sure that it is a legal installation.  If you try the same thing with a W7Pro64 OEM System Builder build the clone will work but will recognize that this isn't the same job that it has been installed on original and you give a few days to feed another series of COA number.

A clone must come from the installation of restore HP OEM with the internal controls of HP and OEM HP serial number to make it work on another box without activation problems.  Stick to right side of things and you'll be fine.

  • How to create the new storage pool?

    Hello.
I am running windows 8 and I wanted to create a new storage pool for my personal files. but how?

I have only 500 GB of storage.

    current storage pools:

    OS (C :) - 460 + GB)

    Lenovo (d) - 20 + GB

    Thank you!

    Hi Jerome,

Yes, the statement means that you can use an external drive such as a hard drive or a USB drive as a storage drive. What you need to do is plug in the hard drive, go to start screen, type storage, click on manage storage. Click on create a new pool and storage space , and then follow the instructions on the screen (as shown on the link provided on the previous answer).

Alternatively, you can also create a new partition of the hard disk volume. You mentioned that the operating system drive is 460 GB and drive "D" takes 20 GB (or more). What we can do is to create a new simple volume on the unallocated disk. If there is a disk unallocated space, we will create a new disk by taking the amount of disk space required on the unallocated disk space, and then use the new disk in what concerns your personal files.

First of all, check if there is a disk not allocated/available in disk management. Follow these steps:

    • Press Windows + X , and then select Disk Management.
    • Check if there is a disk unallocated with readers. If you do not have a disk unallocated, then right-click on the drive (the operating system or drive "D") and select Volume Shrink.
    • Now, you'll find a disk unallocated in the lists. Click on a region unallocated hard disk, and then click New Simple Volume.
    • In the New Simple Volume Wizard, click Next.

    • Type the size of the volume you want to create in megabytes (MB) or accept the maximum default size, and then click Next.

    • Accept the default drive letter or choose a different drive letter to identify the partition, and then click on Next.

    • In the dialog box Formater Partition to format the volume with the default settings, click Next.

    • Review your choices and then click Finish.

    • Now a new drive will be created and it will be displayed in the file Explorer.

Check if it solves the problem.
