  • Add a new virtual disk to a very critical existing VM

    Hi all,

    My question is very simple. I have to add a new virtual disk to an existing Windows Server 2008 Standard virtual machine (we use vSphere 5). This machine

    is very critical, because it is the server of the company files. Is there a risk to add the new virtual disk on the virtual computer? Is it better to add it with the virtual machine died, or can I also in the virtual machine running without risk? I tried with a virtual test machine and everything works fine and I know to be very paranoid, but in this moment I still feel a great responsibility on me.

    Thank you all.

    There is nothing wrong by adding a disk to a virtual machine, it is HOT add, that is the advantage of the SCSI layer. VMDK all use a virtual scsi controller and it is hot add capable. SO just, add it and partition.

  • Add the second virtual disk at Vm

    Hey guys,.

    I just loaded ESXi 4 on a server and I created 2 virtual machines and I went to add a second drive to a virtual machine and it gave me an error message stating "there are not enough licenses to complete this operation. "Feature hotplug not approved, requires have have.

    Has anyone ever seen this error before?

    Thank you!

    You must now close comments to add an additional drive.

  • cannot add the new hard drive more than 2 TB on vsphere upgrade 5

    can someone give me a clue? I can't add new greater than 2 TB drive to my vm on my upgraded vsphere 5.0. My data store is 6 TB and already read by vsphere... I create new virtual machine and add the new drive, but it limits again just 2 TB when I change 4 TB, the error message will appear. I recently added my datastore LUN with VMFS5 version. is there a any mistake I made? Please help me this problem is so frustrating me... i need to create new disk 6 TB to my new file server

    Hello.

    You will need to use a RDM in physical Compatibility Mode to achieve. As weinstein5 said, a VMDK cannot be greater than 2-to-512bytes. You can use the OS to spread over several 2 TB-512bytes VMDK, if that's what you really want.

    Good luck!

    Abrams,

    That's all I can help you.  These instructions are based on the Perc 5 / i controller, which I think you have on our system.  You have not specified the server so I just assumed that this is so.

    1. unscrew the hot spare that you just made.  Follow this link from Dell.
    http://support.Dell.com/support/eDOCS/storage/RAID/PERC5/en/UG/HTML/chapterh.htm#wp1061343

    2 follow the link for the installation of virtual disks - http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/RAID/PERC5/en/UG/HTML/chapterh.htm#wp1069357

    This link has three steps to void, skip the step on "spare parts of designate hot."
    a. create the virtual disks and select virtual disk options.   -Online steps to create another disk group and add the new disk to the disk group.
    (b) designate the drives hot spares (optional). =>, YOU CAN SKIP THIS STEP
    c. initialize virtual disks. -online must do.  just do not initialize the incorrect disk.

    After the step #2 c, you should be able to access the drive in ESXi or command-line (list of nmp esxcli devices).

    And no, you cannot add this manaully until do you step #2 above which is to define the disk group, creating virtual disks and initialize the virtual disk.

    Good luck.

  • Defining the new Virtual Machine

    When you set the new Virtual Machine, what is the size of the virtual disk to specify? (Default value is 8GB) Should we check "Allocate all disk space now" option?

    No, this hard disk space actually leaves your portable office/computer hard drive free space.

    Look at your free space of the desktop and then add a new hard drive with 30 concerts or more.   Check again, and note that this space has disappeared.   Then you can just delete it and it comes back.

    Yes, just use the ' Add ' button.

    If you find this information useful, please give points of

    'correctness '.

    or "useful."

  • Help!  How to add a new 350GB disk?

    Hi all

    I was tasked with the addition of an extra 350GB disk to a virtual machine in a configuration, I discovered it's done not as easily in Lab Manager as it is in vCenter.  I cancelled the Setup and when I go into the properties of the VM I see 'add the HDD', but when I go to add the new drive with the size you want it only allows me to add a maximum of 167 GB (the remaining space on the LUN that VM is enabled) as expected.  I have a new 550 GB LUN I want to create this new drive 350GB, but I do not get a choice where to create the new disk.  Can someone help me please this seemingly simple task?  Thank you

    BTW - I use Lab Manager 3.0 (2) on ESX 3.5 HP blades

    If you add a new HARD disk in your virtual machine in the Lab Manager the disc is placed in the root directory of die VM.

  • Add to that a drive to RAID5 ESX didn't add the new space?

    I need more space for the ESX Server so I add 4th same drive size to existing RAID5, I had 3 discs 264.50 I now see in open manage once I add the 4th car total 408 GB is 260 something in ESX under storage always fresh watch 46 GB 264.50 GB of space even old information and restarted ESX even question? How can I add the new space of ESX?

    Thank you

    Always backup your virtual machines if you are not sure

    For me, because I am familiar with the disk partitioning, I would just to repartition the disk.  Depends on your comfort level.  method 1 is the "safest".

  • Expanded the bad virtual disk but not Guest OS - Shrink?

    Not quite another question generic "shrink the VMDK.

    I accidentally spread the bad virtual disk in vCenter 725 GB to 1 TB. Fortunately, I realized that until I expanded the partition to use the new space in Windows. Is it possible to reclaim that space? In the virtual machine settings, I have the options of arrow to "reduce" the size down, but I'm not sure on the impact at the prompt to do. Certainly if the guest has not been extended to consume this space then it should be recoverable?

    as you're talking about: the option arrow in the virtual machine settings

    This does not leave you reduce (Shrink) the size of the virtual disk, which has already been strengthened. This option is useful in the case when we say you went into settings of the virtual machine, the disk size increased from 10 to 20 GB, but not yet committed that change and you want to return to 15 you can then use this arrow to do.

    Please visit following KB, is the answer to your question, use VMware converter.

    VMware KB: Increasingly, the thinning and shrinking of the virtual disks for VMware ESX and ESXi

  • . ISO is grayed out when you try to make the new Virtual Machine

    I recently downloaded fusion VM 5 and I am trying to make a virtual machine for windows 7 without using a disc. I use an .iso file that is saved on my mac. When I'm in the new virtual machine Wizard and go click win7.iso I can't because the text and thumbnail are grayed out and won't do anything. Help, please.

    The page you are showing has noting to do with the installation of an ISO Image, it takes to with the virtual hard disk.  The ISO Image is assigned to the CD/DVD in the settings of the Virtual Machine if you don't select it in the wizard at the beginning.

  • How to add a new virtual machine in VMPlayer inventory?

    People,

    Hello. I'm installing Oracle Database 11 g 2 RAC system using 2 nodes that are 2 Virtual Machines on top 3 VMPlayer.

    Their locations are C:\VM_RAC\rac1 and C:\VM_RAC\rac2.

    The original rac1 VM is created in VMPlayer 3 and works correctly.

    For the second rac2 VM, I simply copy all the files in the folder rac1 in rac2 folder. Then change its display name of "rac1' to 'rac2' in the rac2 configuration file.

    But rac2 in not visible in VMPlayer and cannot be turned on.

    To make rac2 in VMPlayer, we add rac2 in VMPlayer inventory. But I don't understand how to do it.

    Can any folk tell me how to add the new VM rac2 VMPlayer stock, so that it can be powered on?

    In the 'File' menu click 'Open Virtual Machine... "and select the .vmx file in the folder of the virtual machine.

  • Suggestion on Vcenter DB migration on the new virtual machine and enhancement vcenter server

    Hello

    I'm looking for any suggestion/plan with Vcenter DB migration steps towards the new virtual machine, and then upgrade the server vcenter

    4.1 for Update1/2

    My plan will be

    (1) creating new virtual machine.

    (2) fresh install 64-bit OS

    (3) migration Vcenter DB of the physical server to the new virtual machine.

    (4) upgrade to Vcenter Server 4.1 update 41 4.1 Update1/2

    Anything else missing then please let me know.

    Thank you

    vmguy

    Hi vmguy

    I agree with this approach

    (3) migration Vcenter DB of the physical server to the new virtual machine.

    As long as you leave the old DB in tact and simply detach and copy the DB to the new Victoria Cross.

    Before you run the upgrade on the new VC and DB.

    This way, you have a restoration plan in case something goes wrong with the upgrade.

    Just to add:

    You must migrate the ADAM database so to maintain the specified permissions vCenter

    See: Migrateing vCenter new host

    Please allow points if you find this useful/correct

  • Create the new virtual machine using Java API vCloud

    Hi guys,.

    I am trying to create the new virtual machine in TIME, but I've stuck here. The API I'm using is vcloud-java-sdk - 1.0.jar.

    Could you please show me a code snippet how to do this?

    For now I do it like this:

    RecomposeVAppParamsType recomposeVAppParamsType = new RecomposeVAppParamsType();

    List the items < CompositionItemParamType > = recomposeVAppParamsType.getItem ();
    ReferenceType vappTemplateVMRef = new ReferenceType();

    // ??? seems that new reference to the new virtual machine should be here. But how to create this VM
    CompositionItemParamType compositionItemParamType = new CompositionItemParamType();
    compositionItemParamType.setSource (vappTemplateVMRef);

    Items.Add (compositionItemParamType);
    ReferenceType vAppRef is Vdc.getVdcByReference (vcloudClient, vdcRef) .getVappRefByName ("vApp_Websrv");.

    Vapp.getVappByReference (vcloudClient, vAppRef) .recomposeVapp (recomposeVAppParamsType);

    One day before I played with Web Services SDK, which is much easier to understand. I was able to create the vApp and VMs in vSphere. Is it possible to import machines virtual vSphere to vCloud? Should what API I use for this?

    Thank you

    Hello

    You cannot add a new empty virtual machine in a paralytic.

    Instead, you can add a virtual machine from an existing vapp, vapptemplate.

    To import a vsphere vm to vcloud.

    Import vsphere vm as VAPP in vcloud. VMWVimserver-> importVmAsVApp()

    The importation of vsphere vm, as vAppTemplate, in vcloud. VMWVimserver-> importVmAsVAppTemplate()

    See also the example of ImportVmAsvAppTemplate.java, which is part of the vcloudjavasdk group.

    Kind regards

    Rajesh Kamal.

  • Reason: The specified virtual disk must be repaired. Running on MAC

    I NEED HELP.

    I'm new to mac and am a nood. I am running the latest version of vmware fusion, os and windows 7.

    So my computer crashed and I had to force stop. VMware was running in time with windows 7, now when I try to run windows 7 I get this:

    Cannot open disk ' / users/user/Documents/Virtual name Machines.localized / 7.vmwarevm/Windows 7.vmdk Windows' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

    Reason: The specified virtual disk must be repaired.

    I went online and tried the two ways that forms said to fix, went to the Terminal and tried to fix the vmdk but kept getting the disk must be mounted?, so I tried to use an older version of vmwares support program and that has not worked.

    So I eaither need to know how to fix the vmdk or it go to mount so I don't understand this error, or if there is a way to trasfer my programs which crashed windows to other windows I installed it, (Aso 7)

    the path that you used seems to be badly formatted - use quotation marks around the file names with spaces and do not mix slashes to backslashes

    don't know - this forum software does not display paths well so you can have it is just - just new doublecheck
